AAA Savings...should I book?

I checked with my local AAA office yesterday and booking thru them would save $150, on 8 nights, 8 day park hoppers & dining plan for 2 adults, 2 children at a value resort. Is this about right for AAA discounts? The AAA rep was very nice and said that she would make all of my ADRs. The control freak in me started to panic because that is one thing I like to do...luckily it falls on a Sunday so she said that I could make them, send them to her and she would make up index cards with all of them on there. She says she likes to spoil her clients. She also said that she will apply any discounts without me asking her to, of course I would call and make sure this happened.

I will add that I spoke with 2 other agents in the same office that didn't seem to know what they were talking about at all but she really seemed to know her stuff.

Should I book thru AAA or not?

From what I understand, if you're going with the whole room/ticket/dining package, you must book with AAA in order to get the AAA discount. I think if you're just doing a room, you can use your AAA member card to get a discount through ANY travel agent (i.e. Disney or other non-AAA travel agency), but to get the room discount on a package including dining, you must book through AAA. (This is what I understood). Our AAA discount in January for 8 nights, tickets, dining, etc. at value resort was about $150, so your price sounds correct. If your travel agent seems like she knows what she's doing, and if I'm correct that you need to book with AAA in order to get the package on the discount, then I'd say go for it.

My TA offered to book my ADRs, but I did them myself. I'm glad I did - I've already changed them THREE times for January - I would be completely embarrassed to ask my travel agent to keep calling and changing, but maybe you're more definite in your dining plan-decisions that I am.

You can check to see how much you saved by calculating what Disney charges at www.disney dot com then compare it to the AAA rate.

This is from Mousesavers dot com:

American Automobile Association (AAA) and Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) members qualify for "room only" discounts almost year-round, though there are a limited number of rooms available for each date. You can generally save about 10-20% at the Disney resort hotels, depending on the season.

In general, the discounts run as follows:

*
During Value Season you can get up to 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.
*
During Regular Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.
*
During Peak Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts.
*
The only time AAA/CAA discounts don't usually apply is Holiday Season (around Christmas).

You don't have to book AAA/CAA rates through the Auto Club. Room-only reservations with an AAA discount can be booked directly through the Disney Reservation Center at (407) W-DISNEY or a travel agent who specializes in Disney travel. Just ask if there is an AAA or CAA discount for your dates and resort.
