a value resort compares to...

thats not entirely true. disney sends out pin codes to people who have been before.

NO!!!

I have been more times then I can count

I have NEVER received a pin code.

At Marriott I don't have depend on the "kindness" of Disney to reward me. They reward me for loyality automatically.

The "DISNEY STANDARD" is charge more provide less and 'dress it up'

I don't blame them it works! They are FULL!

:confused3 we always get pin codes. about 2 a year and ive only stayed on property a handfull of times. but i also sign up for everything and always check the "send me promotions" boxes.

but i also dont think its really fair to compare the two. marriott is a nation wide chain. they have hundreds of hotels and anywhere you go you have the choice to stay with them. you have the choice between them and 20 other hotels in the area. they want you to choose them.
disney is a resort. theres in one of each hotel. if you want to stay there fine, but they dont need to hope you choose them over the super 8. the average travel is either going to stay on property or they arent. there isnt competition.

I think that POR would be close to a 70's Ramada. I think Disney's values are better than that on the inside. The walls & doors of the guest rooms, however, remind me of budget chain hotels.

The transportation and food courts at the values are better than some of Disney's deluxe resorts so it's really hard to just say "the values are like this kind of hotel."

We're another that has never gotten a pin code but I've also signed up anywhere I could. We have stayed on property at least once or twice a year for many years now. Maybe we are not in the target group - they don't have to give us an incentive to come back. I don't have many complaints about Disney but I do wish they did have some kind of "frequent flyer" program for ALL returning guests. I don't expect a 40% off code every time but some kind of way to accumulate "points" would be nice.

I agree with most comments about comparisons. I would place Disney rooms above Days Inn and below Fairfield Inn but that's just the room. I choose to stay at a Disney resort and pay more for the location, themeing and transportation. I have never had trouble with the cleanliness of the rooms.

You don't think it's fair to compare Disney to other hotels? Do you think it's fair for them to charge you more for less? If the parks were "worse" then your local Six Flags would it still be ok because it's "Disney"? When they decide that 'dirty' rooms are ok because "it's Disney" is that going to be OK?

I don't agree with the prevailing mood on this board of "give them a pass it's Disney" Shouldn't we expect MORE not less since it is Disney?

They do need you to pick them. There are options in the Orlando area. LOTS AND LOTS of them.

i said you couldnt compare how the two do their deals. what are you reading? we were talking about how the marriott does a frequent visiter type program and you were complaining that disney doesnt do the same.:confused3
but to indulge you:
do i think its fair that they charge more for less? yes i do. why shouldnt they? they have people who want to spend the money and stay there. its called good business.
if the parks were worse than 6 flags? well i dont do fairy tale, so the question is irrelevant.
if i had a dirty room i would switch rooms, it hasnt happened yet. shame on anyone who waits till theyre home to complain about it on a chat forum.

no, sorry, there is no competition. sure there are lots or hotels in the disney area. disney isnt in competition with them. they are in competition with each other. disney doesnt have to be in competition with them because of where their resort are(in the resort) and what they are(disney themed resorts. many people go to disney wanting the "disney experience" and forums like this promote that. so these people dont even consider off site. then there are the people that wont consider staying on, disney isnt too concerned with them because theyre still coming and spending their money. the people that actually compare the two(as far as ammenities and value) are few and far between.

btw..i dont think any of my posts have been "give them a pass its disney" i think you are reading things i havent writen. but, this is a disney forum i would expect many people to have taht attitude, thats why theyre here, they love disney.

I love Disney or I wouldn’t go back every year, but I don’t wear rose colored Mickey glasses. I like certain onsite perks (EMH), so I stay onsite, even at the extra cost. I have an AP so the parking means nothing and I don’t use package delivery because it takes too darn long. Disney is a corporation with a CEO, board of directors and stock holders. They will push to the limits to make the biggest profit possible, as they should. Disney does not get a pass just because it is Disney. I think a Super 8 is a pretty fair comparison, room wise. One I’ve made many times.

Value rooms are small. There are no interior hallways. No room service. No free fridge. No free Internet. No complimentary breakfast. I do not think Disney is “cleaner” than other hotels. I have had rotten mousekeeping services—and have complained at the time without anything being resolved. From my experience and from what I’ve read numerous times, Disney tries to make you feel better about your problem, but doesn’t actually solve the problem. Eventually, you have to move on and enjoy your vacation. Spending hours fighting with management doesn’t do you any good. Again, I have not enjoyed service that is better than anywhere else—good and equal to other places, but not better just because, sometimes it’s even worse—Hilton/Marriot would solve the problem. The days of “The Disney Way” disappeared, slowly, over the last 5-10 years or so.

For me, the bottom line is this... when I go to Disney, I want to be immersed in the Disney experience. I want things to be as hassle free as possible. We stayed off-site once at Kids Village in Kissimmee when I was a kid, and the drive in was a hassle. When we went back to rest (my sister had cancer), we decided it just wasn't worth the hassle to go back. To me, the value does offer what I am looking for. I wouldn't call it a Super 8, maybe a Best Western, but without the hassle.

Just to add to the discussion and especially to what CarolA said about comparing the values to a Fairfield Inn, at another chain I can accumulate points, rewards and - sometimes most importantly - recognition as a return guest. :goodvibes

Disney does not reward or recognize its return guests, nor do they tend to give extra credence to their complaints. This is a frustration for me. :headache:

My gold-level Marriott card means that this past year my husband or the two of us have spent 50+ nights in their properties. We are the key to their business, and even if it's all mental when they thank us for returning, it makes a difference.

Not sure what type of recognition you mean exactly but we have been 'welcomed back' quite a few times especially at the Grand floridian.
And i do believe sometimes some of the magical experiences are given to certain return guests.

I get at least 2 pin codes during the year.

I don't think its fair to compare Disney to other hotels because those hotels cannot win. There is no outside hotel that can give me a view of the Magic Kingdom.
and supply and demand determines what they can and will charge.

There are lots of options in orlando but for so many that list gets knocked down quickly because they want to stay onsite.

There is no way I will ever stay offsite if for no other reason than i do not want to travel from the hotel to a parking lot and take a tram to a ferry to get to the MK.
I like to walk out of my GF room and in minutes be at the MK. Not one thing can be said to compare that experience.
I wish i had more options...more Disney Deluxe options. :)
