A week of DDP sharing (long)

I just read your report. Thanks for the details!! I'm planning my trip with DB and both are used to share every where we go, so Disney will not be the exception. I don't know what's the fuzz is about. You already pay for that food, it shouldn't matter how you use it (if both are in DDP, of course!)

Wonderful review. Thanks for taking the time to do so and glad you had wonderful dining experiences :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the review. We are planning to take the whole family (again) Spring Break 2007, and have DS9, and DS11 who really won't eat off the adult menu, but will be considered adults. Good to know we can have them share meals at the a la carte restaurants.

Thanks so much. We're trying the DDP this Oct. and we were concerned that "sharing" wasn't allowed, since we just can't eat that much food in one day! We plan on having a light breakfast in our room, sharing CS's for lunch and then using individual TS's for dinner.

Here's my problem...........will we encounter "attitudes" if we ask for doggie-bags for leftovers at Cali Grill and WPCafe :confused3? Even those meals are waaay too big for us, so we thought we'd use the other halves for the following day's dinner(in our room) :thumbsup2 . Has anyone done the doggie-bag thing without problems?

thanks for your run-down... curious about the lecellier coffee charge... was it a cup of regular coffee or a fancy/specialty coffee? i recently read that even if you got a soft drink w/your meal, the coffee was also included on the DDP (thereby actually giving you two bevs)... is that not so?

again, thanks! i'm hoping you do actual restaurant reviews 'cause you visited some of the places that we'll be visiting on our next trip :)

If you're looking to flame someone use your "<-Back" button now....we did not ever use a "child credit" to get an adult meal....(not that "child credits" exist yet anyway)....and now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

.

Liberty Tree Tavern. Family style meal, served on a platter, passed around....everyone had to use a credit here because there is no sharing at a buffet nor family style meal. DD-1 did not pay becuase she is under 3, we did not order a drink for her so we do not know if they would have charged for her. We were able to use a credit to treat a friend using DH's credit from missing chef mickey.
Cerdits used: 5A, 1C (Dmom and Ddad did not attend this meal)

dJust curious about this as we wanted to use a credit to treat DS who will be there for a day and we will have extra credits from the day we go off site. I assume that even though your card said 4A 1C you were allowed to order for 5 adults and 1C and use the DDP. Was there anything said about this by the server?

Our card did say 4A, 1C and we were allowed to use credits for 5A,1C with no problems at all. Not a word was said, indeed I did not see the blink of an eye. I can not promise that you will find the same thing but I think you will have no problem. Have a great trip!

My coffee was plain old coffee with cream and sweetner.

The ddp brochure says 1 appetiser, 1 entree, 1 dessert and 1 drink...so I did not question paying for the coffee. Some waiters are bringing it and not charging for it but I would not count on that. It was less than $4 for 2 coffees...my glass of wine was more than that. :)

Shell0616 where did you stay in England? I live just outside London and tipping is expected, ie resturants, taxis baggage handlers etc. In fact anywhere in Europe tipping is expected in my experience

WOW! I can now see tings may not be so hard on me next week when i arrive! I have four kids 4 7 10 and 12, so the two older are considered adults. Neither them nor I can eat all that food at one sitting so, my plan is to do exactly as you did and NOT be embarrassed about it. We went last year and the whole thing was fairly new to us. I had no idea how it all worked as a matter of fact, I ended using most of my sit downs at breakfast (duh! :confused3 ) but now I know better. I got on line this morning to lok up this exact senario (sharing) and thankfully found your post! It was great and now at least I know I am not the only one thinking about doing this. Its just simply too much for us.
thanks

No flames! all love :thumbsup2

Thank you, I enjoyed reading your review. Even though we will be on the dining plan I also plan to tip if the service is really good.

for me the plan will be free and I have a hard time not tipping. In England ( they don't tip) I had to beg them to take the tips. They would laugh or smile and look at me like I was a goofy American but I feel like I just have to do it.
We do sometimes tip in Britain, particularly in the larger cities or more expensive establishments, but it is very much less part of the culture than in the US. Is it possible that waitresses etc in Britain are on a higher basic wage to start with do you think? Anyway it made me smile to think of your tipping adventures. When we go to the states I am so anxious to avoid looking like a tightwad that I end up recklessly over tipping (I think one particularly embarassing example involved 40% in a buffet but I put that down to the wine ! ) DH says they will have me have figured as some form of social outcast who is deleriously delighted to be allowed into civilised company. I tell him that since we had offspring that may not be so far from the truth :rotfl:

The key problem with tipping in Britain is that people have to be paid a minimum wage of $9 an hour. They don't earn their living from tips. The culture is kind of: "well I don't tip the shop assistant for doing her job, I don't tip the bank clerk for doing his job, I don't tip the cleaners at the mall for doing their jobs, why should I tip a server for just doing his job?"

I'm a student who works in a shop. I get paid minimum wage. No one tips me. I'm earning what servers earn, if not less. I don't see why they should get tipped for just doing their job, same as I don't see why I should get tipped for just doing mine :confused3

We were there August 18-September 2 and I was asked more than once if I wanted a to-go container since I didn't finish my meal. I felt bad but we really didn't have the fridge space, so I declined. Also, I missed our dinner at Le Cellier due to illness but DH and oldest DD went anyhow and DH brought me back a chocolate moose and they happily packaged it up to be brought back to the room. Hope that makes you feel a bit better!! :thumbsup2

Absolutely-my daughter has worked in restaurants for 20 years and the base wage has stayed the same $2.10-2.30 per hour plus tips. There are nights that are well paid and others that even with tips it is just above minimum. I am sure there are many people in the same position.

As a first time DDP'er, I thank you. We're going 11/18 for 8 nights and we hope to share some meals not because we're trying to "rob Disney of hundreds of dollars" but because we don't want to eat so much food that we bust wide open. I can't believe people are getting upset about sharing...good grief. If you ask me, Americans (and yes I am one!) eat too much anyway. How much food do you really need - c'mon people! I don't want to go on vacation and gain 5 pounds. I'm not saying we plan on sharing every meal, but we want the option.

If they take away sharing, I will not do the dining plan. Not because I'm being difficult but because I don't wish to overeat or waste food.

I do plan on tipping extra for good service whether we share or not.
