A YOU Worth Fighting For | January 2016 Weight Loss & Better Living Challenge

Hi! I know I'm clearly late to this thread, but I'd love to join! I just started my healthy lifestyle journey about a week ago and have lost 7 lbs just by diet. I plan to incorporate exercise soon as I just got my membership to Planet Fitness! Would it just be easiest for me to start the February challenge? I'm not sure where to start with this but I love this motivational thread! HELP! princess:

WTG on the 7lbs. Jump in on here and join the February challenge :) This group has been great and I am so happy they are all here.

@courtneybeth are you doing any of the RnR full marathons? I'm kind of starting to consider going down to Georgia in November and doing that full. I kind of want to do a full this fall, and don't really like any local ones. I'll have to see where I am post Tink though.

So ... checking in with a whopping 0%.
Basically ... since I got back from Florida, I've been very "off." I've been eating too much and not sticking to meal plans, I haven't really been exercising (other than a few runs and one hour-long treadmill walk), and as a result, the weight I lost in Florida has come back ... and then some.
The frustrating thing is that I know what I'm doing wrong and I wake up every day knowing I have to do better (and knowing what I have to do to do better), and then I don't. I really need to figure out how to get myself out of this downward spiral. Like ASAP.

If you want a 5k buddy let me know! I'm in MA and would have no issues going into CT to do a 5K to help support you. I'm not super fast but I get it done haha. If you want a person to talk to about stuff you can always PM me too we're in pretty similar situations and such.

To sign up for a Disney race I'd 100% recommend being at your computer and ready when they go on sale. You can go through different Travel Agents though most will have you book your hotel and tickets through them though.

OMG! This is perfect timing. I decided to make my goals known at work. I have heard so many people say that making them public holds you accountable, so I figured I would tell my friends at work. Well, that didn't go well. Everyone was teasing/making fun of me. They said there is no way I would be able to do a 5k or 10K this year. I held it together at work but as soon as I got in the car I started crying. Why do people have to be so cruel. Would it kill someone to say, "That would be awesome. We are rooting for you!"

I tried to PM you but it didn't work. Maybe because I don't have enough posts???

I am not sure if I am ready to run in front of people yet but I maybe in the future I will take you up on that. And I did go out for a walk today. I walked 2 miles and it took me just under 30:00 so you CAN'T possibly be slower than me. I wonder if I will even be able to keep up with you. Haven't you done a 1/2 marathon or am I confusing you with someone else?

Oh, and I am pretty sure I will be doing a Disney race now. I have to prove my co-workers (who I thought were my friends) wrong. What better place to do it than Disney. I just need to figure out which is the best race for me to do now.

Hey all! Happy Sunday..... no church for us today (not due to weather, just laziness on our part), but someone in the house needs to go to Costco at some point today to pick up a birthday cake for DS. We are doing a birthday celebration with the robotics team tomorrow night and despite EVERYTHING I offered to make (homemade ice cream cake, cake pops, cookies, taco bar, his favorite soup, baked potato bar), he has requested (drum roll please)..........a Costco chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and pizza from our local place! o_O Well..... it won't be really cheap OR really healthy, but it certainly is easy! I had set today aside as a baking/cooking day, but I guess I don't need it!

I am trying to convince DH that he "wants" to go to Costco before football starts, but he hasn't taken the bait. It looks like it will be me. NBD, but it is an hour drive each way and since it is the end of the month I don't have any extra money to buy anything else!

Just wanting to report that I did do another weigh-in on Saturday and it was definitely better, so I am reporting that as of today I am at (approximately) 115% of goal for January! It's been a LONG TIME since I've gone over a monthly goal!

Time to move along with my day (and the laundry and dishes!)...............P

115% of your goal is AWESOME. So excited for you! Keep up the good work.

Welcome from one fellow newbie to another. I was wondering how it works too. Do we keep going on this thread or start a new one for February?

Only a little difference this week. I am at 82% for jan as of last ck in. I have to say I feel like reading the WISH threads really helps me make better choices. Some of you guys are really doing great, both with loses and maintaining. i think there is hope for me yet!

I think you just might need a step back and to remind yourself why you started this journey and get some footing again. I know how you feel though. The last four days I've felt completely lost in all this I'm giving myself today then I need to just suck it up and put my head down and get back at it.

Welcome from one fellow newbie to another. I was wondering how it works too. Do we keep going on this thread or start a new one for February?

We do start a new thread every month. We have a different host and different themes.

Yeah I don't think you have enough posts! Go forth and post! Haha. People can be awful. I have those that root for me to fail. We all have people in our lives that are going to be negative. You just have to go for it, and do it for you. And yes I went to run a half at W&D and will actually be doing one in about a month because W&D was cut short. That doesn't mean I'm fast though haha. It just means I built up my endurance. It's mostly mind over body anyway.

Depends on Disney Races you want to do. There is still a sign up for two race weekends in Disneyland and Wine and Dine in November in Disney World. If not doing something local this year and one of the other Disney races next year would be great.

