A Whirlwind of Eats and Treats!: April 2015 Dining Report (w/ F&G)- COMPLETED

Great reviews so far, thank you!

Fashionably late, but I'd never miss a whirlwind of eats!

Next is the Durban-Style Roasted Chicken, which was also absolutely amazing.
This looks awe-some. I've had durban chicken stewed before but never seen it with full pieces.

African Rum Runner: Pink Pigeon African Rum, Blackberry Brandy, Creme de Banana, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, and Grenadine.

It was exactly what I needed to sooth my nerves and get my vacation started finally!
A girl after my own heart. Love the way you roll.

And finally, Fufu. Just because I like the name. And it's tasty, too. Win/Win!
Ok, I gotta ask what is Fufu? Sounds fun, but strange name

..the ubiquitous beignets! They were good. I don't know that it's necessarily something I would order again, but I'm definitely glad that I tried them!
Your meals at Sassagoula look great, but then again you had me at beignet.

Boma looks amazing! I wasn't sure if we would hit it for breakfast or dinner during our next stay at AKL. But now maybe...both?

Jim is a total carnivore so I know he would be happy there!

I've heard rave reviews of the beignets. I'm trying to decide if it's worth a special trip over to Port Orleans for them (and a peek at the resort as well) but maybe not?

Dinner looks good! Nice and filling, good homestyle food!

I've always wanted to try Boma...been to Jiko and Sanaa but never Boma :( That Salmon looks sooo yummy!!!

That breakfast bowl looks amazing, I may have to try that this September when we are there. This year we are eating breakfast at somewhere Disney, in previous years we saved money by ordering breakfast items from Garden Grocer like Pop Tarts, but this trip we decided to splurge and try some of the breakfasts offered...this will definitely be on my list!

Hi Billie! I usually never following Dining Reports but you sucked me in from your TR! I will have to come back and get all caught up later today. Just wanted to say Hi! :flower3:

That breakfast bowl looked so good and kinda different...I'm gonna check out the menu...are there a lot of options for what you can get in the bowls?
There was! I wish I could remember them all. I know it was the three meats I got, cheese, potato, mushrooms, eggs, and several other veggies! :o

I have to admit we thought the beignets there are just "ok". We are total beignet snobs though, having had them several times at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans :rolleyes1 it just ain't the same.
This was my first beignet experience, and they were good, just not OMG AMAZING. :cutie:

But the chicken and ribs combo....total yummo!
It really yummy, I was surprised how good it was! ::yes::

Following. Thanks for posting.
And thank YOU for following and commenting! :goodvibes

I'm following too and looking forward to your reviews! :)
Welcome! :wave2:

Great reviews so far, thank you!
No, thank YOU! :thumbsup2

Fashionably late, but I'd never miss a whirlwind of eats!
Yay, Kari is here! Hi, Kari!

This looks awe-some. I've had durban chicken stewed before but never seen it with full pieces.
This was my first time trying Durban anything, but it was DELICIOUS. :bitelip:

A girl after my own heart. Love the way you roll.
I rarely drink at home, but as far as I'm concerned, when on vacation, it's always cocktail hour. :thumbsup2

Ok, I gotta ask what is Fufu? Sounds fun, but strange name
It's basically mashed sweet potatoes with coriander and cinnamon. ;)

Your meals at Sassagoula look great, but then again you had me at beignet.
Everybody seems to love them beignets! ::yes::

Boma looks amazing! I wasn't sure if we would hit it for breakfast or dinner during our next stay at AKL. But now maybe...both?
That's the question I ask myself over and over, planning each of my trips. Breakfast and dinner there are BOTH absolutely amazing! So hard to choose. :scratchin

Jim is a total carnivore so I know he would be happy there!
Us T-Rex's do appreciate a good selection of meat on a buffet line. Boma definitely has that! But they also have a ton of vegetarian options, too. The place is just amazeballs. :D

Ehhhh. Having had them now, I don't think I myself would make a special trip for them. I say if you're ever staying at POFQ, definitely give them a try, though! :-)

Dinner looks good! Nice and filling, good homestyle food!
Yaaaassss. Being raised in the south, this was total comfort food for me. I loved it. :lovestruc

I've always wanted to try Boma...been to Jiko and Sanaa but never Boma :(
I'm the opposite! I've been to Boma countless times, but never Jiko or Sanaa! :P

That Salmon looks sooo yummy!!!
I couldn't get over how delicious it was, honestly! I wish I had more of it to eat RIGHT NOW! :cutie:

Yum, I think I could have a breakfast bowl at any time of the day - I didn't know about those, I will have to put that on my list. So smart to think of double cheese!
not just double cheese, but I ask the CM to layer it a certain way for me, and she was happy to do it... Potatoes, eggs, layer of cheese, meats, mushrooms, another layer of cheese. I wanted to make sure there was melty gooey cheese all through it. :thumbsup2

I usually TRY to do the same thing! I bring breakfast stuff from home (danishes, etc) and tell myself that I'm going to just eat in the room while getting dressed... But then I get there, and most mornings I end up eating out somewhere anyhow. Whoops!

Hi Billie! I usually never following Dining Reports but you sucked me in from your TR! I will have to come back and get all caught up later today. Just wanted to say Hi! :flower3:
Hi, honey! I'm so glad you're here to drool with me!

