A Veggie and a Meat Lover vs Dlx Dining, June 8-18, Closing Thoughts 11/12

Good morning! I am officially back. Lets get this review going.

Day 6 Part 1

Today was an early day at AK and to most that can only mean one thing...Tusker House!!
DSC_0072.jpg

I have to say I was very excited. Donald is my favorite of all time and anything with his name in the title has to be good. I had read a lot of reviews on Tusker House lunch but not very many on breakfast. being the breakfast nut I am I wanted to try their breakfast (I will def not win this fight next time tho....it will be all lunch and dinners) and be there right when everything opened!

Our ADR was for 8:05 so we stood on the line for early entrance for BF. Then we were herded off to Tusker house with everyone else.

First up was of course, a photo with the awesome Duck himself.
Photo0136.jpg

now the one comment DH made...and I have to agree is...how its Donald's Safari Breakfast...but you only get to see him at the beginning! so...i'm not sure if I like Chef mickey's with a random plastic statue but mickey walking around or this way? :confused3

We were seated in a small room to the left of the entrance. I asked if they had my dietary request list....they didn't :headache: but said they would be happy to send someone out!

IMG_3302.jpg

A chef came by pretty quickly to walk me around the buffet. He was very helpful and nice about everything. He said if there was anything special I needed to just ask. I found there was plenty I could eat so I didn't ask for anything special.

My first plate
IMG_3305.jpg

forgive me if my memory is off but I believe this is whats on the plate. starting at the top: Oven-roasted Yukon Gold Potato Wedges, Vegetable Quiche, scrambled eggs (predictable!) Vegetable Frittata, Boiled egg, I think this was pineapple bread or something but I can't find the name, Yam Casserole
IMG_3306.jpg

This is a normal meal for me at home....but somehow I didn't want it as much when we were it Disney....too healthy I think :rotfl: Strawberry yogurt and Granola

I thought the food was good. A nice change from disney's normal BF buffet menu. The potato wedges, pineapple bread and Yam casserole were my faves. I wasn't really into the vegetable frittata

IMG_3307.jpg

DH's plate. He is very creative don't you think? Plate of meat.

Then the characters started coming around. They all came pretty quickly.
IMG_3310.jpg

IMG_3309.jpg

There was also a point where they did a parade around the dining area.
IMG_3317.jpg

see the guy on the chair? He got in big trouble...your not suppose to stand on chairs dude!!

sorry I didn't take pictures of our second plates.

The food was very good and I enjoyed the atmosphere the best. I love the way things are set up and everyone was really nice.

I really like Tusker House breakfast! Love all the fruit and bakery selections. Lunch there is good to, this year we are going to try dinner!

HDDR looks to be so much fun, now I'm sad we didn't make reservations for this (our kids don't understand english so we though the Luau thing might be better but will defiantly do the HDDR in the future)

Oh, I so hope we'll get a better table and CM and food for our 50's prime lunch. It's reserved for my birthday and I've already picked out my 50's dress....

great update, We love Tusker House breakfast buffet. When we went last time, Donald walked around (he signed autograph and took a few pictures). He was part of the musical parade too.
Its a must to do every Disney trip for my family.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Adorable couple! Enjoying your reviews. Will have to check out your tr as I just found your dining reviews. looking forward to more.

Yay! A new review! I'm glad you found stuff you could eat there. It looks good!

I was wondering what that guy was doing on the chair...! I could see a kid doing that, but an adult?

I love Tusker House!!! I have only been for breakfast, so I am planning to try lunch on our upcoming trip. Your pics with the characters are so cute!:goodvibes

I think we would like lunch....DH isn't big a breakfast so all the breakfast buffets kind of killed him. so adding in a lunch would be good. plus this seems to be the only good restaurant at AK?

Well it will just be an excuse to come back! and something new to look forward to when you do. Most of it is jokes and stuff that they won't understand but there is singing and dancing so they might still enjoy it.

