A WDW Junkie is going to DL? Crazy!

I hate it when people say this. There most definitely IS a Magic Kingdom in California. The main Disneyland park has always been referred to as the Magic Kingdom. It was the first, and just because you have to differentiate in WDW does not mean that the one in CA is any less so.

Sorry- when I was just a complete DLR inexperienced WDW vet a few years ago, someone here told me that the proper way to refer to it was DL and not MK, and that I should not refer to both parks as "DL" and it stuck. Seems like that is how they are usually referred to in this forum. Plus the Disneyland website calls them Disneyland park and California Adventure Park and doesn't use the term MK; while the WDW website uses "Magic Kingdom". I'm perfectly happy calling it MK if that is correct, becuase the DL/CA is confusing to me. I always think DL should be both parks- and then they should be MK and CA respectively. I completely agree that Disneyland park is certainly a "Magic Kingdom", every bit as much as MK At WDW!

Verstehen, if you absolutely can't do the hopper then you definitely want to pick DL/MK!

Happily you are both correct. The official name of Disneyland the theme park is Disneyland. However, for many years it was also referred to as "the Magic Kingdom". It is like an unofficial name.

The WDW theme park is officially called Magic Kingdom.

All of the Disney resorts in the world (there are five - Florida, California, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong) have a "magic kingdom". These are parks with a Main Street and a castle, etc.

So I would not refer to Disneyland as MK in an official sense. But if you ride the railroad at DL you will be told you are riding around "the magic kingdom".

I know, I've had that discussion here before as well. It is correct to refer to any of the main parks as the Magic Kingdom, because they are. I started visiting Disneyland in 1978, and it was referred to as the Magic Kingdom then, and in fact is the original Magic Kingdom.

On this forum I occasionally refer to it as Disneyland's Magic Kingdom, but usually stick with DL or whatever. I was just pointing out that it's not wrong to call it the Magic Kingdom, and CA definitely has one.
