A Touch of Disney 2021 Experience - Superthread - Read First Post for Updates - Updated with Full Menus

An article summing up the drama we all went/going through lol

I have a link I won't be able to use if anyone needs it, it currently says 10 minutes.

(The dates we needed sold out)

A little more than I'd like to spend for sure. Universal Hollywood just announced their event at $48pp with 5 tastings. This is more in line with what I was expecting from the Disney event. That being said, Disney knows their market/fanbase and I would not be surprised if a $100 ticket is in the works for future dates.

I LOVE that everyone was being supportive and sharing the queue links here to help each other out.

But...

Doesn’t this system just incentivize people to use every phone, laptop, tablet, and desktop at their disposal in the future?

And certainly someone with bad intentions could use this method to make hundreds of connections and give them to an inner circle or even sell them. I wonder if the queue site has protections against that?

I mean, maybe? But it's the same system that Disney uses with merchandise, and they don't seem to be all that concerned about the big resellers.

If anything - this is apparently the same queue system that Ticketmaster uses, so I'm assuming that some of the randomization that people saw in the first few minutes is intentional - to spread access out to make it harder for users like that to dominate.

But I don't know that Disney really cares that much, honestly. It's rare that they're going to have events like this that sell out this quickly, and I don't know if people even trust the reseller market for DL special event tickets.

People use bots regularly with item drops on shopDisney. MerchPass even made it so it rewards people who make several accounts. I've reported successfully (they got removed) eBay accounts selling MerchPass winning accounts over the last several months (as it's a violation of eBay and shopDisney TOS). But they always exist. I've even reported with proof blatant bot users directly to Disney. Disney tries, but often fall to stop then completely.

Using several devices has also always been a thing with reservations (particularly WDW) where it's much more difficult and ROTR. People will enlist friends and loved ones at home with internet that isn't being pushed to the limits by several thousands of others in close proximity. The strategy has worked.

It's sadly nothing new. And it's why I had so many browsers and devices set up because I'm fully aware this system exists. I doubt there's any way to really combat it either in any meaningful way. The current way at least helps a little with bots by randomizing everyone even after the queue has opened.

I mentioned it before, but if I had known what system was going to be used, I would have warned everyone to have several ready to go and how to save links in advance instead of in the middle of everything. But many of us were doing that anyways because we know it's what was likely going to be needed.

I have my issues with it. But I do feel it was one of the better choices given the options I've experienced with other virtual queues. I would have been happier with a time at least in this case, though. I do feel that was a mistake to not tell anyone because it meant we all bombarded the site regularly for hours. I also would have preferred a similar system to Build a Bear that actually makes it clear they can email you a link to return to your place in line and it tells you when you're close to your turn. Plus they tell you what time the queue opens (and gave a similar waiting room prior to that).

Glad to see some good news from folks! Thanks everyone for sharing their perspective and links! I'm not planning on trying to go until early May, but now I'm nervous about when they will or won't announce more tickets on sale. Do we need to check every morning going forward?!

I got into the virtual waiting room at 9:15. After waiting, then being told sales had paused a number of times, then going back to a multi hour wait, I was finally able to buy tickets around 1. The weekends were all sold out, but we were fine with the first Monday of opening week. Happy to have the tickets but surely there’s a better way than to subject us all to such an ordeal!
