A thought for the Day

Until you make peace with who you are, you'll never be content with what you have.--Doris Mortman

Every pulpit is a pillory, in which stands a hired culprit, defending the justice of his own imprisonment.

Robert Green Ingersoll (1833-1899)

"It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving."
--Mother Teresa of Avila

Life is too short to spend your precious time trying to convince a person who wants to live in gloom and doom otherwise. Give lifting that person your best shot, but don't hang around long enough for his or her bad attitude to pull you down. Instead, surround yourself with optimistic people.

-- Zig Ziglar, Success for Dummies

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are endless.--Mother Teresa

Let joy flow

Joy does not come about as the result of agreeable circumstances. Joy is, rather, a powerful and reliable cause of agreeable circumstances. There's no need to wait for things to be just right before you begin to enjoy them. Instead, enjoy what is, and that joy will begin to transform what is into what you would like it to be.
Have you ever wondered why some people always seem to enjoy the best that life has to offer? It's not really because more good things come their way, but rather because they find and enjoy the good in whatever does come their way.

Imagine how very much more effective your work would be if it was done with sincere joy in your heart. Consider how much more richly you could relate with others if you consistently did so from a perspective of joy.

Rather than looking for something to be joyful about, look for things, for people, for situations to be joyful upon. Let joy freely flow from you and you'll find that there's always plenty of joy around you.

-- Ralph Marston

JOY

Conquering any difficulty always gives one a secret joy, for itmeans pushing back a boundary-line and adding to one's liberty.
--Henri Frederic Amiel

The joy that comes past hope and beyond expectation is like no other pleasure in extent.
--Sophocles

Human beings who leave behind them no great achievements, but onlya sequence of small kindnesses, have not had wasted lives.--Charlotte Gray

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

-- Leo Buscaglia

Each human creature is alone-but acts of kindness take away our loneliness, for we discover that others are concerned for us.--Pam Brown

ACT BACKWARDS

The service we render for others is really the rent we pay for ou room on this earth.
---Wilfred Grenfell

The service that counts is the service that costs.
---Howard Hendricks

Dan, Leo is one of my favorite authors, thanks for sharing that!

Kath, Buscaglia had some wonderful thoughts about life. One of Marie's favorites also, we miss him.

Few things are more attractive than courage, cheerfulness and optimism. But they take on an extra dimension when you realise that they are not a lucky assembly of character traits, but the result of an act of will -- a deliberate attempt to tackle an unkind destiny with strength of purpose and good humour.

-- Jane Shilling

Every pulpit is a pillory, in which stands a hired culprit, defending the justice of his own imprisonment.

Robert Green Ingersoll (1833-1899)

American politician and lecturer known for his adamant support of scientific and humanistic rationalism

"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."
--Groucho Marx

Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.
--Albert Schweitzer

On the turning away
On the turning away
from the pale and downtrodden
and the words they say
which we won't understand
" don't accept that what's happening
is just a case of others' suffering
or you'll find that you're joining in
the turning away"

It's a sin that somehow
light is changing to shadow
and casting it's shroud
over all we have known
unaware how the ranks have grown
driven on by a heart of stone
we could find that we're all alone
in the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
as the daytime is stirring
where the speechless unite
in a silent accord
using words you will find are strange
and mesmerised as they light the flame
feel the new wind of change
on the wings of the night

No more turning away
from the weak and the weary
no more turning away
from the coldness inside
just a world that we all must share
it's not enough just to stand and stare
is it only a dream that there'll be
no more turning away?

Pink Floyd

Don't say all you'd like to say lest you hear something you wouldn't like to hear.
--Seamus MacManus

Looking back can be painful. Memories of poorly chosen paths bring with them jarringly potent echoes of the original accompanying ache. Reflecting on a history scattered with wounds, mistakes, and agonizing experiences can also stifle forward progress, but it doesn't have to. No one can fully escape the past, but a decision to follow God offers a new start, a prospect that promises to eclipse even the most unpleasant narrative.

The new start begins with forgiveness.
