A thought for the Day

We do not say that another world is not worth a single thought, but rather that this world is worth all our thoughts, and needs them.

Lemuel K. Washburn

Kindness is loving people more than they deserve.

The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of childhood into maturity

--Thomas Henry Huxley

I'm going to preach there was no Fall because there was nothing to fall from, and no Redemption because there was no Fall, and no Judgment because there wasn't the first two. Nothing matters but that Jesus was a liar.

Flannery O'Connor

Do not keep the alabaster boxes of your love and tenderness sealed up, until your friends are dead. Fill their lives with sweetness. Speak approving, cheering words while their ears can hear them and while their hearts can be thrilled and made happier by them. The kind things you mean to say when they are gone...say them before they go.

The moment that one loses confidence in God, or immortality in the universe, [one becomes] more self-reliant, more courageous, and the more solicitous of aid where only human aid is possible.

Samuel Putnam

Among the repulsions of atheism for me has been its drastic uninterestingness as an intellectual position. Where was the ingenuity, the ambiguity, the humanity (in the Harvard sense) of saying that the universe just happened to happen and that when we're dead we're dead?
~ John Updike

The love I seek is so deep, so faithful and true, I wonder if I will ever find someone that will love me in the way I desire. It goes deeper than passion, but as simple as politeness. I desire understanding, and an unfaltering trust. Someone that other than my Father, that I can run to when the world is cruel. Someone who will warm my heart with kindness and firmly speak truth to me in love. Someone that will sit and read with me but will also dance in the rain with me. Love is a funny thing. So often "found" and not kept. Why? Well it is because it was never found, for if it was it would be like a treasure, held tightly and never let go, valued above other things.

A. Steele

Stunning possibilities

There is much to fear, and yet there is vastly more for which to be thankful. How could we even know fear unless there was some frame of reference against which to view it?
The innate goodness of life and of all creation is overwhelming, and extends from the smallest particle of matter out to the most distant galaxies. The good and valuable things we take for granted in just a single hour's time could not be fully comprehended even after a thousand years of study.

Positive possibilities stretch out in every direction, and following just one of them opens up another equally magnificent set of new ones. Certainly there are obstacles, yet they are finite and massively outnumbered.

Against such a bright and shining background, the problems and difficulties themselves become opportunities for even further blessings. Indeed, those problems ultimately serve to strengthen and to deepen our appreciation for the best of who we are and what we can be.

For every sadness there are a million possible joys. Look closely, lovingly and gratefully at the stunning possibilities in every moment and open yourself up to the best of them.

-- Ralph Marston

Thanks for sharing that Dan. It's great!

Though thou shouldst be going to live three thousand years, and as many times ten thousand years, still remember that no man loses any other life than this which he now lives, nor lives any other than this which he now loses.

Marcus Aurelius

That little book sounds like pretty good, DD.

Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use [and] nothing is less important than which fork you use.

Now there is one I really like--I'm always amazed at how people put their limits on God! Thanks, Adam. :)
