ABCs of Disney Swap ~ Voting ~ Decision on Page 3

ok, I get it! (For some reason, I was just thinking it would be just based on the letter, with random Disney embellishments, so that we could use the letter for whatever we want...I must have missed the part about the topic!! oops!) :teeth: So, if we have, let's say, Aladdin, will all of the embellishments be Aladdin too, or do they just have to coordinate with the topper? Thanks!

Typically, embellishments on your elements kind of correspond with your theme. So, for Aladdin, if you were doing your topper and a frame, you might have a lamp sticker on the frame or something else that is Aladdin-y. :teeth:

Disneyland_Emily has kindly posted previous swaps at this LINK. The pictures might do a better job of answering your question. Let me know if I can provide any other info.

Established Details:
Sign-up Start: August 15 - Choose your letter(s) and vote on a category for each letter
Swap Start: September 1 - Tally all votes for categories and begin swap.
Due Date: November 1 - I will wait one week for stragglers and then will send items.

This is from the first post. So on August 15th everyone who wants to sign up picks their letter they want to do. Between August 15th to September 1st we will vote on what category we want each letter to be as a group. So for the letter "B" if the majority of the group wants Bambi, that is what the letter B will be.

I think the point is for each item not for multiples of the item. As for why the embellished square is only .5, I think this is because .5 is for one square if you make 4 that would equal your 2 points. If you make one tag it is 1 point, if you make two that is 2 points. Most swaps I have participated in used 4 embellished squares or two tags.

From what it sounds like each person has to make 2 points worth of objects whether you maker shaker box, which is listed at 2 points or 4 embellished squares each square is .5 of a point. You must come up with 2 points whether it is one object or a combination of multiple objects. If this is not how it works, will someone please explain the points otherwise. TIA

Becky

Nicurn - Honestly, the point system is the way it is because I stole it from someone else. :teeth: I will try to explain why she set it up that way but I'm not sure if I'll make sense or if I even have it right. :) Anyway, it was my understanding that the person who created the system based it upon the usual sign-ups with the categories, i.e.:

Group A
1 Topper (no more than 8.5", no handwriting please)
2 Borders (2 vertical, 11" in length)
2 Journal Boxes (double matted) 2 per person, at least a 2x2 writing area
4 Embellished squares (double-matted) 4 per person
1 Matted Poem or song Lyric (double matted/embellished) at least 4x4 space (no handwriting please)
1 paper piecing
1 Shaker Box
2 Frames (embellished)
2 Photo Mats (double-matted and embellished)
2 Tags (double-matted, embellished and must contain eyelets/fibers in holes)
1 Box 'n Tag (1 of each- Above rules apply)
Eyelets/brads AND fiber/ribbon (6 per person AND 1 yd)

Group B
1 Topper (no more than 8.5", no handwriting please)
2 Borders (2 vertical, 11" in length)
2 Journal Boxes (double matted) 2 per person, at least a 2x2 writing area
4 Embellished squares (double-matted) 4 per person
1 Matted Poem or song Lyric (double matted/embellished) at least 4x4 space (no handwriting please)
1 paper piecing
1 Shaker Box
2 Frames (embellished)
2 Photo Mats (double-matted and embellished)
2 Tags (double-matted, embellished and must contain eyelets/fibers in holes)
1 Box 'n Tag (1 of each- Above rules apply)
Eyelets/brads AND fiber/ribbon (6 per person AND 1 yd)

In the ABCs of Disney Swap, everyone has to do a title topper so that takes the place of Group A. Then, everyone would need to select elements from the Point List that totaled 2 points to take the place of Group B. So that would mean that 4 embellished squares, 2 tags, 2 frames or 1 shaker box would all equal 2 points. (Tags would only be .5 of a point if we decided to have each person make a letter in addition to their topper and embellishment. Judging from the vote so far, it's looking like we will be having 1 person do all of the letters so each tag will be equal to 1 point.)

I may be in the minority, but I think 2 frames and 4 embellished squares require roughly the same amount of work and materials. If everyone thinks it is not equitable, those that sign up to participate can vote to decide on something they like better.

