A vent - looking for new employees

In the OP's defense, there's a big difference between posting on a message board and preparing a cover letter and resume. With a resume, I proofread and then have someone else proofread it for me. On a message board, I skip those steps. ;)

Most businesses don't need part-time employees during the middle of the day like that. I know I need part-timers that either work either 7:30-3:30 or 9-5 for four days a week. I understand that 10-3 works great for moms but that doesn't cover the hours my office is open.

Thanks for the back up NMAMY :goodvibes How we do things at work and how I do them on a message board are just a wee bit different.

I got a few emails & resumes today, most are what PP's have said are probably those that applicants are sending out because the "have" to for their unemployment benefits. I find reading through those resumes frustrating but at the same time I don't want to miss something good, sometimes the best gems are hidden.

I did get one email today that made me  The applicant did not use a single piece of puncuation or capital letter (inluding I or should i say i) her her entire letter (no need for a period here)

The ad that we ran in the newspapers and college job board was brief but we directed everyone to our company website for full detailed information. Our website outlines everything from what we do here (as a company) to the specific hours, job duties, qualifications, wages, etc. for this position - having looked at other ads I didn't want to leave anything up in the air for perspective applicants. I must have received 40-50 phones calls from people who couldn't find the website (and yes I double checked it was listed correctly and the website was up and running), didn't know how to use a computer (not they didn't have a computer, the didn't know HOW to use a computer), or people who read the ad but then called to ask things like "what are the hours" "how much does it pay" etc.

We actually hired a young lady a week ago only to have her call in the day before she was supposed to start to tell us that she couldn't take the job because she couldn't live off of what we are willing to pay. She had already accepted the job and completed all of the new hire paperwork. She said she would stay on unemployment for another 6 months or until she could find a job that would start her at $40K a year for part-time with no expereince & 2 years out of high school. I thought I was on candid camera for a second :lmao: I just wished her luck on that :rotfl:

We had another young lady work for us who we had to let go after constant violation of the dress code - she came to work every day in rubber flip flops :headache:

Reading about these interviewees is shocking! We we're taught about how to write good CV's, interview preperation, what to wear etc at school so how anyone would turn up in dirty clothes without showering is alien to me!

I have an interview on Saturday morning which I am really nervous about. (I am secretly hoping that other interviewee's act like some of the ones mentioned here to give me a better chance!).

OP, I feel your pain. I have a job posting for high level position which states 10 years of experience in specific position. I have received many replies with no experience in the field.

To the posters who have stated they have the experience but in another field, this is not the same. I need someone who can hit the ground running and knows the applicable state laws; not someone who managed a McDonald's (I am not bashing McD's but it is not the field I am in).

Earlier today I had a discussion with a manager that I need to rerun an ad. He got lots of responses from the last ad but no one who was authorized to work in the U.S. So now I have to run another ad and specifically mention "must be authorized to work in the US".

I can tell when people are merely fulfilling unemployment quotas and it usually doesn't bother me. However I had one applicant who was looking for a $10 per hour position and applied for every job we had open; including a VP position (which was not in the state she lived in). At that point I sent her a polite email asking her to apply only for the positions she was qualified for.
