Hi,
I just had to vent a little about my parents and a possible vacation next year. In the past I usually use the majority of my vacation time early in the year, and the when the last 6 months come I wish I hadn't. Also, I always plan my vacation around birthdays and and such so I will be home with my family. We all get along very well and enjoy the time we spend with each other.
So today I was making my weekly call to them to see what was up and we got chatting on how it was a good thing that I moved my Cancun trip from Feb 06 to Nov 18-25, 2006 because of the hurricane and how that was going to be the destination for my thanksgiving week 2006 trip. I figure my mom would say that's sounds fun, but the way my mom reacted, you would have thought that this was the first time she heard this and wasn't to happy. She wen't off and said fine don't celebrate the holiday with us. I asked way back in May about doing this and neither one of them objected at all. Even at 32, since this is around a holiday time, I wanted to make sure that everyone was cool with it and as far as I knew everyone was. I mentioned that nothing had been said to me in any of our most resent coversations about this trip, about her having a problem with this. I could understand if I gave her a short notice like planning something now for this thanksgiving, but I'm planning this 19 months ahead of time. Since I only live 2 hours away, I'm always able to visit them and go to all the family celebrations and haven't missed any of them.
On one had I don't think it's fair for me to cancel my trip, but on the other hand, I don't want my mother to be upset about this even though I think she's over reacting to this.
What do you all think.
