It's a Tiger Swallowtail........

I used to see them in SoCal all the time before I moved away.

Wow--you get butterflies all the way over there in the BIG city Roberta????

I'm over here in E.B. (j/k folks, we probably live all of 10 minutes apart, she is in the city, and I am in a rural/country small town.)

What a beautiful butterfly, and I cannot believe you got that close, and that it posed for you.

Swallowtails will usually ignore you, hence the great pictures. Monarchs are camera shy though.