Even though we're staying at POFQ soon, those Mardi Gras masks really freak me out. DH is going to have to suck it up and go in there for me because I'm definitely going to be getting that breakfast bowl!

I'm with you an on the beignets. While they are tasty, they aren't Cafe Du Monde tasty. BUT - I do see one thing missing from your dinner at Sassgagoula ... the collards. Oh my word ... the collards are outstanding!

Enjoying your report so far :D

Hahaha! This is the EXACT reason I am so hesitant to ever stay at the Boardwalk! The Mardi Gras masks only give me a little pause, but clowns... now they TOTALLY freak me out. And this... well... THIS here just terrifies me...

No ma'am! Nuh huh! Not this girl! No way! o_O

You know, I'm not a big collards person! In fact, as you'll notice through out this report, I'm not a big veggies person in general. :rotfl:

Enjoying your report so far :D
I'm so glad! Thanks for being here! :goodvibes

Lunch

I'd done dinner here in September, but this was my first lunch, so I was super excited to check it out! I had done the online pre-ordering, and MAAAAN was I glad! The line for people waiting for the ordering kiosks was crazy long!! I was so happy to be able to walk right past them all, and go straight to a register, and then onto my table.

My table! How perfect is that? I had a lovely view of both the ballroom, and the snow falling outside the window. :goodvibes

My food arrived relatively quickly, and once it was there to hold my table for me, I went to the drinks and silverware station to grab my needed supply, then was back at my table and ready to dig in! It looked DELICIOUS and smelled even better, but I restrained myself for photos...

Braised Pork (Coq Au Vin Style): Eight Hour Slow-cooked Pork with Mushrooms, Onions, Carrots and Bacon served with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans Jardiniere.

I'm not a fan of onions or peppers, so those all got picked out. The green beans were surprisingly good, even for a carnivore like myself! However, the mashed potatoes and the pork were the real stars of this meal. Both were absolutely incredible. I'm drooling a little as I reminisce about them right now!

And of course... the Master's Cupcake! I enjoyed this farrrrr more than the way they serve the Grey Stuff at dinner. I could eat a dozen of these babies! Yum!

Snack

As I cruised through Adventureland, I came across Sunshine Tree Terrace (in the old Aloha Isle location), and remembered one of my Facebook friends asking me to have a Citrus Swirl for her. I'd never tried one, so I figured, why not!

20150425_173315-1.jpg

I even took a picture of my first bite for her...

20150425_173358-1.jpg

Sadly, there weren't many bites after that. :sad2: The orange just was NOT my thing. I was over it pretty quickly, and threw about half of it away. But! That being said, I'm still glad that I tried it! (It DID, however, leave me with a real hankering for some good old-fashioned vanilla soft serve!)

That entree looked really good at BOG...and want that cupcake! Last time we were there I got all flustered during the ordering process and forgot to order dessert because it was so chaotic in the ordering area!! I was ok with it because I ended up being too full after lunch anyway...but definitely want to try that grey stuff next time! So I went to check out the menu at the SSF for breakfast to see about those bowls...but they aren't even on the menu online? Maybe I will have to check other sites like all ears or something to see more detail on that...not that it matters...I COULD wait until we are there but...you know how us planners are...lol wanting to know up front :)

BOG looks yummy! I made the grey stuff when we had friends down last summer--it's always delicious!

I don't think I'd be a fan of a citrus swirl either, but it sure looks pretty!

You are cranking out these dining reviews, Billie! Yay!

Omigosh, that breakfast bowl looks amazing! There was never anything like that available for breakfast anywhere we went. I'm so jealous.

I've heard so much about beignets but I've never tried them. I should have picked some up when we were in France at Epcot but I missed my chance. Maybe I didn't miss much.

That BBQ looks so good! I wanted Flame Tree when we were at AK but it was still closed so I think I'm still yearning for it. It's kinda hard to find good BBQ up here.

Aw, I love your little table at BOG. Your entree looks a lot better than mine was. We did pre-ordering and I made the mistake of only getting one gray stuff cupcake so I only got a lick of the grey stuff. What I tasted was good, though.

Wow, that breakfast bowl looks amazing! I didn't know they served that there. I may have to stop over on my next trip to Riverside.

Ooohh this is a fun dining report, really enjoying it! I'm working my way up to a solo trip......finally did a solo morning at MK last Feb while the family slept and it was heaven :cloud9:

You've interested me in Boma again! We did dinner there in 2011 and it's been off my radar since then. It was good, but kids weren't that thrilled and DH hasn't shown interest in going back. Now that they're older and I've seen you're awesome pics, we may have to return soon :scratchin

I LOVE reading reviews of BOG! It's one of mine and younger DS's favorite restaurants :goodvibes. We do prefer dinner but our lunch was good, too. Lunch once, dinner 5x, and hopefully again in Nov. I don't know why the grey stuff is so different at lunch? The Master's cupcake is delicious while that grey stuff cookie/brownie bar at dinner......not so much :snooty:

Wow what an awesome table you scored! That main room, especially by the windows is amazingly beautiful! And the master's cupcake....I could fly my happy butt down there just for that little treasure! The braised pork looks delish too. Loving your dining report so far!
