A Voyage of Firsts! The WONDERful Journey North: LA-Vancouver-Alaska, 4/27-5/10 2011

OK, I just might be able to start thinking a little bit about this cruise.

I know it's cheaper to fly out of Seattle than Vancouver.

Just exactly what are the options to get from the port in Vancouver to the airport in Seattle?

I think everyone has different schedules. I believe that Monica and Jackie are flying out of Seattle now. I think Cheri is staying in Vancouver for a day or two, but I'm not certain. Me and John were going to spend a couple of days in Vancouver and then drive to Seattle and spend a couple of days there before flying home. I'm not sure what everyone else is doing. There was some talk of taking a train from Seattle to Vancouver. John and I would do that if a group was going. We'll see.

I guess I need to start really thinking about this trip, when we are going to arrive in LAX and when we are going to return from Alaska.

I don't think we'll be doing DL before the cruise because it will still be Passover and that will be very difficult for me. Otherwise, we would have done at least one day at DL.

I'm not even sure where to stay the night before the cruise. I'm wondering now about the Queen Mary.

I'm leaning towards spending the night of the 10th in Vancouver (holding the Pan Pacific hotel) and flying home from Vancouver on the 11th.

I'd like to fly out to LA on the 26th (and stay at the Queen Mary) BUT not sure if I can get that day off. I may just fly in (early) on the 27th, and go straight to the ship.

The problem for me is time off from work. I'm very hesitant to fly out from Chicago on the date we sail because you never know what is going to happen with weather. We've always arrived the evening before the cruise.

Time off from work is the problem.

I'm been doing some poking around and I think I know a bit more about how we're going to do the logistics for this trip.

I think I'm going to try to get SW the night before the cruise. If the schedule then is anything like it is now, there'll be a flight at about 8:00 p.m. to LAX.

For the return, after considerable research I think we'll do Alaska/Horizon out of Vancouver. More expensive than SW out of Seattle, but not too bad considering that the SW option would entail, bus fares, an overnight hotel in SEA, and the cost of pain and suffering having to schlepp our luggage all over creation, plus having to take yet another day off of work.

Do you need me to hold you a room at the Pan Pacific, or will you be flying out the same day we debark??? I decided to leave out of Vancouver instead of Seattle cuz of the times/cost involved.

Monica - I think we're going to fly back to Chicago the day we debark in Vancouver. I think we can catch a 1:30 pm flight out of Vancouver. We arrive very late in Chicago, BUT I think it will after everything is added up, be cheaper when everything is added up. I would also have the option to return to work the next day.

Ian - I'm planning on using AA frequent flyer miles & they're not showing anything available after 845am, flying home to MCO.

I don't want to fly in day off, either - but not sure if I can get the extra days off either.

I've had the okay from work to take 3 weeks all off at the same time if I want to. I'm planning on arriving a few days early in LA so I can visit DL and tour Hollywood. I am also considering staying for a few days in Vancouver. It makes sense since I haven't seen these places to visit while I'm already going to be there. Not sure how I feel about 3 weeks away all at once though? That would only leave me one more week of vacation for the year.

We have four nights available from getting off the boat in Vancouver to flying home out of Seattle. I just booked a hotel for all four nights in Seattle. Vancouver had all nonsmoking hotels. John still smokes. He would not be comfortable in the room. Plus overall the prices were higher in Vancouver than in Seattle. So we took the Seattle hotel.....less expensive and a smoking room. We'll pick up the car as soon as we get off the boat, then we have all day in Vancouver before we have to drive to Seattle. I'm thinking it's not very far....150-ish miles.....maybe a three hour drive.

We have never been to Seattle and I have a cousin there. Kaylee is also there. We could fill four days before flying home.

Was just playing on the Pan Pacific website...NICE! :thumbsup2 Guess you couldn't be any more convenient location wise. We can practically walk off the ship, go through the terminal and check in at the hotel! Dump that luggage and start enjoying our one day in Vancouver right away!

MUST remember, we can also explore Vancouver on the B2B transition day. After we re-check in we can go exploring for a hunk of the day. Woody has volunteered to lead a pack of us to the nearest Japadog stand!:lmao:

YAY! Thanks Deb! :yay: I haven't even had time to check the other threads yet, so I have no idea, but I want to be where the Thieves are, so thanks for the link! I see I have lots to catch up on. I'll try when I'm more rested and awake. :thumbsup2

Ah, a Voyage of Firsts!!! It sounds Wonder-ful... :cloud9: Tho' I confess initially I misread it as a Voyage of Fists which was a slight worry...

And in the spirit of firsts - may I present Richard's debut dinner outfit!!!

I think it captures quintessential Disney and redefines Cruise Casual...

OK, first of all, forgive me for re-posting something old, but I'm just starting out on this thread and will have lots of catching up over the weekend. And second, is that a Jack Skellington outfit? It's too early for my eyes to fully focus yet, but if so, HOW COOL!!! Never seen one before! :thumbsup2