Welcome from one fellow newbie to another. I was wondering how it works too. Do we keep going on this thread or start a new one for February?

There will be an all-new thread with an all-new theme and all-new host starting up in February! @courtneybeth has graciously volunteered to host in February, so I am betting she will be working on that thread this week and getting it posted so we can claim spots over there before we flip the calendar. If I remember correctly, she said it would be Wreck-It-Ralph themed? DH and I still need to watch that movie, so maybe we'll finally get around to it! Can you all believe this is the last week of January?? 2016 is already moving along at a solid pace!

SO happy that it doesn't look like anyone - yet - is stuck under feet and feet of snow! We woke up to about an inch of snow on our back deck - definitely not the BLIZZARD all our news stations were telling us to prepare for. It was all mostly gone today except for some on the eaves of the houses, but now that we're at 50 degrees, even that is gone. If you have any, please post pictures of the snow in your area! I'd love to see it!

Seeing some great numbers in the progress reports this week! I am about to start going back through the last few pages and writing down everyone's progress, so if you haven't reported yet, let me know ASAP! I'll get the numbers posted around 8p CST tonight. Tomorrow we enter the LAST WEEK OF JANUARY! WOW. Wow. I know I need to get my butt in gear, definitely. We just set some big personal goals/plans for 2017 and I don't want to be scrambling at the last minute like I did last year.

Welcome, welcome! I'm so glad you found us! Please hang around and be a part of the discussion this week and answer the upcoming QOTD's - we'd love to get to know you and have you get to know all of us! @courtneybeth is our host for next month and she will be getting the February thread up and running between now and Feb. 1 - a link will be shared in this thread once it's operational so we can all find it easily, so keep an eye out! If you'd like to set a goal for yourself for this week you are totally welcome to do so! Congrats on your 7lb loss - that's amazing! Can't wait to get to know you and see where you go from here!

OMG! I woke up with a rash yesterday but made it through the day without taking anything. Today I woke up and had to take something or I would rip my neck open from itching. I have been a space case all day and just want to eat from it. I am so grumpy. I can't wait to feel normal again. I don't care how itchy I am tomorrow I will not be taking anything for it.

Never too late! Welcome! It definitely sounds like you have a solid plan, considering the 7 pounds already gone FOREVER! Don't step back until February.... jump in now and let us get to know you!

What does "off" look like to you? Not tracking? Not meal planning? And give yourself a HUGE "atta boy" for the runs and TM time.... obviously you aren't TOTALLY off or you wouldn't be exercising and you wouldn't be here looking for support, right? Think about a PLAN for this week..... what is one SOLID STEP you could take to get back "on"? Take the one step and RUN with it!

I am SO sorry that you were not support at work when you shared something important. Those are definitely NOT the people you need by your side right now..... but we are!! :thumbsup2 And put aside the notion of "running in front of people"...... those that matter don't care, and those that care DON'T MATTER! Remember, the slowest walker/runner is STILL lapping everyone that is on the sofa!

No blizzard pictures here from us in New Hampshire, thank heavens! But I'm sure we'll get our share, sooner or later. It has been a remarkably snow-less winter so far with just a few inches here and there. I'm NOT complaining!

Hey friends! DS was MORE than happy to have a chocolate cake from the local market (one of them makes REALLY good cakes and that is where we always used to buy our cakes before Costco) so I did NOT need to drive an hour each way! It was still 35 minutes, but it felt quick! (That is our closest grocery store.) I pulled money out of a secret pocket and was able to get carrots, onions, milk, and apples that will help us make it a few more days until the paycheck comes through (birthday supplies came from the birthday envelope, thankfully!). I hate having to pull from savings for basics like groceries, but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes!

I forgot to mention that I applied for and was offered a new position with WW (in addition to my meetings)..... I will soon be a fully trained 24/7 Expert Chat coach! I had an interview about two weeks ago and just completed the first half of my training. If all goes well I should be fully trained within about 10 more days (not sure how long both of the next sessions take). So those of you who are WW and have E-tools or are WW online members, if you "click to chat" you could "chat" with me soon!

Off to figure out what I'm having for dinner..... men are splurging on pizza and nachos because of the football game. I need to put something HEALTHY in my belly because pizza and nachos is sounding pretty delicious right now!..................P

I'm SO sorry to hear this..... that sounds incredibly uncomfortable. Do you know what is causing the rash? Do you have something to take and/or apply to help you feel better? How about a cup of hot tea? I find that very soothing (especially something like chamomile or peppermint) when I am not feeling well. How about an oatmeal bath to soothe the rash? I'll be praying for you................P

Hey everyone! Thanks to all the members of this post for making me feel welcome to jump in! My name is Kaitlin and I am 25, live in very cold Wisconsin. I have always struggled with my weight but I'm ready to get it gone for good! I am currently on MFP, my name is the same as on here, chasingthatdream08, please feel free to add me! We have a trip planned for December and I just want to be in shape enough that my feet aren't killing me at the end of the day and my thighs aren't chaffing per usual. I'm not looking to get totally ripped, just enough so that I can comfortably walk around in shorts for summer/WDW trips! So far I'm just one week in and have lost 7 lbs by just watching what I eat and following the 1200 calories that MFP gives me, I plan on adding in exercise shortly. My goal for the end of this week would be to lose an additional 4 lbs.

