ABD Backstage Magic 7/31 - 8/5/11

I have never been so scared in my life. I think we all probably went into shock for a bit immediately after it happened. Its over 24 hours ago now so the aftershocks have eased up and aren't so frequent.

We had a lot of aftershocks during the night including a couple last evening which were 3.8 and 4.3 on the scale. We did manage to get a little sleep. Its definitely easier to cope in daylight, there is something unnerving about darkness and the thought that another could hit at any time (and will hit sooner or later - the media is always quick to say it wasn't the big one they expected).

To top it off, we have gale force winds today so damaged buildings may get another battering. Parts of the city/suburbs have been destroyed and I'm sure most of you will have seen it on the news.
It was a 7.1 on the richter scale which is the same as what hit Haiti and killed 200,000+ people - how no one died here is beyond comprehension. Someone died from a heart attack and two people are in a serious condition in hospital.

We are very fortunate.

Wow! Sorry you had to go through all of that! Our prayers are with you, your family & friends!!

Hugs, friend. Know we are sending good thoughts your way from all over the world. :goodvibes

I really hope the weather improves and the aftershocks stop very soon. It's miraculous that there have been so few injuries and no deaths directly from the major earthquake. So glad that you and your family are okay after all of that.

Paula, we hope everything works out for you and your family! We're wishing for lots of pixie dust and magic to keep coming your way!:goodvibes

Danika, :welcome: to the boards! ABD Backstage Magic is the GREATEST Disney experience there is!!

Just watched Funniest Homes Videos '20 Home Videos That Changed the World' with the DH...winner gets a Dis Cruise for 4. But the whole show was done on board a Disney Caribbean Cruise! Looks great and so much fun! party:

We saw that show too! It was a nice preview for our upcoming Dream cruise, even though on a different ship and some other differences... It looked like a massive amount of fun!

Ok Ya'll... Only 328 days until our trip!!!! Woo Hoo! Happy Monday Everyone! :cheer2:

I read the article about Imagineering in my D23 magazine last night and am even more excited to go on our ABD trip and meet Marty Sklar. I really liked, albeit limited, the hearing about future projects espcially for the Dream. I could spend weeks looking at blue prints, concept art, and drawings of the parks and attractions stored there. Plus can you imagine all the cool stuff in the Archives! In the article, it said something along the lines of the Disney parks are not museums. Which some days is really tough because I would love to see Horizons come back, but yet we wouldn't have Mission Space. Maybe bad example, but refurbs to Pirates and Haunted Mansion where done well. I'm just saying it's hard as a fan to embrace new attractions when sometimes it means some favorites must go.

I know what you mean! It's true that Disneyland and WDW aren't museums. Walt envisioned his park as something that would never be completed. The problem comes when they replace an attraction with one that just isn't as good. (For me, Stitch's Great Escape come to mind.) Or when they take an element out of an attraction, but they don't add something of equal quality. Change can be good if it's done with care!
