A Whole New World - My Solo TR (May 12-15)!

Great report :goodvibes having also just come back from my first ever solo trip (and a second one booked for next year) I know where you are coming from, it's such a liberating feeling isn't it being able to do exactly what you want when you want.

Awesome pics with the characters...where did you catch them all at once? I love the ToT too..we are going to have our 4 year-old ride this year..she is tall enough..she loves thrills, hopefully the "spooky atmosphere" will be ok for her.

Hey Jess!

Lovin' the trip report so far. It looks like you really had a great time!!!!!
Glad you made it over!!!

It was amazing!!! I'm also thinking about taking another solo next year....either in may or october for food and wine!

Love it that you got all those character pictures!!!:cool2:
It was fun!!! And my mom really loved all her autographs!

I hope your daughter loves ToT! I was terrified my first time and now I can't get enough! I caught all the characters in the Animation Building at Hollywood Studios....on most non-Fantasmic days, they have a bunch of random, somewhat rare characters out around 4:50pm. It's not really published anywhere so it's not very crowded. From what I hear, the characters are random and can change every day.

Thanks for the information...I have heard about the characters being near the animation building but nothing as detailed as your info. :cool1:

So, on day 3 my crazy sleeping patterns finally caught up with me. I snoozed my alarm and didn't wake up until 9am!! Oh no, not on EPCOT day! I threw on some clothes and headed to the bus....that's right, not even time for coffee today!

I knew that I needed to head over to Soarin asap, so I took a few walking pictures of the front topiaries and promised myself I would be back.
IMG_2047.jpg

IMG_2048.jpg

At Soarin, standby was ridiculous, and there were lines for FP. I, of course, picked the line where no one knew how to use the machine, one person had a family of 25's tickets, etc. About 15 minutes later I had my ticket to California, departure time 12:55.

I knew that next I wanted to try something new, so I headed to Innoventions. There were so many things I wanted to try here, but they all got forgotten about later in the day. Oh well, something new to try in December! I went right to
IMG_2049.jpg

It was fun, but not as great as I thought it would be. I did the most extreme one (can't remember what its called), but I thought that Cyberspace Mountain was actually more fun. Definitely something I would try again though.

After that I left Innoventions in search of more thrills. I headed over to Mission:Space, but they had a 30 minute line, and I knew I could do better than that later. I did take this cute pic though.
IMG_2053.jpg

I headed over to Test Track, 70 minute stand-by!, so I hopped in the single-rider line. Again, I did not have luck in single-rider lines this trip. We moved pretty quickly until we got to the viewing room. Then, they just shove about a hundred people in there and hope for the best. I watched Bill McKim go through his spiel about 4 times. We finally made it out on to the track for our test runs. Lots of fun as always.

At this point my FP window was opening up so I wandered around a little to waste some time, then grabbed one for Mission:Space.
IMG_2051.jpg

IMG_2052.jpg

Fast passes in hand, I headed back over to The Land. There was a short line for Living with the Land so I hopped on. I like this ride and I never get to go on because my brother hates it! My favorite part is all the green houses.
IMG_2055.jpg

IMG_2059.jpg

IMG_2056.jpg

IMG_2057.jpg

Then it was time for Soarin! Yay!! I grabbed another Soarin FP before I got in line, and it was a good thing, because by the time I came back around FP were gone!

I considered heading over to World Showcase at this point, but I still had a FP to use! It was pretty hot, so I stopped in at Club Cool, and got to see a stranger drink the Beverly!! It was awesome, and her face was priceless! :rotfl:

I wandered through the Butterfly garden and visited with some fairies!
IMG_2060.jpg

IMG_2063.jpg

IMG_2065.jpg

And a princess!
IMG_2067.jpg

Not sure if they ran out of time with this one, but kinda disappointing!

I headed over to Mission:Space and we successfully landed on Mars! It was close though....I was the one to put us into Hyper Sleep....I guess I was on with some newbies b/c they thought the ride was broken hahaha.

At that point, I couldn't wait any more!!! I had to get away from the crowds (the worst of my trip) and out of the sun! I needed margaritas and Grey Goose slushies and German beer! Off to eat and drink around the world! Also known as, how did I spend 9 hours in World Showcase!

