A thought for the Day

Be patient and strong; for someday this pain will be useful to you.

Ovid

Unconditional happiness

Happiness is not the result of favorable conditions. That's backwards. Favorable conditions result from happiness. So what does it take to be happy? Nothing more than a willingness to be happy.
Happiness comes from the way you respond to life. There are people who have every reason to be miserable, but who still live with happiness and joy. In every life, there is room for happiness.

Everyone has challenges. Everyone has disappointments. Yet they do not have to get you down. True happiness comes not from the absence of problems. True, enduring happiness comes in spite of the problems.

Happiness is not a reaction, it is a choice. Let it be yours.

-- Ralph Marston

Heresy is a word which, when it is used without passion, signifies a private opinion. So the different sects of the old philosophers, Academians, Peripatetics, Epicureans, Stoics, &c., were called heresies.

Thomas Hobbes

"Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. . . . It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more."

Erica Jong

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

John F. Kennedy

"Nobody talks so constantly about God as those who insist that there is no God."

-- Heywood Broun

We are as great as our belief in human liberty -- no greater. And our belief in human liberty is only ours when it is larger than ourselves.

Archibald MacLeish

So very true, Catzeyes, so true. And yes, Lanshark, why is that, LOL?

On your way

What a sublime joy it is to be on your way, to be moving each moment with focus and commitment toward a destination you have chosen. When there is a purpose to your efforts, a purpose in which your heart is truly invested, it brings a blissful lightness even to the most imposing burdens.
Once you are on your way, momentum becomes your partner. By filling your moments with effective and productive action, you put time itself on your side. Your world can change in an instant from dismal to hopeful when you start making the real effort to do something about it. Certainly there will be setbacks and frustrations, yet even the most onerous setbacks still leave you with the desire and ability to move on ahead.

Get on your way and you'll discover conditions and events pushing you forward, conditions and events you previously thought would have only held you back. Get on your way, and you'll soon be turning liabilities into assets, weaknesses into strengths.

Express your commitment to make something positive happen by actually beginning to do it. You can think and plan and hope and dream, yet the real fulfillment begins as soon as you get on your way.

-- Ralph Marston

I love Ralph Marston............ more of the same ole, same ole:rolleyes:

I know not how I seem to others, but to myself I am but a small child wandering upon the vast shores of knowledge, every now and then finding a small bright pebble to content myself with while the vast ocean of undiscovered truth lay before me.

Isaac Newton

The greatest gift you can give anyone is your honest self. It's the only unique gift anyone can give.

-- Fred Rogers

"People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost."

H. Jackson Browne

One of the mysteries of life is how the boy who wasn't considered good enough to marry the daughter can be the father of the smartest grandchild in the world.;) ;) ;)

Thanks, Adam, for that thought. And nice to see you again. Hope your trip was a good one.

If you create the space and the desire to have love in your heart as your top priority, you'll start to see that you have the capacity to make loving decisions, and to have loving reactions, and to become nondefensive, and to become a better listener . . . . And pretty soon a little annoyance will come your way or someone will do something wrong . . . and you'll just find yourself forgiving them. You'll find yourself not wanting to be thrown off-center simply to follow some negative train of thought that's going to bring you somewhere you don't want to go. You'll find yourself able to stay in that feeling of love -- and when you do, almost everything else magically takes care of itself. . . . Love is the most important answer in life.

-- Richard Carlson

The moral decisions of others should be treated with respect, as long as such decisions do not conflict with the principle of tolerance.

Karl Popper

What you'll find

Whatever you are looking for is what you are most likely to find. Because your attention is naturally drawn toward and flavored by whatever you expect to see.
When you look for reasons to be dismayed, you will indeed find plenty of them. If, instead, you look for reasons to be hopeful and enthusiastic, those are the things you'll see. When you're on the lookout for things that offend you and things to complain about, you'll see them everywhere. If, on the other hand, you look to find things for which you can be truly thankful and appreciative, that is what you'll find.

Are you looking for excuses to fail or are you looking for reasons to succeed? Are you looking to just get through the day or are you looking to fill each moment with real value?

What exactly are you looking for today? Look for excellence, look for truth, look for value, look for the best, and you surely will find it.

-- Ralph Marston

In order to get what you want, you must do something you've never done.

Pointing to another world will never stop vice among us; shedding light over this world can alone help us.

Walt Whitman,

"Character is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. There are too many people who think that the only thing that's right is to get by, and the only thing that's wrong is to get caught."

J. C. Watts
