...based on Dr. Addison Montgomery.

Will you watch? I'm not usually a big fan of spinoffs, but her character is intriguing. I'll probably watch it, at least for a while.

WHAT??? Where did you hear this? Does that mean she is leaving the show?

It was on a crawler during the news. I don't know any details other than that. It said "ABC is developing a Grey's Anatomy Spinoff based on Kate Walsh's character, Dr. Addison Montgomery".

It figures....ABC has a goldmine with GA, and already they are planning ways to disect it.

um.... no. I don't see the need. What's the plot going to be about? Addison pre-Derek? Addison post-Derek-but-with-Mark-before-he-cheated-on-her? Addison post-divorce? Will Addison leave Seattle Grace? I can understand why ABC wants to expand the Grey's franchise, but I don't know if an Addison series would be successful. I personally don't care for her.

LOS ANGELES - It looks like “Grey’s Anatomy” is about to go under the knife to cut out one of its stars… and breathe easy, Ellen Pompeo fans, it’s got nothing to do with the recent fiery ferry crash.

ABC has decided to pursue a “Grey’s” spin-off with sexy neonatal surgeon Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd (played by the lovely Kate Walsh) as the lead character, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal.

The pilot has yet to be finalized and “Grey’s” creator Shonda Rhimes has yet to decide on a title.

However, Rhimes recently filled the cast in on the idea and revealed she will write a special two-hour episode to serve as the pilot, with a likely debut in May, according to the report.Walsh joined the “Grey’s” cast in May 2005, appearing towards the end of the season one finale.

When contacted by Access Hollywood, ABC had no further comment beyond what was in the Wall Street Journal article.

In order to focus on the project, Rhimes has reportedly back-burnered “Correspondents,” another pilot she was working on starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played Katherine Heigl’s patient love interest Denny Duquette.

“Correspondents” follows a group of female journalists as they travel around the country doing news stories together. Although, it would star Morgan, it would have nothing to do with the “Grey’s” franchise.

Dang. As a member of the media, I would totally have digged "Correspondents."

I might give Addison a go as long as Shonda Rhimes writes it. I guess Addison isn't going to make CHIEF OF SURGERY now...

I like Addison but I don't know that ANY of the GA characters could pull off a spinoff show right now. I love the dynamics of the show this season - enough conflict but not too much, etc. I would be sad to see them cut out a character and esp. one that is liked. IMHO I would like to see Burke go as he just seems to NOT be a team player at all - in real life or on the show. I think medical shows in general do pretty well and would be intrigued enough to watch it in it's baby phase to see where things go.

I'd watch it as long as her love interest remained Dr. Kareb and they showed him in every scene:rotfl: Otherwise, count me out.

I can't see how they can really do it without trying to carbon copy GA. I like Addison-- I wish she and Derek had stayed together, actually, because I don't much like Meredith.

Addison has started to grow on me but I'm not sure how a spinoff would turn out. I would probably watch it at first, then I'd have to see.

I'm worried that this will end up being what Joey was compared to Friends. But, Joey was after Friends was cancelled. Why mess with a spin-off when GA is still doing so well, (and that's an understatement.)

I think poor Addison definately deserves a life beyond that of being

"the woman who stands between Meredith and McPukey."

ITA- It is how they interact w/ each other. I don't think they can duplicate that w/ a different cast on a different show.

I'll watch, but quite frankly, I don't think it will work.

Sounds like a kiss of death to me.

I don't think it would work either. IMHO the show works because of the interaction of all the characters.

I'll be curious as to how they create a show around her, but IMO, what makes Grey's Anatomy work is that it doesn't revolve around one character, it's a true ensemble show, despite the name. :)

That is how I feel. I don't see the need for it though. Then again all the baby stuff would be interesting.

I really wish they would do another show on Psychiatry (real, not just joke ones.) I used to work in a psy unit and let me tell you, it would make for interesting (but scary) t.v.

As far as friends and Joey goes, friends was alreay canceled or set to be when they made Joey.

I think this is a great idea - strong female lead character, very interesting and emotional - possibly controversial subject matter, teriffic writing. I am really looking forward to seeing where it leads.

I think Shonda can create the same character interaction on another show as she does with GA. Just look how involved we become with characters who are only there for 2 episodes (the bomb squad guy), or only for short periods of time (Denny), or characters who come in and out (Meredith's dad). Shonda is brilliant with her character interaction.

Also, Gray's isn't built around a bunch of unknown actors. Some of the actors had pasts on other shows which we remember and look fondly back on (Dempsey, Oh, Addison, bomb squad guy, Denny) - which creates greater interest in seeing them in new roles.

If they don't kill off Addision they can bring her back to GA periodically to generate more interest for her show. If her show tanks, she can come back - and maybe bring some interesting characters back with her.
