A YOU Worth Fighting For | January 2016 Weight Loss & Better Living Challenge

I am so not a breakfast person. The only time I enjoy breakfast is when I go out for breakfast which is only on vacation so like twice a year :) I do make myself have something. I have banana oatmeal muffins in the freezer for a quick backup to grab if I don't feel/have time for anything else. I do like steel cut oats but they take so long to cook and I have to have some brown sugar in it which makes it not so low calorie since oatmeal has enough on it's own.

I agree that brown sugar is wonderful on oatmeal, but honestly, if I add some fruit and just a few drops of stevia, I find the oatmeal sweet enough and very enjoyable! You could try bumping down the amount of sweetness you add gradually until you find an acceptable level and you may discover that just a tsp. of brown sugar is enough!

Hi There! Is it too late to join a group like this? I am on Disboards often and came across you guys this morning. I had decided last night that I have reached an all time low and need desperately to lose weight for my health's sake.

Never, never, NEVER too late! Welcome! Check out page one for the details, take a minute to tell us more about you, and then hop right into the chatter! I suggest starting with the QOTD!

I'm big on breakfast!! I used to eat a bagel every day. Now I eat protein based breakfast. Eggs with ham or turkey. Very filling. Here's a recipe that I have been using to make ham muffin cups - Ithink I mentinoed them earlier. Making a batch tonight!

Those sound great and I should make some and keep them on hand for DH. As a low carb eater, a quick and portable breakfast is usually the most difficult thing for him.... and he is NOT a planner. Thankfully he works from home 90% of the time, but these would be great for those mornings when he is heading out and running late!

I tend to skip breakfast during the week. I get up with just enough time to get daughter dressed for school and hopefully have a cup of coffee. By the time I get around to eating first meal it is generally almost lunch time. If I do have breakfast I usually want protein of some sort. I am backwards LOL I like hot cereals at night. Malt of Meal is my favorite. They don't sell it in my area so my brother sent me a bunch of boxes for my birthday last month LOL

I love oatmeal any time! Sometime I make a double batch for breakfast and have the leftovers at lunch! Isn't malt o'meal hot cereal just essentially cream of wheat? Maybe I'm not thinking of the right thing. I'm not that familiar with it. Is it presweetened?

Okay..... I decided to scrub my kitchen floor by hand because I cannot seem to get the crud out of the textured areas any other way. I scrubbed (on my hands and knees with a scrubbrush and rag) for over an hour, did about 1/2 of the kitchen..... but of course I still have the other half, the entire hall, and I probably should do the downstairs bathroom as well (they all connect)! My hands, arms, and shoulders are actually trembling from the effort. And the sad thing is that it doesn't look that much better without a close look! Grrrr...... but at least it is an upper body workout! So I took a coffee break to waste some time on Facebook and hop over here to say hello! So...... HELLO!!! Back to the floor so I can finish it before lunch!................P

Do you say breakfast every day, or are you more likely to skip it? What are your favorite/go-to breakfast foods? If you usually skip, are you going to make more of an effort to work breakfast into your routine?

I'm not a fan of breakfast foods (at least not healthy ones) but with that said I do eat breakfast daily because I'm way too hungry to skip. Right now I'm eating Think Thin protein bars but they're so dang expensive that I probably won't be continuing that for much longer. I eat eggs a lot and sometimes oatmeal too. For a while my routine was 2 plain rice cakes with 1/2 tbsp of pb on each and then usually a 1/2 tbsp of mini chocolate chips or strawberry jam but it wasn't very filling.

I know another person who doesn't care for breakfast foods so her breakfast choices are always rather unconventional..... chicken noodle soup or a ham sandwich are two that come to mind. How about planning a lunch or dinner with leftovers SPECIFICALLY to have for breakfast the next day? I've even had veggie burgers for breakfast when the fridge was bare!..........P

We've all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it's true! It gets your metabolism going, and sets you up for success for the rest of the day. But it's also the most often skipped meal, mainly due to time constraints.

Do you say breakfast every day, or are you more likely to skip it? What are your favorite/go-to breakfast foods? If you usually skip, are you going to make more of an effort to work breakfast into your routine?

i do breakfast usually 5 out of 7 days. The days I don't do breakfast are those where I do heavier lunches and/or dinners.

It's my part of the morning when I bond with my bowl of Cheerios and enjoy the peace for about 5 mins before heading to work.

Well that's a good idea. I've never thought of that before! I guess I'm a creature of habit so I feel out of place for having non-breakfast food for breakfast. But if I'm going to eat something then it should be something that I actually like, right? Not just breakfast food for the sake of it being breakfast!

OMG I love breakfast and would eat it all day every day if I thought my family would let me.. I love eggs - most ways, not browned or rubbery though , a gooey yolk is great for dunking toast in.. MMM oatmeal mixed with apple and bit of brown sugar, cereal, home fries, hash browns, English muffins with banana and PB, omelettes, French toast, pancakes , crepes, muffins, egg sandwiches. LOL oh the list goes on and on waffles!.. however I do work from 6am to 2:45 so I must make my bag the night before and usually I do a volume cook on Sunday - eggs, muffins, English muffins in baggies that type of thing for the week, so the night before I can just grab and stash in my lunchbox as I am packing it so I don't waste money here in our Café (which my Hubs works in so I feel like I am spending his paycheck when I do buy anything there!) On The weekends we tend to sleep in - haaaa like to 8 --- have a later breakfast then just eat and earlier dinner with maybe a snack in between..

