The purpose of this post is to help me determine how to arrange the ABCs of Disney Swap. Please only respond if you are interested in participating.

Established Details:
Sign-up Start:
August 15 - Choose your letter(s) and vote on a category for each letter
Swap Start: September 1 - Tally all votes for categories and begin swap.
Due Date: November 1 - I will wait one week for stragglers and then will send items.

Proposed List of Elements:
Mix 'n' Match - Each person must do the following:
1 Title Topper - 6" wide maximum (no handwriting please)
Some combination of the elements below totaling 1 pt. if each person does their own letter. (2 pts. if we have a 14th person only doing letters.)
Possibly a letter (see Option 2 below under Letters)

.5 point - Embellished squares (double matted)
.5 point (1 pt. - see above) - Tags (double matted) must include either fibers or eyelets in the holes
1 point - Matted Poem or song Lyric (double matted/embellished) at least 4x4 space (no handwriting please)
1 point - Frame (embellished)
1 point - Photo Mats (double matted/embellished)
1 point - Shaped Eyelets or Brads & fiber (6 per person & 1 yard)
1 point - Shaped paperclips & fiber (2 per person & 1 yard)
1 point - Journal Box – (double matted) at least a 2x2 writing area
2 point - Shaker Box
2 point - Paper Piecing

Now for the Questions:
Number of Participants: I would like to limit this swap to 13 people if we each do our own letter element (see below) or 14 with a Letter person. What this would mean is that everyone would only be making 13(14) of each item but that you would be working on 2 letters at once. Please let me know your thoughts.

Letters for each Page:
Option 1 - I think it would be great if we had 1 person who owns a die-cut machine to make all of the letters. They wouldn't be responsible for any other elements since they would be making a full alphabet for each person. I was hoping the letters could be black so that we could mat them on whatever color paper we need to match our page.
Option 2 - We require each person to make a letter element. The letter itself should be 2" tall and mounted on paper that corresponds with the other page elements. The letter element would be in addition to the title and then we would have each person do one additional decorative element such as 2 embellished squares, 1 embellished frame, 2 tags, etc. that adds up to 1 point.

Please respond to this post and cast your vote for number of participants and letter option. I look forward to hearing from each of you!

Option 1---Where we have 14 persons and 1 person doing the letters.

I have a sizzix and would be willing to do the letters. I have these fonts:

Fun Serif and Lollipop

Playground, Script, Girls are Wierd, Ransom

I would assume we would want to use Fun Seriff or Lollipop, but I can customize each alphabet for each person.

I think it is great - count me in - I like the option where one person does all the letters so they all are the same font. I like the idea of black letters to. I think that the 2 point idea sounds fine.

This is great - the cruise II swap ends Sept 1 so this will fit right into my schedule.

:cool1: (Sandy doing a happy dance)

I would be interested in signing up and also agree with the others to use a 14th person for letters.

ksjayhawks - Thanks for your offer to do the die cuts. I like the Fun Serif only because they are larger. I like the Lollipop font better but think it might be too small. What are your thoughts?

I am interested in this swap, but will be on the Disney Cruise during sign-ups. (I know, poor me!) I also have the Fun Serif upper and lowercase, as well as the Lollipop uppercase letters.

I like the idea of having one person make all of the letters. This way they will all be uniform and for those of us without die cut machines it will be easier.

I would prefer we do 27 people in the swap. That is if we can get 27 people to sign up. If we do 14, (13 letters + 1 die cut person), each person does two letters having to think of more ideas for each letter. Or if we do 27 (26 letters, plus die cut person) in the swap than each person makes more of the exact same object instead of having to come up with items for two different letters. Just something to think about. Although either way you are still making the same number of elements just differing types.

As for font I personally do not have a preference. Although I like the idea of all the letters being black.

Becky

I like the one person doing all the letters. Alas I do not have a Sizzix so I have very little opinion on the actual font...

I think I would prefer 13/14 participants. 26/27 seems like we're opening up the flake factor more.

i am very much interested in joining this swap - i think you might need to consider it being 27 people (i love the idea of one person doing all the letters - this would make for a very nice book!) - only since there seems to be so much interest in this swap

I vote for option 1. This would be so great. I can't always be online all day, I hope that I don't miss out on signing up for this since it will be limited to 14 people.

I also think 1 person punching the letters would give the album a more uniform feel. I like the idea of 13/14 people, though if there's lots of interest maybe we could do 1 letter per alphabet. Just random thoughts! I'm happy with whatever is chosen (assuming I get into this of course!)

I would really like to do an "ABC" book for my GS. Is it possible that we could have 2 groups of 13 or 14 if there is enought interest?

quick question (probably a stupid one, sorry!)...does the title topper actually HAVE a title on it or is it just an embellished PLACE to put whatever title you want?

maybe this is the route to go! that way we keep it small but everyone that wants to join can - sometimes these threads get started at a time not conveinent to everyone and then people miss out - this way we could see how many people all together want to do it - and do them in small groups!

Not a stupid question if you haven't done a swap before. Believe me, you can't have any more questions than I did for my first swap. :goodvibes

Anyway, the title topper needs to have the title of whatever letter/topic you choose. For example, if you have A for Aladdin, your topper would need to say Aladdin.

Hi Ladies!!!

Thank you to everyone for your input. It's been very helpful. I've tallied up the responses and put the update on the first post in this thread.

A new idea that was mentioned is to do 2 groups of 14. Honestly, I don't know if that is necessary. At this point, we have only heard from 12 people including me. We still have room for 2 more. If we do have more interest, I don't have a problem with the two groups. I will only be participating in one group but will happily host them both.

ReAnSt and Bubbasmom had great points regarding the group of 14 vs. the group of 27. Here are the pros and cons of both as I see them:

Group of 27
Pro - We would have to make 27 of each item but it would mean only having to develop ideas for two items (a topper and our chosen element) and then duplicating them.
Con - 27 is a lot to make. 27 people is a lot to corral and get in and, as Bubbasmom says, it opens it up to more of a "flake factor".

Group of 14 (either 1 or 2 groups)
Pro - Fewer people so less chance of the "flake factor". Have to make fewer duplicates of each piece.
Con - Twice as many ideas to develop and implement. More work overall in doing different pieces. If we only do one group of 14, it limits the number of people who can be involved.

So, does anyone else have any input?

?

ok, I get it! (For some reason, I was just thinking it would be just based on the letter, with random Disney embellishments, so that we could use the letter for whatever we want...I must have missed the part about the topic!! oops!) :teeth: So, if we have, let's say, Aladdin, will all of the embellishments be Aladdin too, or do they just have to coordinate with the topper? Thanks!

just a quick question about the point system, why are tags (2 double matted, eyelet/fiber) and squares (which I assume you are making 4 of and double matting, etc) only half a point? that's a lot more work than making one journal box or a frame. Just curious. maggie

good question ... plus I thought the letters would be generic so we could decide in our own book what each letter would stand for ... maybe it is just me ... :)
