AA skly miles in First Class = No bag fees

Hi All,

Booked travel with AA. Got econo on the way down, but had to go first class on the way back. Total ticket was 37,500 miles. I called AA and they said first class don't pay any bagage fees. Not to bad, since I will have more MM stuff on the way back!!!!!

Yes, elites and/or those paying premium fares and/or flying in premium cabins are exempt from bag fees on most carriers which do charge a bag fee in America. It makes sense for airlines to reward their most loyal and most valuable customers by not charging them the fee.

It's always a good idea to check first class availability. I've been using my USAir miles for my trips to Disneyland (PIT-SNA or LAX). Last September, coach was 50,000 miles (no saver awards available), first class was 50,000 miles also (saver available).

This is more true then ever as many companies have cut back on travel, reducing the already limited demand for domestic first class and increasing it in coach (although overall travel is still lower as well). With less demand for paying customers in first class, tickets don't tend to sell out as quickly and thus the opportunities for seats being available in lower fare buckets for both reward and cash basis is greater.

yes, it's been very nice being elite on AA this year and last. No bag fees (and it's hard for me to pack carryon only going to the cold weather of Alaska), and chances for upgrades.

I am flying AA first class for the first time in April. 50,000 miles using a miles saver award. I could have flown coach there and first back for the 37500 miles, but opted for first both ways. No baggage fees and a chance to try out first class two ways!

AA actually serves decent food in First Class, something which most airlines have done away with, even on some short hops. Plus for those using AA miles to fly to Orlando, do yourself a favor and if you must make a connection, try to find a way to get yourself on a 767-300 or 777-200, which are used on a number of domestic flights from Miami: they have beds in First Class.
