A YOU Worth Fighting For | January 2016 Weight Loss & Better Living Challenge

Made a yummy snack today that I thought I would share.

I filled celery sticks with laughing cow cheese, and wrapped them in cold cuts. It was a great way to add crunch to a low carb snack!

That does sound yummy! My WW leader suggested a similar snack that I love - wrapping a slice of deli turkey around a pickle. Little protein, little crunch - yum!

OK, so I weighed in after the holiday craziness at 143.6 - and I'm down to 142.6 as of today! I saw 142.2 at some point this week, but I'm happy at 50% of my goal - wow!

Now, work starts tomorrow, so we'll see how I do when it's back to reality for me. I actually think that will help though - more schedule, more predictability, and less incentive to laze about the house and do nothing :P

Didn't sleep much last night since our booking window opened up for our cruise :) Running around with my sons hockey team all day and actually have manage to still make good eating choices. It is suppose to be minus 18 tomorrow here. Ugg I won't be walking outside in that! May join the seniors around here and do some mall walking.

I think I want to join this wonderful group!! I've been thinking about joining this group since I saw it last week, and now I'm going to finally take the plunge and join!! I don't want to put my weight, but I have some specific goals in mind. I'm going to track my calories via My Fitness Pal and try and work out here and there (I hate exercise!! ;) ). I'm going to try and focus on a healthy diet for now and will, eventually, down the line try and incorporate some fitness and exercise.

Thanks for creating this great thread!! Very creative and really well done! I'm excited to see everyone's progress and support!! :) I don't know how often I'm going to be able to log in and read everything here but will try my best!

Ooooh! And my birthday is a couple days away on January 14th!! WOOP!! WOOP!! ;)

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME!! So glad to have you joining us! Absolutely NO NEED to post a weight here... not required. Just go ahead and read page one and then give us a brief intro so we can learn more about you..... and then feel free to jump into the chatter! It is easiest to start by answering the QOTD........P

Morning friends! I overslept by an HOUR this morning (forgot to turn my alarm on..... very unusual for me), so no time to get online this morning before I dashed out the door. I'm in training this morning but hoping to be excused a bit early to go home! I don't see a QOTD yet for today, so perhaps our friend is sleeping in a bit as well! :P ..................P

yes, yes, yes, I was! I'm so sorry! I usually get up and do the QOTD when DH leaves for work, but the cold got me today, haha. DPup and I were much more concerned with staying under the covers where it was warm that I barely realized he left, or that I'd slept through the alarms I'd set for the rest of the morning. :faint: But I am here now! Lots of catching up here to do and then lots of decals and things to crank out today. I've got a webinar to watch at 1pm CST today, so I'll be in and out here a lot! :surfweb: But, in the meantime...

QOTD for January 11, 2016

I am foregoing today's "Mulan" themed QOTD to take a moment to acknowledge a real loss in the world today. While I am not myself a David Bowie fan in that I have all of his albums, have seen him perform, or have his face on a t-shirt, I have always loved and had great respect for him, ever since I was very small and saw him in Labyrinth, back when it would play almost non-stop on the Disney Channel. Last night, he lost an 18-month battle with cancer that few people knew he had.

I love this quote, and I feel like it's relevant to us on our weight-loss journey. Everyone here has made the steps to living better, and it won't be boring from here on. It's going to be hard, and it's going to be interesting and eye-opening and you're going to want to give up along the way (probably so many times!), and it's going to seem like you have no idea where you are or what you're doing. But it won't be boring.

Were you/are you a fan of his? Do you have a favorite David Bowie song, movie, or quote?

I'll post my official percent tomorrow (since I need to get in on more workout to reach this weeks goal!), but I was SOOO pleased to weigh this morning to see that I had gone down 0.2 lbs even though I have been eating not so well with mom around! Getting moving is working-- I just have to keep it up. Our first Blue Apron came yesterday and so I get to try that tonight! Between that and more moving, I'm feeling optimistic--- even if there is a cake in my near future!

How did you like yur blue Apron meal?!

So it is raining and grey outside today. My husband said go to the gym and use the treadmill. I got there and had forgot my membership card and lock at home. I think it was my subconscious working. I hate going to the gym! So I drove back home and went for a damp walk for 3.8k. :)

18.3k/60k = 30.5%

Proud of you for muscling through your walk despite the cold and damp AND turning back from the gym! Haha, that would've been the moment I told myself that I just wasn't supposed to work out that day, lol.

Work was bad today. I got called in early, found out I didn't have enough hours and had to stay late. Then I didn't take a break till 8 hours into my day. I worked off of half a cup of coffee and a banana. So much for health. I had to whip together something quick for dinner just to get calories in. I used juice for extra calories too. Normally I'd just graze and eat everything and go so far over on calories so at least I kept it under control.

So sorry you had a tough workday, but congratulations on keeping dinner under control and not just throwing in the towel for the day!! Good for you!! Those seemingly "little" choices add up quickly!

"Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!" (Now you gotta watch to hear Eddie Murphy saying that). Mulan is my youngest DD one of her favs, at 19 still pulls it out to watch! Lol last fathers days she signed her dads card "love you, you bring honor to us all" :)

This was my thought, too!

