AAA versus AP rate

Can anybody tell me how the AP roomrate compares to the AAA rate etc?

At the moment, we've got a 15% discount on our room at the CBR for dec. 2008. :cheer2: I looked into different tickets, and with us going 14 days, it would be about $120,- more to buy one AP for one of us. If an AP gives a great discounted rate, it just might be very worth it. So, I guess I'm asking; how much discount did you recieve on your room part with an AP-rate, and what are the chances of scoring such a rate for the first 2 weeks of december?

Another question about the AP; is it valid for 12 calender months (so januari 1st-december 31st) or is it valid for 365 days after the first day of using it? WDW might not happen for 2009, but who knows, if that AP would still be valid, I'ld just háve to go. :rolleyes1

I had a reservation for POFQ for the second week of December (that I didn't use). Originally, I had a AAA rate of $119 and then rebooked with the AP rate of $99. The problem with the AP rate is that they only come out of a few months before and there aren't as many available at the AAA rate. I've been booking AAA rates and then waiting for the AP rates to come out. That way I know I have a room at some discount even if I can't get the AP discount. I'm pretty darn flexible and sorta book based on when I can get the best discount at whatever resort and I haven't had a problem getting an AP rate so far (that's based on only two trips though).

I don't think I'd buy an AP just to try to get the discount though. If you're planning on coming back any way, then sure. It's good for 366 days - not calendar year.

If you want to see the AAA discounts you can find it on Mousesavers. It ranges from 10 - 20% depending on the level of resort. In the past there have been AP rates for value resorts in value season for about 45% off.

If an AP rate becomes available for your dates you can book it without having the AP. You must, however, present it at check in.

The AP is valid for 366 days starting the first time you use it to enter a park.

We bought our AP's for our Anniversary since we hadn't been in forever. However, one of the bonuses were the AP rates on the WDW resorts. For our next mini-vacation the AP rates were much, much better than our AAA room only rates so I was able to get DH to book a 3 day trip to WDW rather than doing day trips only. So for us having AP's really were worth it when it came to booking a resort. :goodvibes

Thnx for the replies! I decided to keep an eye out for the release of the AP rates and just see what the quote will be. Looking at rates others have posted regularly, it can definately be worth it. If pixiedust does happen and I can get a room at a mod for 99,- a night, it would still save more than $20,- a night (got a rate of $121andabit right now with the AAA rate), which would really add up for a 2 week stay.

Just one question about the AP. You'll (ofcourse!) need an AP at check in. The info I've read states you'll need an activated AP. If I buy an AP, it wouldn't be activated untill the trip I want to use the rate for. How do I go about that? Buying the AP, and activating the voucher at the resort at check in, or earlier?

We just came back and had an annual passholders rate, we arrived at our hotel at 10:45pm (due to a late flight) with only annual pass vouchers. We had no problem we activated them the next morning at Animal Kingdom Park. You may be asked to stop by the next day to show your activated passes but we were not, they accepted the vouchers and our word that we would be activating them in the morning.

We have the AAA rate at the Poly. for May '08. It's 10% off ($40/night savings). For deluxe resorts, buying an AP and paying AP roomrate -- if you can get it -- can be more affordable than paying AAA rate and buying a MYW ticket. Never a guarantee that there will be an AP rate for our time period or that it'll be as good as previously, so AAA is a good back-up. No word yet.

We had an AAA rate for our 2/24 trip until this morning when AP rates came out! We got an additional $230 (plus the $60 to join AAA, making it a $290 savings) off of the AAA rate. Hope that helps! Different season, but a comparison to add in!

Sorry - forgot to say that was for the Yacht club!

Anyone have experience getting an AP rate for summer season? We are travelling June 28 - July 12.

For December, I have gotten better rates with my AAA discount, for the last 2 years.

Right now, I have a package booked through AAA and have saved $250 on a 8night/9 day, 1 base ticket, basic dining, room at AS Music Family Suites, but I am hoping a better rate comes out since I now have an AP. Only problem is there might not be any Suites available at AP rate and I will sacrifice a little money for the size of the room, since I have to accommodate a disabled mother and have her be comfortable.