I hope my response made sense. Heaven knows it was long enough. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will try to do a better job of answering them without writing a book! :earseek:

See! ReAnSt did a MUCH better (and shorter) job of explaining it than I did! Your explanation is absolutely right. Thank you! :goodvibes

good question ... plus I thought the letters would be generic so we could decide in our own book what each letter would stand for ... maybe it is just me ... :)

Like ReAnSt mentioned above, everyone who signs up will get to vote on what topic they want for each letter. It will pretty much be that majority rules. That way, we all know what the topics will be and each participant can select their letters knowing what the theme will be. From that point, I don't really think each person then has to share what elements they are doing to make up their 2 points. I figure that you can all make whatever you like and surprise us. That way, our books will have the common element of a topper with a theme, some sort of decorative element(s) and a black letter that we can mount however we want for each letter of the alphabet.

Again, I know that this was a very long answer and I'm not even sure if I understand it. Let me know if I need to clarify my clarification. :teeth: Thanks for asking!! :)

so basically it's a topper plus 1 kind of swap? maggie

Shauna & Becky, thank you for the clarification. That makes more sense!

aaaah gotcha now so it isn't that 4 squares = .5 point
it is .5 per square x 4 = 2 points
i hate math - lol
makes sense now though

thanks for the replies! This sounds really fun! I vote for the group of 14.
(Thanks for the link, Shauna.....that really helped!)

I like the groups of 14.

Aug 15th is a work day for me so I don't know when I will be able to take a break from work and log on to sign up. Having a second possible group makes me feel better about not being left out. I will take any letter and any theme.

This is so exciting!

Ok my vote is one person all the letters (if its black I will have to have a way to mount mine as I have some Black pages in my book but I will worry about that) I like the idea of a smaller group even if you have 2 letters to do

Essentially yes, as long as the swap item(s) totals 2 points based upon the chart in the first post.

Thank you all for responding and for sharing your opinions. Your input has been wonderfully helpful in allowing me to determine how to set up this swap since it's so different from the other swaps that have been done here lately.

Here is the final rundown of how this swap will be set up:

Number of Participants
We will start with one group of 14. One member of the group will sign up to do 14 sets of alphabet die cuts using black cardstock. Each of the other 13 members will complete a 6" title topper and additional elements to total 2 points from the list below for 2 letters.
Once the first group fills, I will start another thread for a second group of 14 for sign-ups with the same rules.

Important Dates for Both Groups:
Sign-up Start:
August 15 - Sign up to participate in the swap and vote on a topic for each letter. Die cut person will sign up at this point to do die cuts but will still vote on topics.
Swap Start: September 1 - Tally all votes for topics. Majority rules for each letter. I will post the tallies and each participant will then select their 2 letters knowing what topic they will be working on when they choose. Item production begins.
Due Date: November 1 - I will wait one week for stragglers and then will send items.

List of Elements:
Mix 'n' Match - Each person must do the following:
1 Title Topper - 6" wide maximum (no handwriting please)

Some combination of the elements below totaling 2 points.

.5 point - 1 Embellished square (double matted)
1 point - 1 Tag (double matted) must include either fibers or eyelets in the holes
1 point - Frame (embellished)
1 point - Photo Mats (double matted/embellished)
1 point - Journal Box – (double matted) at least a 2x2 writing area
2 points - Shaped Eyelets/Brads/Buttons/Charms AND fiber (6 per person AND 1 yard)
2 points - Matted Poem or song Lyric (double matted/embellished) at least
4x4 space (no handwriting please)
2 points - Shaker Box
2 points - Paper Piecing

I hope all this makes sense. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to swapping with all of you talented ladies! :flower:

I could do a set of letters for one of the groups. Is Sizzix Fruit Smoothie okay to use?

I think we were looking at Fun Serif because they are the largest at 1 1/2" tall. Lollipop was the second runner up at 1". How tall are the Fruit Smoothie letters?

Fruit Smoothie is designed to cut a single sheet of cardstock resulting in letters approximately 3/4" tall. according to the Sizzix Website

Alternatively, has anyone thought about having stamped letters on cardstock tags or something like that? The foam stamps are a bit larger than the sizzix alphabets. I have one of the Making Memories ones and it is skinny but 3 inches tall....
