Some of you may remember that last year I posted about a friend of mine from childbirth class who had lost her baby. She labored very quickly and was ready to push as soon as her midwife arrived at her house, so there was no time to find the baby's heartbeat before she started pushing. They were surprised to find out that the baby was stillborn, and they later found out that he had died about 2-3 days previously.

That was on January 27, 2003. My friend, Molly, got pregnant again not too long afterward and was due on January 29. She was really hoping that this baby would be born before January 27 so that she wouldn't have to go to the cemetary while she was still pregnant and worried about this baby.

She had her baby today, and both she and the baby were fine. This labor went quickly, too, and she ended up having the baby about 10 minutes before the midwife got there. She said that after the head was out, she got a feeling that she should check for the cord. She did, and the cord was wrapped loosely around the baby's neck. She calmly pulled it off before she pushed him the rest of the way out. He was a bit lethargic when he was first born, but she rubbed him with a towel while her husband searched for the nasal aspirator, and he was fine as soon as they suctioned him.

I'm just so happy that everything went well that I just have to share it with as many people as possible. The doctors were never able to tell the exact cause of death last time, so she was seeing a perinatologist (a high-risk pregnancy specialist) along with her midwife this time. A lot of us have been worrying about her and praying for her this past year, and it's just so wonderful that everything turned out so well.

Wonderful, wonderful news, Amy!!!!! Please pass on our good wishes and congratulations to the new mom and dad!!!! Super!!!!!! :bounce:

I am so glad everything went well this time. :p It is so hard when they can't tell you why things went terribly wrong. Please tell your friend that her son has a very SPECIAL guardian angel! :D

How wonderful-Congrats, to her and her husband!

Congrats to your friend, but am I understanding you correctly? She was a high risk pregnancy and she chose to deliver at home?

She had a high-risk pregnancy, but not a high-risk delivery. Every doctor agreed last time that delivering at the hospital would have been absolutely no advantage, since the baby had died of some problem not related to labor or delivery. The perinatologist was fine with her having this baby at home.
