ABD - Ireland 2013 - Parts 1 - 10

What did you ink about the hotel in Kilarney? How about the hotel in Dublin?

Darby O'Gill... What a great live action Disney Movie!

The hotel in Kilarney was probably our favorite of the whole trip.

The Dublin hotel was excellent as well. Centrally located and great rooms.

The guides told us that they had recently changed to those two hotels and they were much better than the ones they previously used. That's Disney for you, always plussing! :thumbsup2

When you don't have to worry about parking and transportation being right in the middle of things is the best.

It sounds like you learned a lot about Irish history before your adventure even began!

What is included in a "full Irish breakfast?"

It sounds like you had a lot of fun with the song of the drunken sailor!

One of the things I love most about ABD trips is all the pictures they take. We have so many shots with all four of us.

Day 8 (Tuesday July 30, 2013)

DD & DS said that it was the best vacation ever except when we’ve visited the Disney parks.
:wave2:

Awww, so nice to hear that from teenagers.

Thanks for writing the trip report and sharing your adventure with us!

Thanks Sayhello. I edited the post. Since I'm a new poster, I wasn't able to include URL's until I had 10 posts. The Ireland Trip had 10 parts, so now I can add a real URL.
Oh, I should have noticed that about the post count! Thanks for editing that!

Sayhello

I'm doing this trip in July next year. When does the book of Kelis thing end, approximately? Would like to know for planning purposes.

To Rapunzellover,

The Book of Kells display will go on till time runs out.

( It is there to view by everyone )

The last time I saw it was about 50 years ago so it is about time I took the train

from Cork , to see it again.

It's actually listed as an "optional" activity, but I think everybody in our group participated. It's near the hotel, so we just walked over. One of the guides bought the tickets, passed them out, and from that point on we were basically on our own. So you can stay as little or as long as you want. We went through the exhibit and the library and then walked around the campus a bit. I don't remember exactly, but I think we were done between 3:00 and 4:00. I know we had time for dinner, before we went to Gogarty's for the musical pub crawl that started at 7:30.

Yes you now clear Customs & Immigration at Both Shannon & Dublin

You arrive in USA as Domestic Passengers.

This is a great advantage for us flying into Orlando

Yes, I really recommend the Newgrange Tour.

Full Irish Breakfast = eggs, meat (i.e. bacon, ham, etc.), pancakes, cereal, fruit, beverages, etc. Anything you find on breakfast menu in the U.S.

Too bad about the book of Kells. You'd think they'd always have it opened to one of the illustrated gospel author pages. It's not like anyone is coming every day to actually read it cover to cover.

Was the Pub Crawl something you arranged on your own? How did you decide where to go?

Yes, I understand that they are trying to protect the book, but maybe they could just skip over the less interesting pages. I'm sure there would be somebody who would be unhappy with that solution too. It was still interesting and the library is beautiful, but it was also crowded. If you're really interested it might be worth it to look around the campus first and then enter the exhibit after the ABD group has moved on.

We did the pub crawl on the free evening in Dublin on Day 2. Somebody on this board had mentioned going to Gogarty's for lunch. So I checked out their website and noticed the info for the musical pub crawl. You meet upstairs at Gogarty's and then the musicians lead you on a walking tour to 3 others pubs (I think these may vary). We really enjoyed it. It's probably best for adults and teens, or maybe kids a little younger, if they are interested in music. There are some sing-a-longs and you'll have an opportunity to perform a solo, if you're so inclined. A couple of brave folks in our group did.

Enjoyed your trip report on the Ireland ABD. :) The Tara and New Grange tour sound fascinating and I'm going to look into booking it before our Tauck Bridges Ireland tour in June.