So today we had our open house at work for WW, I guess the at work sessions are changing .. so depending on how many people are signed up and PAID on week one will determine how many weeks our session will last and it all cost the same no matter.. so if we have 12 people we get 12 weeks but if we get up to 13-16 the we get 16 weeks and if we 20+ people we get 20 weeks for our same payment, so we had 14 paying people today and 1 maybe for $112.00 I would love to see 20+ of course that means I would only be 5.60 per meeting vs. 9.33 .. If it was a different day I'd have my daughter come sign up but she works from 8-8 on Thursdays so it won't work and of course it's right in the middle of lunch service so I can't have my hubs sign up either because on top of being paid you need to weight in on week one and our meeting is right in the middle of lunch service for him.. but we'll see what happens..

I hate breakfast. And it's not the foods its that I'm just not hungry yet. I often force myself to eat. Lately I've been grabbing a banana and calling it breakfast.

You can eat "normal" food for breakfast. I've had chicken for breakfast plenty of times. I dont always want to blow calories on stuff I don't like eating.

Eggs are my main source of protein. I LOVE eggs.

I couldn't take sitting on the couch any more so I sucked it up and jumped on the treadmill in a strange burst of dedication LOL. I'm 18 minutes in, though, and bored out of my mind. Anyone around to chat? I'm reading through TPAS threads trying to keep my mind off the clock on the treadmill (and thus avoiding the "20 minutes isn't 30 minutes but it's close and it's better than nothing so it's totally ok to stop now" rationalizing) but it's slow there and just making me want to go to Disney haha

I am trying so hard to be better at having breakfast! I bought some Greek yogurts that I bring with me to eat at my desk. My problem is I am not hungry when I wake up. It takes me an hour or so to get my stomach even interested in food. That could have been the heavy dinners weighing on my stomach from my previous eating habits that I shall be improving here shortly (my Southern Mamma is here and insisting on cooking us dinner twice a week and I feel bad turning down her cooking, but it is totally derailing this week-- yes just those two days! I feel it! Which must be good news that my body is acclimating to my cleaner eating, but I digress....). Anyway, I feel like when I eat cleaner or lighter dinners I am ready for breakfast so that's what I am working on.

(and thus avoiding the "20 minutes isn't 30 minutes but it's close and it's better than nothing so it's totally ok to stop now" rationalizing)

:rotfl2:This is sooooooo me!!!! I have now started streaming episodes of shows that are definitely 30 minutes and telling myself I have to finish the episode before I can get off! Haha!

I find the treadmill so hard also. Not going anywhere or nothing to look at makes it seem so much longer. Good for you for just doing it no matter how boring it is :)

Treadmill is boring you gota get outside!

It's cold and raining or I would've taken my dog for a walk today. I don't enjoy being on the treadmill (too ADD for it lol) and have better luck walking outside because at least that way, when I get tired halfway through, I have no choice but to keep going because if I don't I'm just stuck outside somewhere.:rotfl: I couldn't put either one of us through that today, though, haha. I made it 1.56 miles, though. It's not much but it's a start! Supposedly it'll be sunny and 65 tomorrow so we might try a lap around the block! We've figured out a route that is a little more than a mile total with no backtracking, which pleases my OCD.

I haven't done a proper catch-up yet because I'm not on my computer and it's too hard to do multi-quotes from my phone. But I just wanted to say - does anyone else think the show "My Diet is Better Than Yours" is a bad idea? People will compete and compare diets to see what diet out there is the definitive "best" and if you don't like your results you can change diets after a week? Bodies don't respond the same way to the same things! A diet that works for one person won't work the same for someone else necessarily. I just feel like it's asking for trouble, and people who do t know better will get upset that they can't get the same results from whichever ends up as "the best".

Ok, soapbox over. Lol

There is a chocolate version, a maple and brown sugar, and a plain. I have the chocolate and the plain. I like the taste of the maple so I got some sugar free maple syrup and use that to sweeten it with.

OK I did pretty good today. I didn't overeat (yeah) and I made a healthy dinner for my lil princess that she loved LOL so I feel like a good mommy. btw it was baked chicken with carrot and celery sticks and yogurt for dessert. I also did the dreaded measurements so that I had something tangible besides the scale to use for progress throughout the year. I remember the one time I did have a personal trainer and was hitting gym every day and being good diet wise, the scale didn't budge for almost a month. The trainer and I were both frustrated until he took my measurements and compared them to beginning ones and I had lost 14 inches overall. So even when the scale doesn't show it, measurements might tell a different story.

tomorrow is reporting day?

You can report any day Friday - Sunday! Be sure you give your results as a percentage (example: if you wanted to lose 4lbs, and you've lost 2lbs, you're at 50% for the month) so they can be added to the chart! Great job on a successful day!

Okay okay I guess if it's bad weather that's okay. I used to live for the treadmill! I would also kill for it to be 65 out.

I agree. I side eyed the whole idea when I first say it. It's basically lets throw people on fad diets and see what happens. It's all about money and that's kind of disgusting. Unless there is some kind of twist where a person just calorie counts and eats in moderation and they win. I'm sure there will be episodes where people have binged because of how restrictive some diets are and they'll be made out to be failures.

It's just a bad idea.

It's fun to incorporate a little "Disney" into your exercise! A couple of months before leaving for Disney, I start walking with my kids. Over the years, I started making charts to give the kids rewards for walking. The last couple of years, I planned it out and got more creative than ever with it. First, the kids and I figured out how many miles it was from our house to Disney. For every mile we walked, I said it would count as 10 miles. With those as the rules, we “walked to Disney” in the 2 months and a week before our trip. I blogged all about how we did this here https://aleasalbums.wordpress.com/2015/01/07/walking-to-disney/
