I actually saw the Big Red Boat a few years ago in Freeport, Bahamas. At least one of the crew members said that's what it was. It sure looked like I remembered it but it was rusting away amongst a bunch of old industrial vessels. Sad!

Ah, I think that was the one they tried to sell but no one would buy it, so it sat there and rusted away until it was sold for scrap 4-5 years ago.

I was completely blown away by Epcot when it opened! The World of Motion and old Imagination rides were both excellent. And Horizons was just incredible and always a special favorite of mine. They all had great music and audioanimatronics and the themes seemed to really fit the later Epcot theming to me. I miss them all and don't think that any of the replacements do them justice.

I'm particularly nostalgic about the lost Epcot attractions; Food Rocks, Cranium Command, the original Journey into Imagination. Is there any truth to the rumor that Mickey and Minnie's houses in Toontown are going to be closed? My sister heard that this was a possibility in order to make room for the new Fantasyland expansion. I would be devastated!

1- True.

2- It is a fact.

(We do not yet know if they will rebuild/relocate those houses elsewhere at WDW,
but it does not look good for the houses to survive the upcoming Fantasyland transformation.)

Total truth...Toontown will be closed and mostly razed as it becomes part of the expanded Fantasyland.

There are still rumors persisting that Mickey's and Minnie's houses will be relocated, but the suits have been very sly in their details...but Mickey and Minnie are at a minimum supposed to get meet&greets at what is now the Exposition Hall. There is a possibility the houses may find their way there as well...

The only survivor of Toontown will be Barnstormer, but it will get rethemed.

Oh my goodness the Big Red Boat!! That was my first ever cruise (and vacation?? I think) when I was 6 years old! I was on it BEFORE it was a Disney boat I think. I'm pretty sure because I remember my mom booking a second trip on it RIGHT when the deal was going through with Disney and the whole trip fell apart and we never got to go again.

I know it's not rotting away but I miss "If you had Wings." I have great memories of it as a child. Way back it was one of the few things that required no ticket and after we used all of ours my mom and I just kept riding it on and on. When I went back with the family there were no tickets and now I am older with my own family it is something I would have loved to show my kids.

Reading this make me think back to all of the fun times. I didn't notice the flamingos gone the last time I was there but I do from trips before.

I don't know if it was specifically mentioned earlier, but those Epcot flamingoes were relocated to Disney's Animal Kingdom, when it opened.

OMG me too!!!!! I will NEVER forget the Big Red Boat!!!! It was my first and only cruise!!! I remember how much fun I had...They had so many activities for kids!

Of these were Morocco and Norway -- both opened later than the park did. But another one was Africa (or maybe specifically South Africa, as it would have had to be a particular nation). It was supposed to be where the outpost is now (between China and Germany).

Does anyone know more about this and why it never came to pass? I've always surmised that it was due to the increasing political resistance to the National Party in the late 80s, but never have heard any explanation.

Maybe they just decided to move it to another theme park........ AKA.... AK....

It was actually an Equatorial Africa pavilion, not tied to a particular country. It just never got past the planning and announcement (Alex Haley announced it on the Epcot opening special on Wonderful World Of Disney with Danny Kaye). All I remember was that there was supposed to be a film done by Haley, and at least a portion of the area was meant to look like an African village with huts.

Even back then, Disney occasionally announced something that vaporized later...

Since then, of course they created Animal Kingdom which has its Africa section. Don't expect an Africa pavilion at Epcot.

If memory serves, Morocco opened two years after opening in 1984, and Norway in 1988.
