A Touch of Disney 2021 Experience - Superthread - Read First Post for Updates - Updated with Full Menus

ToD report from Sunday, March 28

We flew in from SLC on Saturday afternoon and stayed at the new JW Marriott. LOVE the location! Cutting through the Gardenwalk, we shaved a quarter mile off our distance from going around via Harbor and Katella (I tracked it on my Garmin both ways). On Sunday, we left the hotel about 11 and walked over. At 11:22 we were approaching temp check. There was a short line at security, and then (coming from Harbor) you walk all the way around the central courtyard area on the Disneyland side to come through the entry for the lines. We joined our line about 11:35 (roughly 3/4 of the way back in the courtyard) and they had just started letting people in. Our line moved quickly and we were in the park by 11:45.

We immediately got in line for the Marketplace Cashier next to Carthay Circle (note there is another back by the bridge to Paradise Pier). While in that line for 45 minutes, we went ahead and made a mobile order for Smokejumpers. We could have chosen to pick up right away, but not knowing how long the line would take, we opted for 12:30-1, which was perfect.

An IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MARKETPLACE CASHIER!
Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but we didn't realized until we got up to the front that we could ONLY order from the six Marketplace locations (D-lish, California Craft Beers, LA Style, Golden Dreams, Uncork California and Cluck-a-Doodle-Moo). It was still worth waiting in that line, as we were able to use our receipts to pick up at the booths when we wanted, rather than having to choose a mobile order return time, but we did end up using mobile order for the things we couldn't get there. At the booths, we often saw long lines at the Mobile Pick-up side, and very little or no line at the Marketplace Pick-up side, so I figured we traded one 45-minute line for all the rest that day. Also, confirming that you can't use the Disney gift card for alcohol, but the cashier was more than happy to split our order into two so we could use it for the food. We just carried two receipts, which was no big deal.

The weather was HOT (almost 90) and we did struggle to find seats in the shade after the first 90 minutes or so. I noticed a lot of manager-types in dress clothes and name tags walking around and taking notes, checking on seating areas, asking people if they needed help or just striking up conversations. They also had VIP tour guides out for guest assistance. Most of the day we saw great mask compliance and good social distancing (except in Elias & Co). We visited the Legacy Passholder corner and picked up our magnets and buttons, and when we purchased something with our discount at the Art of Disney, they gave us an additional 65th anniversary DL magnet.

By about 5:30pm we were getting tired and had had all the food and drink we wanted, so we decided to call it a day. A lot of people were leaving at that same time, and just a few coming in. Your ticket does allow you to come and go, which we considered, but the crowds were steady all day so I'm not sure anyone really took advantage of that.

Overall, I'm really glad we went. It was definitely a unique experience and it was fun to see the excitement from the locals to have a little bit of Disney magic finally back. We didn't see any rides testing but there were CMs coming in and out of closed areas and closed attractions, so they're definitely getting ready. We'll be watching for when they open up to out of state travelers!

Same for Sunday - 1200-530pm -- the walk from Mickey's is LONG and do wish the tram was play. They need to figure out the spacing and use of that sooner than later as the distance is quite a bit of a haul to start/end day.

We didn't take advantage of the Marketplace kiosks as planned most eats out with mobile.

FYI order early. By 200pm: the next orders were pushing 400pm at popular places. And when at 400pm - took 20minutes to get our Smores Shake. -- so plan accordingly.

Crowds were good. The worst was at the arcades and about 4 parties deep on the wait lines. Ironically the store had a much longer line!

Characters were sparse -- probably because of the heat -- it was a burner yesterday and people really just wanted shade between 200-330pm

Advice: use cloth or surgical mask in this heat -- N95 or similar will be problematic.

We attended last weekend. It was very nice to be back in the park. Really didn’t miss the rides. Wanted to soak it all in. We enjoyed the day. I agree with all the other experiences previously mentioned. About 5pm the crowd is noticeably thinner. At night all the lights made the atmosphere just as magical as any other park day. The only thing I could add is my pedometer says it was about 2500 steps through the tram walkway. From parking to park gate.