If you haven't seen Mulan, it's on Netflix - check it out if you can! I watched it one day last week for the first time in a long time and I had forgotten how good it was! Everyone says Frozen is the first movie where the girl didn't have to be saved by the guy... UMMMM. Mulan did it a decade earlier and with less annoying music. Haha.

If can be frustrating, I'm with you a lot! I lose very slowly.....keep on the course your body will catch up!

I like night parades, not much a fan of the daytime ones. My favorite is the Halloween, but i also love electrical light

Spent the day scrapbooking with my friends, didn't food journal and had a couple drinks. Hope I didn't ruin my future loss for this coming week. I did complete my workout schedule for week one of my 8 week program and i have been sore in muscles I forgot I had!

Boo to You is my favorite, too!! We missed it on our trip in October but I've made DH watch it on YouTube many times to make up for it, haha.

Good luck - I hope work doesn't throw a wrench in your progress!!

Welcome, welcome!!! We are thrilled to have you with us!! Jump right in, tell us a little about yourself, answer some QOTD's, and start getting to know us a little! We have a wonderful group here and I hope that you will find the support you need! No need to tell us your weight, just let us know what your goal for the month is and share your progress with us every weekend, or whenever you can! And HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!!

Considering this "caught up" for the time being. Happy Monday to everyone! Anyone playing the Powerball this week? Haha.

I have to say that I am not a David Bowie fan and don't have a song, movie or quote that relates to this topic of the day. Sorry! :(

On Friday we're driving from Southern California to Phoenix for the first of 21 HMs this year. I'm terrified of the HM, mostly due to distance and this being my 1st HM. The 5K is such a quick race and the HM is just a little more than 4 5K races. I'm using the next four days to hydrate hydrate hydrate!

I thought he was great. I remember when Dancing in the streets came out I watched that video so many times. I also watch Labyrinth and thought it was really creepy but I was quite young then. I also like Let's dance. He was a very mysterious person and think that is why I liked him.

It is minus 18 with the wind today so I dragged myself to use the dreadmill at the gym and did 3.6k.

21.9k/40k

Sorry for the off-topic QOTD! We'll be back on track tomorrow. I hope no one feels alienated with the David Bowie-related post. I can do a different QOTD for today if everyone would rather!

Good luck with your first race!! So excited for you and proud of you for taking this on! Drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water! You got this!!

Off-topic - my tracking shows your dish was delivered! Was everything ok with it? Shoot me a PM or email if you'd rather!

You are doing an amazing job with your goal for this month!! Over 50% of the way there! Will you keep going with your walking once you've hit your 40k for the month?

I grew up on Labyrenth. So that's easily number one, and my dad listened to his music so I did too.

As far as the QOTD goes I'm trying to make things not boring. A lot of the time I feel pretty stagnent. I am looking to be out of the north east this time next year so we'll see. Fingers crossed.

I ate two cookies and some chips and my stomach is very very angry. I guess I got to the point where I can't eat junk anymore so that's good.

It was AWESOME! I was seriously impressed. And not just because it tasted good (because it did!) but also I was impressed that they balanced it. Example-- it was a hamburger which I don't consider particularly healthy, but you had sauteed onions for it and also made a garlic sauce to use instead of ketchup and then the side was this super carrot-y salad with a vinaigrette. I don't know the exact calorie breakdown, but I was glad that even though I did have a hamburger, I wasn't craving the "red sugar" for it and we had a huge almost no point salad. There was so much salad, we couldn't eat it all and so I had lunch the next day. But I will say, I don't know who they are kidding with these "30 minute prep times." DH and I easily took an hour to an hour and a half.... it could be because we don't know what we are doing yet though ("wait--- you cut this like a what?!"). Anyway, still better than anything I throw together! haha!

I was a HUGE Bowie fan in college.... I think my age group is probably pretty much the younger end of his target audience. I had an opportunity to see him during his Serious Moonlight tour, but had to pass as I was a broke college student without the funds for the ticket that was offered to me.... it made me sad then and makes me even sadder now. As they were playing some of his music this morning (on the tv) while talking about his passing, it brought to mind so many of his great songs that I haven't thought about in years! ..............P

Does anyone else take advantage of Dance Party breaks during the work day?

I had a moment where I needed to throw on some Lady Gaga and just dance out my frustrations. :rotfl2:

That is my life. We also sing to each other frequently. A few of us have a lot of fun. We try and make salsa Sunday a thing till one coworker pouts for other music.

It was so slow today. I spent half my day looking up dvc and packagw prices for dark side in April and the other half dancing/singing. And a tiny bit of time making money haha.

I loved the movie Labyrinth when I was a teenager. Strange but really good. Favorite David Bowie has to be the Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth Christmas carol he did with Bing Crosby. Now that is a strange duo LOL

Today is a lazy day after working all weekend. I am always worn out and feet hurt. I cannot even begin to find energy to workout today. I did good just rolling out of bed after just 4 hours of sleep. Lil princess's bedtime can't come soon enough. I will get back to normal tomorrow.