We got about two feet. We're mostly shoveled out - we've only got access to one of the two cars right now, but since my dad is off from work this week, we really only need one car.
My parents were supposed to be headed to Dallas right now, but their flight got cancelled, and between not knowing when they would get another flight and the hassle of rescheduling, they decided to just cancel their trip. I feel bad for them, but considering the situation, I think they made the right decision.

I think the problem is that I just don't care. I start off okay, but then go completely off the rails, and that doesn't seem to bother me. I'm eating whatever I want, not tracking, and not really exercising much. I think the only reason I'm running is because it's something that I've been doing 3 times a week for 6 months now, so that's a habit that I'm not used to breaking. Doesn't stop me from eating all the calories I just burned as soon as I get home.
I think I'm going to try to start by tracking tomorrow's breakfast and lunch before I go to sleep tonight. I already know what I'm having (toast with PB and veggie burger), and hopefully if I track it tonight, I'll actually stick to plan tomorrow and not feel a need to eat many things that are not in my meal plan.
We'll see...

Welcome!! I totally get what you're saying about being in shape for a Disney trip ... it's so frustrating when you're trying to enjoy your happy place but you're in too much pain! You seem to be doing great so far, and hopefully adding in the exercise you'll be even better.
Do you know what exercises you want to start adding in? Are you sticking with one thing you really like or trying a variety of exercises?

Do you know what exercises you want to start adding in? Are you sticking with one thing you really like or trying a variety of exercises?

I plan on doing heavy cardio and some light weight lifting. Previously I've done 30-45 mins on the Arc trainer at the gym and then some arm and leg weights. Nothing too crazy!

Thanks. I don't have a bathtub that is any good for baths :( I will have my tea soon. I hate feeling this out of it. No more meds for me. Benadryl has messed me up for the whole day. I tried cortizone cream but it didn't do anything. I have no idea why I got it. No new soaps or food. Hope i wake up back to normal tomorrow.

@courtneybeth are you doing any of the RnR full marathons? I'm kind of starting to consider going down to Georgia in November and doing that full. I kind of want to do a full this fall, and don't really like any local ones. I'll have to see where I am post Tink though.

While the swanky jacket is tempting, the full marathon is a bit overwhelming at this point. However... RNR Savannah was the one I was maybe considering upgrading to as I get more comfortable with my pace and endurance through this process. I have the RNR tourpass so I can upgrade at any time if I want without losing any registrations/money. So ... long story short... maybe? At this point (and it being only January), I'm doing the half. But it could change as I get more comfortable.

YOU SHOULD TOTALLY DO IT. And we can share a celebratory chocolate milk and power bar at the finish line area as we listen to some 90s band come out and perform. By the time you finish your full marathon I'll be finishing my half ;)

And the same goes to everyone else in this thread. I'm hitting all of the USA and Canada RNR events and would love to see you at the 5K, 10K or halfs! :D

@SarahDisney That picture is absolutely gorgeous. I know everyone is miserable in the snow right now but I can't help but feel envious you all get snow in winter and we get... jeans and short sleeves? :(

Cheer up with the minor set backs. We're both at 0% this week but we will rock it next week and finish strong!

You know what's awesome about running with other people in a race? They're so focused on their own strategy and finish times that they're not even looking at anyone else :) Walking at a 15 mile minute pace is fast enough for disney. You got this!

Oh, and I am pretty sure I will be doing a Disney race now. I have to prove my co-workers (who I thought were my friends) wrong. What better place to do it than Disney. I just need to figure out which is the best race for me to do now.

I can't speak for the Florida races, but I can speak for Disneyland and they're pretty effing awesome! Our hotels are near the starting line and the course is flat. Plus... the weather isn't humid or randomly raining (I'm looking at you Wine and Dine in November) :)

The Disneyland themed RunDisney event is over labor day and I'd probably pass on that. Labor Day is a really busy weekend for us since all of the kids go back to school the next week and it's the hottest weekend of the summer. It's just a bit crazy and we tend to stay away from that.

The race you should look into is the Avengers Super Hero 5K or 10K run. It's in November, which is the perfect weather here in Anaheim. It's slightly chilly but not cold enough you're uncomfortable and you won't overheat as you do the course. Plus, you'll be your own superhero for finishing! :)

We'll be signing up for the 10K (I think it was called the Captain America race last year). We're always looking for new friends to hang with us in the corrals or share a cake pop with post-race. I encourage you to look deep inside and find what works best for you. Only you can decide what will be best. I am pacing around a 14 minute mile - not fast at all but enjoy the process of improving myself and what I can accomplish with perseverance and patience.