We never had to wait more than a few minutes for our mobile orders. We walked up, checked in with a cast member (prior to the pick-up line) and they would ask for our name and push our order through! Longest we had to wait was for a few folks in front of us picking up at the same time.

Hey! For everyone who has been so far, what have been your favorite foods? I'd love some help narrowing down my list hehehe.

The gumbo was excellent, ummm, in the booth near corndog castle. Also always love Bengal bbq, also got the street tacos from the same place, can’t remember the name of that place either lol across from lucky fortune cookery. Pepperoni pizza rolls were also yummy... I could have eaten 10 of them!

Agree with the Monte Cristo! In the past, when I've gotten it at BB or Cafe Orleans, it's yummy but often a grease bomb. The one I got at Smokejumpers on Monday was the perfect size, and fried to perfection. Amazing!

OK..... confession. I've NEVER had the Monte Cristo. I've always been too afraid that eating THAT much greasy and sugary food would make me throw up on a ride. Or make me feel so ill in combo with heat/walking around that I'd have to go back to the hotel for the day. But given that there aren't any rides and I won't be zigzagging the park taking advantage of MaxPasses all day, I am gonna give it a go! The fact that it's 1/2 size helps too :D

lol I would always share! No way would I be able to eat the entire thing on my own.

half size is perfect and they still give you the jam :)

Carbonara Mac n Cheese w/ Bacon at Golden Dreams
Cookies & Cream Churro at Cozy Cone 2
Monte Cristo at Smokejumpers (I just wish they would have offered a small side of pommes frites as well!)

Is the candy shop next to Clarabelle's open? I'd like to buy some toffee but not sure if I have to go to DTD/Marcelines or if I can just purchase it inside DCA. TIA!

Seconding the Monte Cristo and Carbonara Mac and Cheese.
Watermelon Agua Fresca was SO refreshing (it was 88 degrees the day we were there).
Karl Strauss Endless Summer Hard Seltzer was also good.

We were there yesterday. Loved it. We started off with lunch at Carthay. I was watching the line to enter and I feared it would feel too crowded for my daughter. But once we got in, people spread out and it was very comfortable. Never had a problem finding tables. We did run into other friends and so we ranged in group size from 3 to 9 as people joined or departed. I will say 2 were kids, and while all adults were vaxxed we still kept some social distance between us. But it was so good to have gotten to visit. We were there from 1130-830p. And we didn't see everything! Never made it to the AP area. Oh, the coke and jack freeze is gooooooodddddd......

I’m here now (Saturday 3rd). Lines for DCA are backed up to mid esplanade at 10:45. Everyone is spaced out, so it’s probably not as long as it seems. I’d usually rather wait until after the initial crunch to go in, but I want to make sure we don’t get too far out on mobile orders.

M&F parking was closed when we got here, but there was no wait at Simba, and zero wait at temp check/security to get into DTD. So initial arrival was hassle free.

Mobile ordering opened around 11:15, and while most places have availability starting at 11:30, Smokejumpers is already to 12:15.

They started letting people in shortly after 11:15.

I’d give good reviews to everything we had: the Monte Cristo, S’mores Shake, Dole Whip, and Mac n Cheese Cone.

Mobile Ordering worked great, although it was annoying that it didn’t save the dining cards and you can only use one at a time. The only hiccup was for the Cozy Cone where the mobile order pickup line stretched all the way past Supply Sgt building!

Marketplace order lines looked really long but I only did mobile order.

Games are open. They are handing out 65th anniversary buttons instead of regular prizes - win or lose.

Surprised that more shops aren’t open throughout the park. I don’t really see why they couldn’t have opened the merch and other snack locations like normal.

All in all, I was honestly expecting it to be a lot more of a hassle to park, get in, and manage orders. But it wasn’t.

Having a great time and can’t wait for the park to open back up.
