A wimp has a question about MK dessert parties when it’s “cold”.

Leaving NY for WDW because I’ve been too cold too long. I checked the ten day forecast and the high will be 70 on the day I’ve booked the MK fireworks party. If the high is going to be 70 I’m guessing low sixties by 7:30. I’m thinking about canceling because, I really really don’t like to be cold.

Any encouraging words?

Do you own a basic base layer? I’m guessing that maybe you’ve got that in your closet if you’re from NY. Pack it in your park bag, and it’ll come in clutch. I was at WDW in Nov when they had a nice little cold spell. My base layer under my spirit jersey was PERFECT during MVMCP. It made all the difference between freezing my buns off at the party or buying a jacket I didn’t love or actually need.

It’s been beautiful during the day and cool or cold at night. Once the sun starts going down, you can really feel the difference. My mom just recently got an AP. She’s always cold. She’s been wearing layers. It’s the wind that’s been making her feel more cold.

Tuesday we went to MK. She had on a sleeveless mock turtleneck, a sweater, a hoodie, and carried an all weather coat. Plus I had a folded blanket for her on her wheelchair. She was fine until around 6pm when she added wearing the all weather coat. The blanket wasn’t used.

Me, dh and ds were each wearing a short sleeve top and shorts. We were fine til 6:30 when we wished we had a sweatshirt or jacket with us. And we all decided to head to the car and go home.

If you plan accordingly with layers, you can be comfortable at the dessert party. Lugging around all the extras can be a pain. There are lockers in the park where you could store the extras until near party time.

If your trip is within the next 7 days, then your nights will be a little chilly. I would cancel if I could get my money back. Dessert parties are expensive.

Being cold at Disney with fireworks is way better than being cold at home doing yardwork or going the grocery store. Maybe if you frame it as "cold but fun" it will help?

Wear a coat? Suck it up? Not much else to say besides if you REALLY want to do it, you'll find a way.

That's the problem. Wimps aren't very good about sucking it up.

I used to go to WDW in early Feb when it was a tad cheaper -- bun freezing off weather to be sure. After three cold trips in a row I started going in March.

I'm definitely more like your mom, always cold. I blame it on my thyroid. I didn't think about the lockers, I would prefer that to carrying a winter jacket all day long. Thanks.

That's the way I'm leaning. I've been cold since October and last year's trip was perfect weather. Had to cancel last year due to medical issues, didn't think a dessert buffet was a good choice.

But then I read the comment below, so now I'm back on the fence.

Very, very true. I'm trying to figure out the time frame. Do I read that people wait an hour in line for a reservation they already have, then an hour to eat, 15 minutes of fireworks, walk and wait for the bus . . .

Cold but fun, cold but fun . . . keep repeating
