My Mom â 45, a Disney nut dying to see Animal Kingdom
Pre trip
Christmas day 1999, I was at my MomâÂÂs for present opening. After I had opened all my gifts she asked me to look inside a purse she had given me. I did, and pulled out⦠a DisneyWorld brochure! She asked me if I would like to go with her in June, and of course I said yes. IâÂÂve always wanted to go to Disneyworld, but when I was growning up we didnâÂÂt have enough money vacations. Last summer I visited Disneyland for a day while I was in California, and that really whetted my appetite to visit wdw. My Mom had a tough year, with her father dying and losing a promotion, so she decided we would take the trip we had never been able to when I was growing up (IâÂÂm 22 now).
She figured out the days she could get off from work and set me to planning using the internet, which is something IâÂÂm great at! My Mom had been to Disney once before, on a conference staying at Coronado springs 2 years earlier. The first decision I had to make was hotels. I checked out the pictures at wdwig and decided definitely on Port Orleans. I also made decisions about what day to visit each park and all our priority seating ressies.
As the day approached I was so excited I could hardly stand it! We made a trip to Wal Mart to buy brita water bottles, sunscreen, and Breathe Right strips for my Mom (sheâÂÂs a serious snorer!) We also got some nutrigrain bars for snacks in the hotel, as well as some chocolate for the plane (I would need help to survive it!)