Love that you got a picture of the Stitch topiary - I never saw him! :confused3

Love that you got a picture of the Stitch topiary - I never saw him! :confused3

He was so cute! Probably one of my favorites!!! It's so easy to miss stuff at EPCOT because its huge!!! I realized when I was reading other TR's that I missed all of the Lion King topiaries!!! Something to do next year on a solo perhaps? ;)

So when I last left you, it was time to head in to the peacefulness of the World Showcase. I never imagined that I would spend almost 9 hours there! :scared1:

I started in Mexico for two reasons....it was the closest country lol, and The Ditch!! I had read so much about this on the boards that I needed to try it out for myself. I strolled through the pavilion (beautiful, by the way) and did a little shopping. And then headed to the ditch. It was pretty crowded so I found a spot at the bar; I didnt really need a menu because I knew I wanted a blood orange margarita and the crab tostadas.
IMG_2069.jpg

The crab tostadas were out of this world, and I'm working on trying to recreate them at home. The margarita was also really good, but a word to the wise - this is a strong margarita, it took me three countries and a relaxing movie to recover!!! This may be why I don't have many pictures of my first few countries. I just remember talking to my mom on the phone and telling her I was drunk at Disney! oops! lol

Anyway, after Mexico comes Norway and there was only one thing I really wanted to do there - Kringla og Cafe! I'm not a big coconut fan so schoolbread was out....but I really wanted to try a cloudberry horn.
IMG_2070.jpg

This thing did not disappoint! It was wonderful and might be my new favorite snack at the World! I passed by Maelstrom, really because I didn't want to sit through the Norway movie at the end! hahaha

Next came China. I was really excited to see Reflections of China for two reasons: 1) I'd never seen it before, and 2) I needed a cool place to recover from my margarita. I honestly must have been a sight while waiting on the benches to go into the theater. And then I walked in and there was no seats!!! I almost walked right out, but decided that the floor would probably be an acceptable place to rest. A few other people were also comfortably resting, and about halfway through, I was feeling well enough to stand up and enjoy the 360 degree view. By the end, I had gotten my second wind and was good to go! After the movie, I wandered around looking at all the zodiac figurines and took some time to take some photopass pictures. Afterwards, I asked the photographer were to find Mulan, and she told me to turn around. Oh, there she is, pretty much right behind me! Hmmm...maybe I was still a little intoxicated. Anyway, I met Mulan and she was awesome! Here are some random, somewhat intoxicated pictures from China.

Then it was on to Germany. I stopped to check out the Snow White topiaries
IMG_2077.jpg

The real Snow White was nearby, but like every other time I saw her during the trip, her line was huge! I decided to pass her by. Here are some randoms in Germany.
IMG_2080.jpg

IMG_2081.jpg

IMG_2082.jpg

In Germany, I also decided to try the wine walk. For those of you who haven't done it, you get to try two samples of wine in Germany, Italy, and France. I love wine, so this sounded perfect!! I forgot to take a picture of my German wines, but they were both sweet white wines. They were both good, but the dryer of the two was a little better.
IMG_2083.jpg

I did a little shopping, convinced myself not to buy any candy, and then continued on to Italy! I normally don't really enjoy Italy that much, but the extra flowers added for the festival made it really beautiful. Here is a picture looking across the lagoon
IMG_2085.jpg

And a few of the pavilion
IMG_2084.jpg

IMG_2086.jpg

I continuted my wine walk here, and these were my two favorites of the trip. The white is a pinot grigio and it was really good, not too sweet just the way I like my wine. The red was a sparkling wine called Rosa Regale. I've heard alot about it on the Dis, and it didn't disappoint. It was awesome!! Italy definitely had the best wines of the day.
IMG_2087.jpg

Wines still in hand, I made my way to the American Adventure. I know alot of people love this pavilion, but I can't really get in to it. I've never seen the Voices of Liberty, and the last time I went to the show, my brother and I both fell asleep. Maybe one day I'll enjoy it, but not today. I also checked to see if there were any random characters out, but no luck. I took a few topiary pics of some faves, and then continued on.

