Did anybody see the end of the Evening News with Charles Gibson tonight? Mickey was one of the people that wishes him well.

Yeah, I saw it -- everyone said "goodbye" to him! All the living former presidents, President Obama, Kermit the Frog -- lots and lots of interesting goodbyes there! Charlie Gibson is well liked. I think he is more middle-of-the-road in his interviews -- not clearly liberal or clearly conservative, which I think makes for good reporting. He could ask tough questions, though, but you always got the impression he was interested in hearing the answer and hadn't already made up his mind. Some reporters seem to be looking for only one answer -- the one they already decided they want to hear. I think Charlie will be missed. He was great on Good Morning America, too.

I saw it too. I am sad to see him go.

Dang! I missed it. Too much holiday stuff needed to get done. :(

I never thought I'd see those three in the same sentence. :lmao:

Charlie Gibson will be missed. He was/is a true gentleman. When I lived in NYC the Gospel Choir I sang with performed on their Christmas Morning show for several years. Charlie and Diane came down to meet and greet and shook hands with each and every choir member...and there was over 100 of us!

I agree with a previous poster who said that he seemed to genuinely WANT to hear what people had to say. He is an excellent interviewer. He has a way of being tough and gentle all at the same time.

I will miss him saying that he hoped I had a good day at the end of every show. He could barely get through it last night...his voice was SO shaky. He also seemed so touched with the staff applauding him for a long time as the cameras faded away.

Godspeed Charlie, enjoy your retirement. You deserve it!!!!

Linda

I will miss him.
He almost lost it at one point saying goodbye. :sad1:

Oh my goodness, I read this thread title as "Charles Gibson Died Tonight". Boy, am I glad that my eyes are wonky and that he is still alive! I had already started to pray for his soul before I caught my error.

I've always thought that he was a class act. I wish him many more years of health and life.

I heard her say one night this week that he has never had off more than one week in a row since he started.

It was so nice to see someone get that acknowledgement before they died. I have watched Charlie from the beginning and always liked him. He was a reporter rather than a "news star". In his later years my dad would always say "I had such a great day" after being with my DD and I and when Charlie started saying that it really brought back memories, I got teary eyed every night but in a good way. I'm really going to miss him.

He seems like such a good guy. He sure did put in his time, I hope he has a long, happy retirement.:)
