My husband and I live in the downtown core of Toronto so we have no need for our own car (we're autoshare members) but I was thinking that perhaps buying the CAA card for our upcoming WDW trip might be beneficial with some of the Swan and Dolphin restaurant discounts, a possible stay at the YYZ Sheraton and a car rental. The yearly rate is somewhere around $70 I believe. Are there any other benefits that would make this membership useful to us non-regular car users?

Hi - you get lots of discounts with CAA - movie tickets, discounts at various stores (Payless Shoes for one). I would check out their website or stop in their store. CAA also sells luggage and travel accessories at discounted prices for members!

There is actually a membership called Ala Carte for people just like you!! It includes all of the benefits of a membership but not road service!!!!

Its usually around $35, and yes I think it is worth it. Also AAA discounts are available to CAA members!

That's wonderful!
Thanks so much!

We just finished our first year with CAA and we've saved a ton of money, not even counting the roadside assistance. We got discount tickets to Wonderland (I believe $20 off/ticket), multiple discounts on hotels, discount at the Zoo, etc. And I've had it taken everywhere that takes AAA, so I don't think that's a problem, but I don't know the official policy so I wouldn't want to guarantee it.

Also, one thing I learned about CAA when we joined is that it is attached to the person, not the car. So you don't need to have a car for the roadside things to be useful. Anytime you might need help an an Autoshare car - for instance, recently my husband locked the keys in the car, something that probably paid for the cost of the membership as well, or if you ran out of gas or needed towing, etc - then it would be covered through CAA. Even if you were with a friend in one of their cars, or in a regular rental. I was a member of Autoshare for a while, but I don't remember what their policy is if something like that happens to a member. But if you lock yourself out of the car, I can't imagine that they would pay for you to get back in.

Either way, I definitely recommend it.

We're totally going to go for it! It does seem like a great value for everything you get.

ps - We once locked the keys inside an Autoshare, we called and within 15 minutes and guy on a bike came by with a second set of keys and opened the door for us - totally free! It's such a small company they have interesting ways of doing things :D

Something you might also want to look into is Ontario Auto Club. They gave us a FREE 12 month CAA membership when we purchased their mechanical brake-down coverage. For $499 they cover all the costs for repairs to your car's major components like motor, transmission, altenator, etc. They also include 12 months of CAA free. We were referred by friends of ours that were more then satisfied with the amount they saved from one shop visit with their car.

Their site is OntarioAutoClub.com

Just my 2 cents worth.

Duty Free (not sure if all but for sure in Port Huron) is now offering 20% discount of all regular priced items (excluding alcohol and tobacco) if you show your CAA card.

the biggest benefit we've gotten from our CAA membership is from the AAA main office in orlando(AAA auto club south)it's on colonial drive just past the downtown area. they have a ticket kiosk in the back and have AMAZING discounts on tickets and attractions..for instance i just bought my wife a 1 year power pass to universal for like $104 dollars, almost $40 less than at the gate...thats like a $50 cad savings...when i bought my universal preffered pass a few years ago there i got a year free..2 years for the price of 1...they also have lots of other discounts(disney tickets, kennedy spacecenter etc) check there website all the tickets and prices are there...with a CAA membership you can't order online but you can go in to that AAA office, they'll scan your card and save you lots of cash....hope thats of benefit also!!!!
