AAA Discount Questions

With the rising cost of a premium site, we have finally decided to go ahead and get a AAA card to offset it when we can. I've also given up on trying to get sites online or even calling the reservations line when you may or may not get an agent that actually gives you accurate information. For over a month, I tried to get Thanksgiving Week 2013 and couldn't get but random days over the week.......and a wonderful travel agent who I was referred to got me 2 premium sites right away. I don't know how they do it and I don't care anymore. We're going to keep going to the Fort for the foreseeable future.

My question is about the AAA discount. We always go with my sister and her family. We always reserve 2 premium sites. I haven't gotten my AAA card yet, but I can add her as a user under our account. Will she have her own AAA number or will it be the same as mine? And can she get the discount too or can I get the discount for the 2 sites with my membership and then transfer the reservation into her name under her credit card at check in?

I'm new to the AAA discount stuff, so I'd love to get some more information. Thanks!

thegoofyfamily, I'm not sure I am following all this but I will try since I have had experience with two sites on an AAA discount.

First, you mentioned the travel agent booked the sites. Is this an AAA travel agent (who might have automatically looked for an AAA discount)?

Second, were the sites reserved under an AAA discount? I don't know what the discount availability would be given that Thanksgiving is a popular time at the Fort.

On the side, I have only been asked ONCE in all my AAA-discounted trips to the Fort for my membership number when making the reservation (however, it was on this most recent trip).

Here is my experience booking multiple sites with AAA discounts applied:

I myself called and reserved two sites (identical types) and got an AAA discount on each. I paid the deposit (one night's charge) for both sites and my second party reimbursed me for the deposit. I was asked to provide the details of the people in both parties (name, age, etc) to be listed on each ressie and was given two reservation numbers (one for us and one for them).

Due to unforeseen circumstances at this point the trip never came off because we had to cancel it.

When checking in, the people whose name is on the site can check in with their reservation and pay the remaining balance. You are not REQUIRED to be the one to pay for both sites on checkin (I don't believe).

So in this scenario I don't think your sister has to be a card-carrying member of AAA if you are when you make the ressie and/or apply the AAA membership to an available discount. Getting the discount is something completely separate.

We did a family Thanksgiving back in 2009 at the Fort (cooked a 22# turkey in a table top roasting oven on the picnic table in site 1513) on the Friday after Thanksgiving and then watched Bama beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl (it was close at the beginning). But eating turkey at the Fort was a pleasant memory and it should be fun for you.

PS - anyone, if I made an error above please feel free to correct me...

Thanks Ed! You answered EVERYTHING! Sorry I was so cryptic. We did not reserve with a AAA agent, but he has checked for the AAA rate and as of now, it's not available.

My main question was can I use my AAA discount for both sites and I guess it sounds like you did used one AAA number for 2 sites. I did call and check myself for the AAA discount for Thanksgiving and asked if I needed to have my number available for this call and they told me I did. I'm pretty sure their system is not tied to the AAA system, so I kinda doubt they would be able to verify if I gave them a good number or not.

I'm pretty excited that I'm going for Thanksgiving that I don't really care about the discount right now.

Oh.....and 46 more days until ALABAMA FOOTBALL! ROLL TIDE!