I hope you do too. I don't think its as common to get the experience we had. so I hope yours is better and you have a great birthday!

oh! I wonder why he didn't come in this time! I love Donald and would have liked to see him more. It is his breakfast so its kind of funny he is banished outside!

It was very good. There was too much choice I think this time! I wanted everything and couldn't eat it all! :rotfl:

He was getting into the parade?! haha I donno but that was the CM's reaction..."um sir? you can't stand on the chairs" not even kids were doing stuff like that. it was just him.

Oh! well you will have to tell me how you like it! We might have to add it on for our next trip. Thanks hun!

I am loving your reviews...sounds like you had a wonderful Disneymoon.....congratulations!

Day 6 Part 2

Dinner at Citricos! We were back and forth for the longest time between Narcoossee's and Citricos but in the end DH liked the sound of Citricos better.

We arrived pretty much on time and waited for a little while in the lobby.
IMG_3337.jpg

We were brought to our table which was right next to the kitchen (we took this as almost a chef's table!) The restaurant is beautiful. We loved how it is decorated and everything smelt amazing!
IMG_3341.jpg

we were given a special honeymoon menu!
IMG_3342.jpg

which really made me happy!!
Look DH spotted a hidden mickey
IMG_3343.jpg

Our waiter came by to get our drink orders and also to ask about my diet requests. I have to say this was one of the nicest waiters of our trip. He was so kind and chatty and attentive. He really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and enjoyed everything.

okay because i still can't find the new silly bar menu that every place has....i can't tell you what drink this is. but it was AMAZING. IT was a frozen margarita...Mango maybe?
IMG_3345.jpg

and DH had This champagne drink
IMG_3348.jpg

the whole trip he threw me off. whatever I thought he would order he would get the complete opposite!
IMG_3351.jpg

this had citrus salted butter! Wow...amazing. (only disney can make butter taste so good)

Okay so a chef came by and told me I could pretty much have anything. He said look through the whole menu and you can grab bits from different things and we can make you a meal. or there was one vegetarian dish.

So for my appetizer I got the carrot bisque without the shrimp!
IMG_3353.jpg

DH got Seared Tuna Carpaccio - Spiced and seared Ahi tuna topped with citrus relish and blackberry vinaigrette.
IMG_3354.jpg

both of us were in heaven the food was SO good. I love soup but I always have such a hard time getting it because so many have meat base. So I get so excited when I can actually eat some! I had never had carrot soup...but this was great. DH really enjoyed his tuna (another odd order for him)

Or waiter noticed I was taking photos and offered to take one of us!
IMG_3355.jpg

Okay so here is where I am silly and difficult! haha I ordered Seared Tofu - Zucchini and Eggplant Ratatouille, Roasted Mushrooms, lentils and sun dried tomato puree
Obviously they said they could remove the mushrooms....but I don't really enjoy lentils so I asked for the Quattro Formaggi Crushed Potatoes instead. Which he said he wasn't sure they could do...but they did! and I loved it.
IMG_3356.jpg

I pretty much licked the plate it was so damn good.

we were by the kitchen so DH kept trying to guess what things were....he was wrong on what he thought was his but he loved this. Parmesan Pork Two Ways - Rotisserie pork tenderloin and braised Berkshire pork belly with Gigandes Bean Cassoulet and swiss chard
IMG_3357.jpg

Now DH doesn't really like beans (besides like basic black or baked) but he thought they were so good. He as well pretty much licked his plate. (I think he was soaking the sauce with his bread)

Of course we had to get dessert. I had been checking these out for months before! They all looked soooo good.
I got Lemon Cheese Cake - Served with fresh raspberry sauce. So my top favorite flavors in anything are lemon and raspberry. and my favorite dessert is cheese cake. so this was a dessert made specifically for me. all my favorite things wrapped up in one. it was sooooooo good

IMG_3361.jpg

DH got Warm Chocolate Banana Torte - Served with vanilla ice cream. This was another OMG dessert. DH wanted to eat every bit of it (including the insane decoration) but it was starting to defeat him. I don't really like banana flavored desserts but...this was so good as well.

