AAA rates for 2011 can now be applied

Certainly you may ask!! We will be staying 13 nights--from May 15 to May 28 of 2001. We have requested a preferred site in the 300 Loop. We now have a rate of $75.65 for 10 of the nights and $78.20 on the other 3.

Thanks to this thread, I am a new AAA member and will save 15% per night for our May 2011 trip! We have a premium site and we're paying $85.85/ night for 3 nights and $83.30 for the other nights!!! Ends up being a savings of just under $119 for us! And if I'm calculating the ticket savings correctly, we'll also save $63.42 on a 4 day park hopper w/ water park!!! That's a total of $182.42!!! Considering the AAA membership only costs $61 to cover my hubby---that's a savings of $121.42!!!!

It's also time to renew my Good Sam's roadside protection, but I may opt to go w/ AAA's plan. Anyone know the cost for that and if it's as good as Good Sam's. They can't do an online quote for RV Plus coverage---I'll have to call on Monday.

Don't know what kind of unit you have but AAA could not provide any flat tire service on a class "C" mh 25 miles outside of Indianapolis or in Peoria, IL.. Personally I'd find another provider for your RV. JMHO

We have a 5th wheel. Just bought it (2nd hand) last year and because I was so new to the game, I'm pretty sure I bought multiple roadside assistance coverage from different companies. Before I renew my Good Sam's, I'm going to check my GMAC insurance and my platinum warranty coverage for my 5th wheel. Thanks for the info about AAA. I'll still check on that on Monday too.

What kind of cancellation policy does AAA have? What do you do if Disney comes out with better rates? Do you have to pay for you vacation in advance with AAA or is it just downpayment? Refundable?

Hey Tabitha---This is how I booked: The first call I made was to Disney Reservations. I spoke to Lucas and gave him my existing reservation #, etc. and asked if there was a AAA discount for the time period I was staying. He, basically, told me "no" and that I'd have to call AAA. I hung up and decided to call back and hope for a CM who might have a different/ better answer. I got Lauren on the 2nd call and she was wonderful. She built a new reservation for me to check the AAA discount and found that, yes, she could give me 15% off. The only thing was that I had booked a "vacation package" with my first reservation and the discount did not apply to that. I could, however, book a room/ site only and receive the discount. Only difference was that w/o booking a vacation package, we couldn't get dining plan. No biggie for us, because we weren't getting it anyway! I booked through Disney and so have the same cancellation policy as before, so if Disney comes out w/ better rates, I'll just cancel and re-book. I also only had to pay one night's lodging to reserve the site. I didn't even have to give my AAA number---just need to show the card at check-in. It was easy-peasy.

I did, and they can give me 10% off a Magic Your Way package. I doubt a better deal will come around, given the timing, so I'm not real concerned with applying a later discount to the package.

My concern is, is there any other drawback to booking through AAA and not Disney? I've never even booked a vacation before, and now I'm in charge of engineering this thing for my family, I don't want to mess up!

I'm not sure what the "exact" difference is. I was told the same thing as you (to call AAA and book through them if I wanted the discount) by the first CM I spoke with. He warned me that they would "own" my reservations and didn't offer a clear explanation of what that meant, other than I'd have little control over making any changes. Because of what I'd read on here, I decided to hang up with him and call back and hope for a CM who might be more helpful. I lucked up on the 2nd call and she looked up the AAA discount to see if it would work for the weekend I was asking about and BINGO, it worked. It didn't work for a vacation package, but room (site) only. She said the only difference would be that we couldn't get the dining plan this way. Didn't matter to us as we weren't getting it anyway.

That did help, thank you! We called again and used the room only discount and then bought the tickets online. It was the same price as booking the package straight through AAA, but we wanted to go with Disney for a little peace of mind. Your info definitely helped!

Frustrating, but.....we got our AAA discount!

I called to make our reservation today. The CM told me the discount was not available and that I should call back after the holidays to see if had become available. I knew that I had read on this board that people were getting the discount, so I called back. Amazingly, 20 minutes after my first call a second CM was able to find and apply the discount.

We saved almost $200 on our premium site for two weeks in June.

Made another ressie for April 2011 in a Partial hook-up for early in the month. That is Peak rate time before the rates spike even higher for the two weeks of Easter. Saved 10% so total AAA savings at the Fort in 2011 is $130.

My question - can I just call and ask them to apply the AAA rate to the existing ressie, or would I have to start fresh?

You can certainly call and ask if the AAA discount can be applied to your existing ressie.

There seems to be only "so many" AAA-discounted available sites for each level (Partial, Full, Preferred, Premium) and once they're claimed they're gone. So the early bird gets the worm here. I've gotten 10-15% off on my ressies for next year (Partial ressies) and there seem to be more Partial discounts than the more expensive ones up the line. They can only apply the discount if they have vacant, unused AAA discounts available for your dates for your level. Once you claim yours that's one less available to everyone else.

BTW, if you call to check and are turned down, it might be worth it to call back and try your luck with another Cast Member. Some folks report success on the second try after being turned down on the first. The first was either too lazy or didn't know how to check. But AAA discounts sound like they are one of those things that after they're gone (after repeated tries), they don't turn back up.
