Ok.. this is my problem and I am wondering how I should do this...

I will recieve a paycheck while I am at Disney in September. We will be needing at least some of this money for our spending/eating/gas money. My grandmother has said she will put the money in my bank so we can draw it out if we need it. HOWEVER... my bank is very local, only 4 branches of it, and I know for a fact there's not one like it in FL anywhere. SO.. I guess my question is... what would be the easiest and cheapest way for me to get my money to me in FL without alot of hoopla and problems? I don't want to just get a little of it, but rather the entire amount which could wind up being as much as $600.00. I do not own a credit card, but I do have a Visa debit card. Thanks for any help/advice anyone can give me.. :)

Just use your Visa Debit card at any ATM and for a small fee (usually around $2.50 or less) you can make a withdrawal.

it wouldn't matter if there were a thousand branches like your bank in orlando, you're not going to get the cash from the check the day it's deposited (if your bank does that, let me know because i'll switch).

once the check clears and the funds are deposited, you'll be able to access it via your debit card.

i'm not sure what you're hoping for? the only way i can think of to circumvent any of that is to go through a check cashing place, but i can't imagine your grandmother would even be able to do that.

Can you get your paycheck set up for direct deposit? That is the best way to go to get the quickest access to your funds.

Actually, my bank DOES do that.. ;) What they do is "memo post" the funds to my checking account so that I can do what I need to do with the money that day. It does not have to actually be the same day the check is deposited, I just want to have the money in case I need it.

Well, the only other way I know to get around an ATM fee is if you are able to get to a store off property like walmart, walgreens or local supermarket like publix. if you make a small purchase and use the debit card to pay, choose debit from the pinpad and yes to cash back. some banks do charge for this so check with your bank to see if they do. I have done this in the past when I was nowhere near my banks ATM. Some of these stores have a limit on how much you can withdraw at a time so you may want to ask the cashier if you want to go that route. the ATM's in the parks are Chase Bank and the last time I had to use one it was $5 fee from the machine and $2 from my bank so it was a very expensive withdrawal. :scared1:

Nah..I couple bucks to use an ATM won't be a problem.. I was just trying to figure some things out.. :) Thank you all for your help!

With two exceptions I can think of in ten years, Washington Mutual has always allowed me access to just-deposited checks....

To the OP, does your company do direct deposit? With over 2 months to go, you should have time to get that up and running, if they offer it.

Wait, how is your mom going to sign your check in order to deposit it?

As for getting access once it's in the account, why not just buy things with the debit card? We don't have CCs either, only the debit/check card, and we use that puppy everywhere. :) OK, not everywhere at WDW since we've never been there, but everywhere else we go.

I'm just saying I don't get the need for cash, when you can just use the card (and many places let you take out cash when using the debit and PIN while making a purchase).

Ooh Ooh! Does WDW have anything like Disneyland where you can cash a check? DL has a little bank, or something like a bank? (don't know if it's TRULY a bank), and you can cash a check for something like $100.

yeah, a bank is supposed to give you immediate access to $100 same day...

but i'm confused then... if the bank allows you to access it, where's the problem?

I think her problem is that she won't be near her bank to get the money, so she's trying to figure out how to get it since they don't have a branch near WDW. I agree though, just use your debit card if you need the money. If it's in your bank you'll be fine. I wouldn't carry around that much cash anyway. Have fun!

Just another reason I love banking with Chase (and working there too!!!)

Hi LadyM :wave2: I don't like to carry alot of cash or my credit/debit cards with me when I'm in the parks. I put charging privledges on my room key, so all I have to take with me when I go to the parks is a small amount of cash and my key. Use your key for your purchases and then just pay it off at your hotel with your debit card when you check out (or if you don't mind carrying your debit card, just use that). You can always use the ATM if you need a little cash.

Do you have any credit cards? Use them for the day to day purchases and when you get home, send in a payment.

Using a debit card and saying it is a credit card (no PIN given) will work to make the purchase but will not work to address the problem you asked about. The money is still taken from your checking account immediately.

Some debit cards give reward points or airline miles only when used like credit cards.

I would reccomend applying for the Disney Chase Visa. They generally offer a no interest for the first year. This way you can pay it off when you get home, and not have to stress about your funds arriving on time. BTW, paychecks, coming from a company, should be deposited as cash.

If the Visa debit card is linked to your checking account, why not use it like a credit card, save your receipts and write them in your checkbook ledger?? There are no ATM fees when you use it as a credit card.

I'd initially bring more cash than you planned if you're worried about not being able to find an ATM or something.

I know you said you don't have credit cards but you do have a visa check card. Link this to your room key and then use your room key to buy the extras that you need. The money is taken out of your checkbook. This is what we have done in the past. We try not to carry more than $100 in cash with us. Hope it helps!

My cash is available immediately, but we have direct deposit. DH works for the electric company and I work for the school district, so our deposits are reliable as well, so maybe that is why our funds are immediately available.

well yes, that's precisely what direct deposit is. but depositing a check is altogether different. i deposited a check for several thousands today.. i see the deposit pending online as a credit, but it's not available to me yet. i'm with chase.

Your debit card should work in any ATM throughout the country.

You will need to check with your bank as to the type of fees that you may incur while using it. There will also be a limit as to how much cash you can take out in a given day (usually no more than $300).

That same debit card also works like a credit card so make sure that you save every receipt along with any receipts from ATM's so that you can record them into your check register. Lastly, when you do use that card in a store and are given the option "charge or debit", opt for charge so that you don't find yourself keying in your PIN in front of several other people.
