A thought for the Day

Shrines! Shrines! Surely you don't believe in the gods. What's your argument? Where's your proof?

Brenda, I am so glad you liked some of what I posted. I have been thinking of you as of lately and hope that all is going well with you. Please know you have been in my thoughts and if you ever need anyone, I'm here, just a PM or an e-mail away. {hugs}

I also see that Dan didn't come for you... if you like I could always call in sick on Friday and we can drive down to WDW and surprise him ;)

Very nice Heather... thank you so much :)

I just stumbled across this quote and like it very much!

Happiness comes from spiritual wealth, not material wealth... Happiness comes from giving, not getting. If we try hard to bring happiness to others, we cannot stop it from coming to us also. To get joy, we must give it, and to keep joy, we must scatter it
--- John Templeton

"Do you, good people, believe that Adam and Eve were created in the Garden of Eden and that they were forbidden to eat from the tree of knowledge? I do. The church has always been afraid of that tree. It still is afraid of knowledge. Some of you say religion makes people happy. So does laughing gas. So does whiskey. I believe in the brain of man. I'm not worried about my soul."

-- Clarence Darrow

It is amazing the extent to which some people will go
To portray an inflated version of themselves,
That does little more than give others an accurate view
Of a floundering ego crying for attention.

Groosch...he'd better hope he was right.

Usually when I'm this confident about something.....I'm wrong.

In our deepest moments of struggle, frustration, fear, and confusion, we are being called upon to reach in and touch our hearts. Then, we will know what to do, what to say, how to be. What is right is always in our deepest heart of hearts. It is from the deepest part of our hearts that we are capable of reaching out and touching another human being. It is, after all, one heart touching another heart.

--- Roberta Sage Hamilton

"Remind yourself that in this night you will face many challenges. But you have to face them and understand it 100 percent.... Obey GOD, his messenger, and don't fight among yourself where you become weak, and stand fast, GOD will stand with those who stood fast".

-- Mohamed Atta

It is essential to know that to be a happy person, a happy family, a happy society, it is very crucial to have a good heart, that is very crucial. World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just the absence of violence but the manifestation of human compassion.

--- Dalai Lama

""Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards."

Kierkegaard

Coeur is the French word for "heart." When we act with courage, we act from our hearts, not our heads alone. We boldly do what feels right. We may be scared if we're going against the grain, but we have confidence and faith supporting our actions.

Being courageous does not require going into battle, We do not have to be saving someone's life. It takes a lot of courage just to be honest with ourselves and others, to decide to change behaviors, and to leave destructive relationships.

-- Karen Casanova

Many nice thoughts Heather, and Elaine. Thanks. And a Happy Day to you also, Heather. :sunny:

Once a wise teacher was speaking to a group of eager young students. He gave them the assignment to go out and find a small, unnoticed flower somewhere. He asked them to study the flower for a long time.

"Get a magnifying glass and study the delicate veins in the leaves, and notice the nuances and shades of color. Turn the leaves slowly and observe their symmetry. And remember that this flower might have gone unnoticed and unappreciated if you had not found and admired it."

After the class returned, the teacher observed, "People are like that. Each one is different, carefully crafted, uniquely endowed. But you have to spend time with them to know this. So many people go unnoticed and unappreciated because no one has ever taken time with them and admired their uniqueness."

- John Powell

... There is a final reason I think that Jesus says, "Love your enemies." It is this: that love has within it a redemptive power. And there is a power there that eventually transforms individuals. That’s why Jesus says, "Love your enemies." Because if you hate your enemies, you have no way to redeem and to transform your enemies. But if you love your enemies, you will discover that at the very root of love is the power of redemption. You just keep loving people and keep loving them, even though they’re mistreating you. Here’s the person who is a neighbor, and this person is doing something wrong to you and all of that. Just keep being friendly to that person. Keep loving them. Don’t do anything to embarrass them. Just keep loving them, and they can’t stand it too long. Oh, they react in many ways in the beginning. They react with bitterness because they’re mad because you love them like that. They react with guilt feelings, and sometimes they’ll hate you a little more at that transition period, but just keep loving them. And by the power of your love they will break down under the load. That’s love, you see. It is redemptive, and this is why Jesus says love. There’s something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies.

I'm sure that there are American Christians who seek to embrace and "love" the suicidal/homicidal maniacs of AL QAEDA:mad:   .

How does the power of redemption via love of one's enemy square with the Old Testament admonition of, "An eye for an eye"????

I'm suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure that the BIG GUY in Heaven has a logical answer:rolleyes:
