Abandoned Attractions

Sorry if this has been asked/answered already.

But is it possible to still visit Discovery Island? (or what's left of it)

Yes! But only if you're willing to take risks and break laws. For the rest of us, sadly, the answer is no.

Does anyone have a link to the thread with the creepy River Country pictures?
Oh and also, what was the Odyssey restaurant? That's one I don't know about...

The "Pavilion Whose Name Must Not Be Spoken" looks like a gigantic, abandoned beehive.

Speaking strictly as someone who never went to Epcot until 1999, both that building and the Odyssey place are eye-sores that should torn down. However, if you were someone who grew up making happy memories at either place, I can understand why you'd want them to stay and be renovated. In any case, the way those buildings look now is a disgrace.

Maybe I missed it but has anybody mention Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom? I have a great picture of my oldest not to happy coming out of that ride...LOL.

Omg I loved Mr. Toads Wild Ride! My brother and I were obsessed with it when we were younger! We were so disappointed when they got rid of it. But I can't say I don't like The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh :thumbsup2

I'm gonna guess that Disney has a master plan for those buildings and will eventually be dealt with. Who knows when, but maybe we will get lucky and after Fantasyland, they will hop over to Epcot and work on it.

Didn't there used to be big "pin tables" in the Imagination building? They were huge tables where you run your hands under it and push the pins up to get the imprint of you hand or whatnot. Whatever happened to those?

They did! We have some of the old vacation planning videos from the 80's/90's on video cassette and they show the pin tables, and the old ride with Dream Finder. Speaking of which I think they should bring the original figment ride back :thumbsup2 Kinda like an abandoned attraction. Not exactly but kinda. Rumor has it the top floor now is used as storage for all the original figment ride stuff. Maybe Disney will bring the original back one day :) I miss Dream Finder!

The Odyssey was a counter-service restaurant. It has been closed to the public for many years. I believe that it is used occasionally for special events.

About 12 years ago, while I was a cm, cms would walk through there to get to backstage.

It was only a CS? I thought for sure by the looks of it, that it was a TS. Wow!

One of the nice things about the Odyssey restaurant was that there were tables next to the water there and it had a nice view of World Showcase. As nytimez said now it has all the charms of a highway rest stop since the only reason to even stop there is to use the rest rooms.

I believe these pictures were taken from the outside seating area...

A much better view than the Electric Umbrella.

But they are nice rest rooms...at least the ones on the left side.

For those that care I found one more picture with the flamingos.

The area went right up to the walkway.

Does anyone remember the Horizon ride at Epcot? I used to love going in there as a child. I couldn't wait for that smell of oranges as you walked into the building and being able to pick how you returned from your journey at the end. It so strange to think of all the things that you remember as a child that aren't there anymore. The first time I went back after being so many times as a child, I remember 20,000 leagues was gone and I just couldn't picture Disney without it. I know things change with that times, but some old favorites...you just can't replace that feeling you got as a child.

I remember the Horizons ride! I loved that ride and wondered what happened to it...I was devastated when they got rid of Mr. Toads Wild Ride. My brother and I loved that ride...I really wish I could have shared that one with my son.