IMG_3364.jpg

if we go back i'm going to have such a hard time picking between these.

I would say this was one of the best meals of the trip. The food was fantastic, the service was amazing. Everyone was so so nice to us and we were never rushed. We enjoyed the entire meal and experience. We would def go back (I think we are for our one year anniversary trip!) If you have a chance to go here do it, you will not be disappointed! its worth every penny.

thanks for a great update. I love eating at Citricos but my husband prefers eating at Narcoossee's.

Thanks! I still would like to try Narcoosee's but I have a feeling DH will always talk me into Citricos. Just looking at the food makes me hungry for it!

Sorry I have been such a slacker...School has started and i'm deep into Craft/list mode. ANYWAY

Day 7 Part 1

Today We had breakfast at Ohana's. We arrived around 10 mins early, checked in and took our photo.

Photo0176.jpg

Around 15 mins later we were seated and given juice and asked what else we would like. I, of course, got coffee and DH got Chocolate Milk.

Out with our drinks came this...
IMG_4125.jpg

which made me so so happy.

I do not remember what fruits were in the juice....be seriously its the greatest juice i've ever had. I wished they bottled it and sold it. YUM.

So Ohana's BF is servers Family style.....so I asked if they could just put the meat on another dish. Well...instead we both got our own!

However first up was these sticky buns. (they called is bread but it was really sweet) I think it was Pineapple coconut and Cinnamon raisin or something? Again. Wow...I loved them!! My favorite was the coconut one (which I got all to myself because DH hates coconut) and fresh fruit.
IMG_3395.jpg

(coconut is on left)
IMG_3399.jpg

You can see the awesome juice in this picture.

Then Mickey Waffles
IMG_3405.jpg

Maybe its because all the other Mickey Waffles had been sitting out at a buffet....but these were def the best of the trip!

IMG_3406.jpg

Mine
IMG_3407.jpg

DH's

Okay...now this is really a typical BF and its similar to what the buffets have. but this food beat all the other character BF that we had. The food was just SO good. Even the eggs tasted better.

The characters came around pretty quickly and at good times.
IMG_3410.jpg

This is my favorite picture.

The only problem was Lilo......she was no where to be found and we waited around for a long time to get our photo. (I really wanted one!!) So we grabbed our photo and then ran out!

I would Highly recommend eating here! I was so surprised with how good the food was. We will def go back! (I wouldn't mind some right now in fact...) The Servers were also extremely friendly.

Great update, We are trying ohana for dinner this trip. b'fast looks yummy too. I think it is great how the chef at citricos made you something special instead if you having to eat the veg option. disney magic :thumbsup2 Looking forward to more.

Haven't had breakfast there yet but am assuming since it's Poly, you were drinking liliquoi juice, which is guava, passion fruit and mango (at least this is what DH tells me). LOVE IT!!!

One of the best perks of staying CL at the Poly is that you can just totally grab some in the middle of the day. It's what we drink when we get back from the parks in the afternoon.

We had dinner there too (its a few days later) You won't be disappointed! Though heres a tip. don't eat much before! Yeah Citricos is super accommodating. It was a great experience!

Ooooh...Thank you! yum.....I miss. so so good. I am so jealous! I want to drink it all day long. We will have to make it a goal to stay CL just for that!

I think I told you that O'hana's breakfast is my favorite. I am so glad you liked it. Isn't that juice just heavenly? They really need to bottle it I agree. I would drink it everyday! :rotfl: I am glad that they were so good with your requests for no meat.

I'm so ashamed. It's "lilikoi". I spelled it wrong. I'm waiting for the phone call which asks me to return my Poly Addict membership card :guilty:
