A Two Short, Too Different Spring Break Trip (Time to Say Goodbye)

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!

I hope your students enjoy the Tacos. Yumm! :thumbsup2

Donald in the sombrero is so cute.
Lexi really regrets not buying that one. :)

Wish me luck, it's my inspection day.....:goodvibes .....I'd rather be on a AK safari!

Donald is cute in his sombrero. He sat on my desk in the afternoon.

I hope the inspection went well.
If I lived close to Disney World, I think I would go over to AK for afternoon walks on the trails and a ride on the safari after school quite frequently.

I guess I never thought how big a giraffe's vertebrate would be, but that is simply gigantic!!!

Have fun celebrating Cinco de Mayo today! We get to look forward to more storms. :scared:

We didn't have storms, so the kids got to play outside this afternoon. They did postpone our field day from Friday to Monday, though, because of the forecast.

Sadly I too knew the answer, must be since we do animals in third grade and my girls love the zoo!

Have a great Tuesday!

I think I would enjoy working in the education department at Disney World. I love to study about animals, and I could share my enjoyment of that and my fondness for Disney all at once..

This would be the perfect picture for an AK brochure...ad...etc!

Go MeMom! :woohoo:

Happy Cinco de Mayo!! Aw..if I was still in high school, we'd be having a fiesta today in Spanish class!

I took Spanish when I was going to base schools (Air Force) because it was just a standard part of the curriculum. I took French in high school, but I remember just about nothing, and I don't think the French even speak French any more. For whatever reason that I truly do not understand, in the school I was at at the time, the kids who made A's and B's took French, and the rest of the kids took Spanish. We would have all been better off with Spanish!

Interesting about the AK opening, i just love that opening! Second to MK!

It's great when they do the whole big opening. I guess the drive-by was cool for those who had never seen the whole production. If you make it to an AK opening, or anyone else that is going, you guys can report back to tell if you had the whole show or the drive-thru version.

Ooooh, I want tacos for lunch! MeMom, could you send one up here for me? :lmao:

Sadly, we ended up with no tacos. I ended up leaving too late to be able to make them, so I was going to order them at Taco Bell and go and pick them up on my planning time. When I called for the price, it was too much. My team teacher and I do stuff like this together, since I have both groups for Social Studies and Science. It was going to be $45, and he did not give a discount for school groups, so I couldn't afford that. We decided we'll do something on Friday to cap off the week. We're continuing our study of Mexico all week anyway, so it'll still be relevant. We'll probably have nachos and drinks for a Fun Friday activity. I can do both for less than $45, and it'll be a good Friday thing to keep dangling over their heads all week. :)

Ok, I want to go back to school and I demand MeMom is my teacher. You are always doing such cool things for your kids! Tacos on Cinco de Mayo? Fun! I bet they love seeing Disney touches here and there too. Great AK pictures. Are you a EE rider? I'm really nervous about that one for some reason.

That idea has now turned into Nachos on Ocho de Mayo!
We're focusing on Mexico all week, so it'll be just fine.

The kids do love the Disney touches. I have the plush dolls in the long window, a Disney calendar on the bulletin board, and Disney popcorn buckets to hold crayons and pencils.

I have ridden Everest once. It was a little too much for me, to be honest. I will probably ride it again someday, but I'm not in a hurry for it. I would have ridden it in March when my friend went, if she had really wanted to, but she didn't care one way or the other, so we didn't. She likes milder coasters, so Big Thunder Mountain was perfect for us. We rode it twice.

i wonder if goofy got a memom in the picture he was taking?

I hope not.
And if he did, I hope he will not be posting it!

*********************************

I think I told you guys a lie.
I know I did, actually.
I said I'd post Kilimanjaro Safari pictures last night, but I didn't end up doing that.
I didn't come through on tacos or on pictures yesterday.
I am just a bum.

Anyway, here's my explanation and apology, for anyone who checked back in to see animals:

It's all John's fault!

He went out of town for work, so Jill and the girls ended up coming up here. Since we won't all be together for Mother's Day, and it's rare that all three of my kids are together at once, we called the boys and told them to meet us for an early dinner. We all went to the Rainforest Cafe at Opry Mills and ate good meals while wild animals roamed around us and thunderstorms crackled overhead.

I did take pictures, so I'll let Jill load those this morning when she gets up, and she can either put them on her herself, or I will do it tonight.

We shared a plate of very delicious cheesesticks, and then we each got something different to eat. I took pictures, but who knows how good they'll be. If they're bad, I'll blame the lighting and Brooklynn wiggling on the seat next to me. If they're good, I'll give the credit to pure luck!

It was nice to have everyone around the same table, so that was a good Mother's Day gift.

Trent said it was too much of a teaser for him - too much like being in Disney World, and he was ready to go to now! His secret enjoyment is beginning to come to the surface and not be quite as secret anymore. He admits to browsing through my Birnbaum's if it is left out on a table. He's also becoming quite interested in the plans for July, although he's still mostly interested in the eating plans.

Anyway, after dinner, we went to get Trent a new laptop, and then we met up with a friend that hadn't had a chance to see Bella yet.

So, I apologize for no safari pictures yesterday. I don't foresee anything stopping me from doing them this evening.

And just so you'll trust me this time, I present to you the first animal.

A Hidden Kudu!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday, and I hope to see you back here tonight for a safari.

For real.

Unless John messes that up again. :)

Well, our inspection went great! The only thing he commented on was the volume of the music in the store? :confused3 Okay, I'll take it. If that's the only thing he could find, we are doing a lot right.

Nachos on Friday will be fabulous! :thumbsup2 Donald can be in charge of the drinks.

Diner at the Rainforest Cafe sounds like the best Mother's Day gift! :woohoo:
Your kids are soo good to you. I'm happy you got to spend time with all of them together.

Wow, Trent is becoming a Disney fan for sure. No secret, he has been swept away in the magic. He is not alone, lots of people enjoy the WDW food. :rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:Love the hidden Kudu, too funny!!!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday! :)

Your reason for no pictures is a great one! Lucky to have an early Mother's Day dinner with your kids.... that is way more impt than posting here.

Your early mother's day dinner sounds great! Can't wait to see the pics!

It was inevitable that Trent's Disney love would come bubbling to the surface. That must make you so happy!

Have a great day!

I feel the same way about eating at Rainforest Cafe! It makes me long for Disney even more. That's too funny that Trent feels the same way.

he sounds like ray! ray always pretends that he doesn't enjoy it and that i'm a freak because i love it so much. but every now and then he lets his enthusiam for WDW show. for example, the other night when our friends from tallahassee were here we were talking about our last trip and ray said, "i can't believe you guys live in florida and you've never been to disney at christmas time. it's so awesome." and sometimes i'll pick up his ipod and the last thing that he played was the fantasmic soundtrack. :rotfl:

i'm glad you got to see everyone for an early mother's day dinner. i wish i could go home for the weekend but i can't because i'm going to NYC in two weeks and just went home a couple of weeks ago for margot. i try to spread out my visits so i don't have a long hiatus! i'm sending off my packages to my mom, grandmother and stepmother today. i got my mom a paula deen recipe organizer, my grandmother a new windchime and my stepmom (who is brett's mother) a framed picture of margot.

by the way, i think i'm gonna try to be in nashville for father's day weekend, which i believe is the weekend you guys are meeting up, right?

Jill and VandyFan- It is nice to know that someone else shares in my sadness. Thanks for the pictures and links about Opryland. It brought back a lot of good memories. If I ever run across any pictures I will be glad to try and share them. My grandmother and grandfather we the ones who usually took us to Opryland and they were not big pictures takers. I do remember seeing a few though. I will definitely let you all know if we get to Nashville at the end of the year.

Memom- We will go see the lights. We saw them about 3 years ago and they are really pretty. Do you go each year?

We would have all been better off with Spanish!

Yeah. We had Spanish and German in our high school. Most of us took Spanish and a few took German. But, I don't know why you would take German when Spanish is what we really need to know!

Anyway, here's my explanation and apology, for anyone who checked back in to see animals:

It's all John's fault!

Thanks alot John! :snooty:

Haha, it's alright MeMom. It's understandable to have a life outside of the DIS!

What a great way to spend "Mother's Day" (even if it was a little early!). I know how you love spending time with your kids and the girls so I'm sure you were just loving it last night. Speaking of the Rainforest Cafe just made me want to go there! Too bad there's none around here :guilty:

Thats so cute to hear that Trent is getting excited about WDW! I did that favor that you asked me a while back and I couldn't find him! He might have it blocked so only his friends can see him.

Can't wait to see your pictures later! :thumbsup2

I just have to chime in on my love for Opryland, too! I had so much fun there as a child. I can remember getting off at the exit that is now Opry Mills and having to sit in traffic around that steep curve. The excitement would build and build until, finally we were there. Don't get me wrong, Opry Mills is a great mall, but I never get that feeling on the exit ramp anymore.

I have a funny story about DH and Opryland. We grew up together, and our church youth group would take a trip to Opryland every summer. One summer when he was probably in 10th or 11th grade (and I was 7th or 8th) he brought his girlfriend who was from another school. As we were leaving Opryland of course we all looked horrible from all the water rides. The girlfriend pulled out a battery operated curling iron and proceeded to curl her hair in the parking lot! Bless her, I know she was just trying to make a good impression. DH has yet to live that one down.

We comment on the left over rocks, too. Last time we explained to DD that Opryland was to us like WDW is to her! :)

Good for you on the inspection.

As for the music, wouldn't it be nice if you could play Disney music???
I am able to get away with playing Disney CD's while my kids are doing independent work sometimes, and it makes me a little bit happy. :)

Your reason for no pictures is a great one! Lucky to have an early Mother's Day dinner with your kids.... that is way more impt than posting here.

Yeah, I guess it was a good reason. They are the world to me!

Your early mother's day dinner sounds great! Can't wait to see the pics!

It was inevitable that Trent's Disney love would come bubbling to the surface. That must make you so happy!

Have a great day!

He and John have both been caught doing secret Disney research. John even checks out the trip report and looks at allears and stuff, I think.

I feel the same way about eating at Rainforest Cafe! It makes me long for Disney even more. That's too funny that Trent feels the same way.

I asked them what ride we were going to go on when we finished eating!

If Father's Day is the weekend of the 20th. I am pretty sure that's when tinkgurl said she's coming through. I hope it works out for you to come. That would be fun!

Memom- We will go see the lights. We saw them about 3 years ago and they are really pretty. Do you go each year?

We went year before last, but before then, we hadn't been in several years. It was very pretty, but it's not as good as a Disney World Christmas.

If you come to Nashville after the 28th, we're going to be in Disney World.

I'd be interested in seeing Opryland pictures. When I have time, I'll have to go dig up some old ones and put them on here.

Yeah. We had Spanish and German in our high school. Most of us took Spanish and a few took German. But, I don't know why you would take German when Spanish is what we really need to know!

Haha, it's alright MeMom. It's understandable to have a life outside of the DIS!

In this area, the Spanish speaking population is growing rapidly. Our school is 1/3 Hispanic. I wish I did know how to speak the language.

What a great way to spend "Mother's Day" (even if it was a little early!). I know how you love spending time with your kids and the girls so I'm sure you were just loving it last night. Speaking of the Rainforest Cafe just made me want to go there! Too bad there's none around here

I'm going to put pictures up tonight.
I think there are only 13 states with a Rainforest Cafe, so we're lucky!

I just have to chime in on my love for Opryland, too! I had so much fun there as a child. So the wet-heads are the ones who end up with the good husbands, huh?
I guess I'll have to leave the ponchos in my bag when I ride Kali and Splash Mountain then! ;)

That is so true about sitting in the line on the ramp! It was so exciting!

I bet that was a really fun dinner, having all of your kids together at once MeMom. I really love that Trent is showing his enthusiasm for Disney!

Yes, because the way their schedules are, we don't get together often. Even when Jill is visiting, the boys are in and out, and they may only cross paths for a few minutes. A sit down meal is rare. It was very nice.

Enough chatter.
Here are some Rainforest Cafe Not in Animal Kingdom pictures.

Brooklynn followed the frog feet, and we followed Brooklynn.

IMG_0319.jpg

We waited for about a minute by the fish tanks.

IMG_0323.jpg

I wanted good pictures.
I got this.

IMG_0324.jpg

IMG_0325.jpg

The menu.

IMG_0327.jpg

Everything we got was good.

Jill got the pot roast.

IMG_0328.jpg

Obviously we forgot to take pictures right away.

IMG_0329.jpg

There used to be a country fried steak right here.

IMG_0331.jpg

That's what Drew got. He gave me a bite, and it was very good!

There used to be potatoes here.

IMG_0332.jpg

That's Trent's plate. He ate the potatoes while he was waiting for them to bring the bacon that they had forgotten to put on his sandwich.

He did not give me a bite, so I can't say how good his was.

When we were through, we went over by the Pop Century looking t-shirt and got a picture of the five people I love most on earth.

IMG_0333.jpg

The boys left, and the girls made a loop around the mall.

Brooklynn got a special treat.

IMG_0337.jpg

So did Jill and I.
She got a Rocky Road Cluster, I think.
I got a pretzel rod that reminded me of a zebra dome.

Bella wanted a bite!

IMG_0341.jpg

Brooklynn and Bella at the Epcot fountain outside the Disney Store.

IMG_0343.jpg

IMG_0345.jpg

Brooklynn rode the carousel.

IMG_0352.jpg

IMG_0357.jpg

She and the horse were checking out the pictures on the ceiling.

IMG_0361.jpg

This reminded me of the pizza delivery trucks at Pop.

IMG_0363.jpg

Kermit was driving, if you can tell.

Anyway, that was our Opry Mills and Rainforest trip.
I will start working on the safari pictures now.

Kilimanjaro Safari was first on our agenda for our Animal Kingdom day.

Here's an unhidden kudu.

That was our first ride.
We had a decent amount of animal sightings, and we saw the cheetahs and the lioness walking around, so that made it pretty good.
We were off to a good start.

Oh, I like the sound of nachos for ocho de mayo! :lmao:

You're reasons for not posting last night are some of the best imaginable! What a great way to celebrate Mother's Day -- a yummy meal with your favorite people!

That crocodile must be well fed -- he didn't even seem interested in the bird!

Love the Rainforest Cafe and safari pictures! Thats great that you were lucky enough to see the lioness walking around! I know those lions are usually lazy and don't let people get good pictures of them like you did.