IMG_2089.jpg

IMG_2090.jpg

So to recap....so far I've hit 6 countries
Food = crab tostadas, cloudberry horn
Drinks = killer margarita and four samples of wine
Summary = I'm feelin pretty good!!!

He was so cute! Probably one of my favorites!!! It's so easy to miss stuff at EPCOT because its huge!!! I realized when I was reading other TR's that I missed all of the Lion King topiaries!!! Something to do next year on a solo perhaps? ;)

I think that is why you should give yourself a couple of days in Epcot for this type of thing!
And hey - if you want company on your "solo trip" - you let me know! ;)

Hi there! I'm joining in :) I'd love to be able to go solo!

I'm originally from the Philly area too...Blue Bell, PA to be exact

Wow, can any of you see the pics now. I was able to see the pics yesterday and I came back on today and can't see any on this T.R. I can see others fine..:confused3

I would love to meet up if we happen to be there at the same time!! Maybe we can plan together! I got a PIN yesterday for 40% off delux, mods, and value!!! and I went to the travel agent today to price out a trip in Sept!! Probably won't do it, but 40% of a value is kind of hard to pass up!

:welcome: I'm currently living in Chestnut Hill, so that's pretty close!! If you ever have the chance to go solo, do it! even if it's for a day when you're down there with family! It's such a great experience!

Oh no, I don't know what happened!! I looked back through and I can still see them? Can anyone else know if you're having problems so I can try to figure it out?

Oh, it is still so hot in September. I am such a woos when it comes to that heat! Tried it one year and had to go back to my room pretty often!
How do people get these PINs? I never seem to receive any....sniff sniff :confused3

It is a little hot in September, but we were there last year at that time and the crowds were so low!! It's hard to pass up! As for PINs, I've been really lucky. I registered on disney.com a few months ago, and I've already received 3 pins, one of which we're taking advantage of for our December trip. Just sign up over there with a new email address, and hopefully you'll get something soon!

I left you in the American Adventure (yawn), so let's keep moving on to Japan. This is another pavilion that just doesn't really capture my heart. I walked through the beautiful gardens and did a little shopping.
IMG_2091.jpg

IMG_2092.jpg

I hung around the Pick-A-Pearl section for a while, but no one was buying so I continued on. I also looked for the sake section but couldn't find it. Is it upstairs or downstairs? As I was leaving, Miyuki was finishing up so I watched her make some beautiful candy.
IMG_2093.jpg

After that, it was off to Morocco! I spent quite a bit of time walking through all the shops here. Everything is just so interesting. I ran into another Photopass photog and took a couple of shots.
IMG_2094.jpg

And then took a few randoms of the pavilion.
IMG_2096.jpg

IMG_2098.jpg

I really wanted to meet Aladdin and Jasmine but the CM with them had already closed the line. He was really helpful and told me exactly when they would be coming back out so I could get in line early. I knew I would be coming back this way later, so I headed on to France. A showing of Serveur Amusant was soon, and I really wanted to see this show. It was great, the guys were really funny and very talented.

When they were done, I stopped to take some pictures of the Beauty and the Beast topiaries

IMG_2101.jpg

And then I saw this cute little thing!
IMG_2104.jpg

I love Marie!!
Since I still had some time before Mo'Rockin and Aladdin/Jasmine, I continued on to the UK, and ran right into this pretty girl!
IMG_2120.jpg

IMG_2122.jpg

We had a lovely talk about tea, and then I wandered through the Twinings Tea Garden and into the tea shoppe, where I bought a great sampler pack of different berry and fruit flavored teas. They're all delicious.
Here's some randoms from UK

It looks like I'm the only one here!

IMG_2116.jpg

Here's a pic of the globe coming out to the lagoon.
IMG_2114.jpg

On the way back to Morroco, I snapped this great pic across the lagoon.
IMG_2128.jpg

I wandered back to Morocco and got in line to see the famous couple. We had a great chat about magic carpets and fireworks.
IMG_2130.jpg

I can't add any more images, so this will continued in the next post! Where will I eat dinner? Will I ever make it back to Future World? and will I consume more alcoholic beverages? Stay tuned.....
