Abandoned Attractions

I helped bring back Captain EO by writing to them everyday and they brought it back to WDW,so I may be able to do this one too!

I also got the Imagineers address where the head of builders etc., is there..Im also going to send them a letter and ask them about the current state of WOL. One of them should be able to give me an answer and when I get one I'll report back to this form. They may not even tell me because they may want to keep a secret and not tell anybody until its almost done (if they do make a new attraction etc.,)

Delusions of grandeur anyone? Captain EO's return was pretty much able to come to the table due to the death of Michael Jackson. If you cannot exploit a perverted dead person...who can you exploit?

And I hope that with the addition of WWoHP, Disney might finally move and after it's done with the Princess invasion of ToonTown (am I the only one thinking Roger Rabbit and the Dip?!?!?) that they'll expand AK and add the Beastly Kingdom back in...

:hippie:

I remember walking around Animal Kingdom and asking CMs where the dragon attractions were. I figured since there was a big dragon in the center of the logo...there should at least be some sort of Dragon...somewhere...

I never noticed a big ole' flying, fire breathing dragon in the middle....
What's up with that ??
Fantasy maybe ??
Interesting, huh?

AND LOVE this Thread !! Thanks DIS'ers

bump...anyone have any new neglected buildings/rides/anything at Disney?

I saw this thread and was wondering how it made a comeback. I didn't read through all 45 pages, but was wondering if anyone mentioned the Alien Ride in Tomorrowland. Poor thing was abandoned. Funnily enough, they leave a trash heap there and let you walk through to see it. :lmao:

Just finished reading, and y'all helped me remember a lot of what I saw on my very first trip--I'm pretty sure I saw the middle incarnation of Figment (sans Dreamfinder?) All I remember is the line

Person: "I must be going out of my mind"
Figment: "No--I'm out of your mind!"

And Food Rocks was my favorite! I'd forgotten all about it.

So thanks for that.

Question: Does anyone remember, I believe it was in the Wonders of Life Pavillion, a Star Trek Spoof about dental hygiene? I've been thinking I imagined it all these years, but I thought that about Food Rocks too (I was four when I went, so memory's a bit foggy) any info would be appreciated

I was reading another website about the Wonders of Life pavilion, and according to that website, the pavilion didn't open until 1989, but I don't think that can be right.

I absolutely remember the double strand DNA, and the body wars motion simulator from my senior class trip in 1988. I didn't go to Disney World at all between 1988, and 2007, so there is no way I could have been on that ride unless I had done it in '88.

89 sounds about right because Body Wars and Star Tours opened around the same time. MGM didn't open until 89.

Now, I'm sure the double Strand DNA was in place before the pavilion officially opened. When did you take your senior trip? Maybe a soft opening?

Maybe a soft opening?

The first soft opening was Oct. 19, 1989.

Body Wars and Star Tours (at that time) operated using the same kind of ride system.
But Star Tours (at Disney MGM Studios) didn't open until Dec. 15, 1989.

For some reason I found the stuff about discovery island and river country in this thread fascinating. I am mostly shocked about the condition they left the building! To me, Disney has an image of "being perfect" and having everything magical...all the trash, pictures, ect left in the buildings doesn't seem very magical to me! Seems like they would at least clean out the buildings!!

I guess since no guests should be going to those areas they thought why waste the money.

If you can't see it its still magical. If you could see the condition of backstage World Showcase you would call it a dump. I have been back there twice for school trips and there is stuff just piled all around. If you do a google or Bing satellite photo of the area you will see what I mean.

Scroll around this page and you see what I mean.

As for why they just did tear everything down at RC it again would be a waste. Usually the tearing down of the area would be part a budget to rebuild. Since there is some question on whether there are any rebuilding plans its cheaper just to leave it there. Also they wouldn't want to tear something down they may want to reuse.

My favorite abandoned attraction is Expedition Everest, followed by Carousel of Progress.

I have a few pictures of the wave machine at the Polynesian Resort. Unfortunately I have no way to post them here.

It was located at Beach Comber’s Island and cast waves onto the southwest beach (now the Disney Wedding Pavilion). The waves were never big enough to surf on but they did cause significant erosion of the Poly beach and wave machine was shut down permanently. The seawall behind the machine is still intact and part of the wave machine below the water is still there.

Incidentally, Beach Comber Island was the original location of the Polynesian Luau.

If you will post 8 more times on the DISboards, then you can come back to your above post and edit it... and add the links to your pictures.

As to how (if you don't know) HERE are video tutorials on (among other things) how to post photos on the DIS.
