I booked rooms through Disney and a week later called back to add the dining plan. I was told that if I added the dining plan, I could not have the AAA discount on the room. If I cancel the original reservations I made through Disney, can I rebook through AAA, get the room discount and also the Dining plan?

Yes. In order to get the DDP and the AAA discount, you need to book a package through an AAA travel agent. I've done this 3 times. You get the room discount incorporated into the package, and the only way to do that is with AAA directly. The Codes board has a lot of information about this issue, too.

Tam1067 is correct. I always did room only reservations through Disney to get the AAA discount but last year we wanted the DDP. The only way to get it WITH the AAA discount is to book it through AAA directly. You can still make all of your own ADR's and such if you wish so that you have some control over your trip~that's what I always do since I'm such a control freak :rotfl: We have another August trip booked through AAA w/ the DDP for this year as well :)

Just make sure you book with AAA before you cancel your room only. Just because you got the room only AAA discout does not mean there are AAA package rooms available for your dates. If you book AAA you will have to put down the $200 package deposit then cancel the room only and wait for the refund...this can take up to 2 weeks. This is what happened to us last time and ended up being worth it, but a bit of a headache at the time.

Good luck!

What happens if you book through AAA with the room discount and get dining and THEN FREE DINING happens? Do you still have to rebook at rack rate with AAA?

What I was told by my AAA agent was this....I booked our trip package w/o air & insurance w/AAA, put down my $200.00 deposit, IF, a code or free dining comes out, I'm to call him back and he can adjust it. I will also call him back to add trip insurance once I book my flights. HTH

You can only do either-or.... If you find the AAA room rate is a better savings than the free DDP, then you can keep it as is... but if the Free Dining is a bigger savings, your room rate will have to be @ rack rate but your TA agent can adjust it.

Last year I had my pkg. through AAA with the discounted rate off the room portion... then 46 days before my trip, Disney released some public rates (code ZJZ) that had a more significant room discount than the AAA one. I called my agent that day and she called me back 10 min. later to tell me she'd called Disney and they were refunding me another $218    for the difference :thumbsup2

You can only use one discount at a time-as they say-"No double-dipping on discounts." :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Of course, it's been noted here that some dis'ers have been able to somehow secure both in the past :confused3 but technically it's only 1 discount per pkg and it was pure luck on their part...

I booked the entire package through my AAA agent (I find it much better to see them in person). The April package included 2 preferred rooms (1 room for family of 4 and 1 room for me) DPP, Park Hopper tix (we have no days for water parks). I did air on my own, she helped with ADR's. I paid for it in full on the exact date it was due. I saved almost $200 on both room packages through AAA.

But then after I paid in full, the code came out for free ticket upgrade. I called her and she worked with Disney. Turns out I saved an additional $97 but only on one reservation-the family of four. But that room lost the AAA discount so it turned out to be about half. Mine as an individual did not save $ nor did I recieve the water parks upgrade. The code only worked for a certain amount of people staying in the room. (yes, we probably could have moved people around to make the number in both rooms eligible but it wasn't worth the hassle at this point). Now we still don't have time for the water parks and we won't use them but the code saved additional bucks. Bringing the total saved with AAA plus the tix upgrade code to almost $250.

But you have to work with them and keep checking in. When I originally made the ressies there were no preferred rooms available at the AAA rate. Later when I asked her to check again, they were available so we snagged them.

wow this helps me-- i am thinking of booking with AAA today and this is making me feel even better to go with them:) i am also hoping for free dinning but i am not letting it hold me back if its no offered thanks everyone:)

I've booked thru AAA too. When calling for ADR's will I need a reservation #?
Will it be the same # for Disney's system as it is on my AAA paperwork?
Also-Do I have an official reservtion # while I pay off the vacation or only after it is paid in full?

Thanks-
Rosie

I have not needed a reservation number to book my dining. I just tell the person who asks that I do not have a reservation number, and they go with that.

Depends on the CM you speak with .... I know that on some calls I was asked only for my phone #, while others would not proceed without my reservation # (this was mostly when I was doing 180+10)... I just used the AAA reservation # and that was sufficient :thumbsup2

You should not be able to combine the AAA room discount with free dining. Disney does not allow stacking of discounts.

You could apply an AAA package discount to a package including the paid dining plan.
