A thought for the Day

:To preserve the silence within-amid all the noise. To remain open and quiet...no matter how many tramp across the parade-ground in whirling dust under an arid sky."
-----Dag Hammarskjold

AND a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children.

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's
longing for itself.

They come through you but not from
you,
And though they are with you yet they
belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not
your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not
their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of to-
morrow, which you cannot visit, not even
in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek
not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries
with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path
of the infinite, and He bends you with His
might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand
be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Thanks for those nice thoughts, Elaine, CBR, DD and Kath. They bring a smile to the day.

And sometimes when you turn, there is a shoulder to lean upon,
A smile to believe in, a hand to hold.
A tear to speak for, a hug to live for,
A twinkle to kiss and a wrinkle to touch.
Those are the times your faith in the world is restored,
The soul has a fresh lease on life.
Those are the times worth living for,
Those are the tiny moments of Glory in our everyday lives!

---Nirvikar Dahiya

Never forget the moment
When you reached out beyond your limits
Never forget the moment
When you first came face to face with love
Never forget the moment
When you realized your cries in the night were heard
Never forget the moment
When you came to understand the nature of sacrifice
Never forget the moment
When you first experienced God

It was the moment of revelation
It was the moment of peace
It was the moment of love
It was the moment that defined you and all that is
It was the moment you were truly born

Never forget the moment

"What a fine lesson is conveyed to the mind-to take no note of time but by its benefits, to watch only for the smiles and neglect the frowns of fate, to compose our lives of bright and gentle moments, turning always to the sunny side of things, and letting the rest slip from our imaginations, unheeded or forgotten."
--William Hazlitt (1778-1830)

A Penny for your Thoughts
==========================

I'll never again pick up a penny without thinking of this.

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited
to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home.
My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was
very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing
more than her house.

The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to
have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live.

The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took
them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never
have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance
again, so was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant
that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and
her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement
for a long, silent moment.

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was
nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that
someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts.

Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had
found a great treasure.

How absurd!

What need did this man have for a single penny?

Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her.
Finally, she could stand it no longer. She causally mentioned
that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the
penny he had found had been valuable.

A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his
pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had
seen many pennies before. What was the point of this?

"Look at it," he said. "Read what it says."

She read the words "United States of America."
"No, not that; read further."

"One cent?"
"No, keep reading."

"In God we Trust?"

"Yes!"

"And?"

"And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin.

Whenever I find a coin, I see that inscription.
It is written on every single United States coin,
but we never seem to notice it.

God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust
Him.

Who am I to pass it by?

When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God
at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I
do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if
it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a
conversation with me.

Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful."

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk.
I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been
worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change.
I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh.

Yes, God, I get the message. It seems that I have been finding
an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but
then, pennies are plentiful. And God is patient.

A single gentle rain makes the grass may shades greener. So our prospects brighten on the influx of better thoughts. We should be blessed if we lived in the present always, and took advantage of every accident that befell us, like the grass which confesses the influence of the slightest dew that falls on it;and did not spend our time in atoning for the neglect of past opportunities, which we call doing our duty. We loiter in winter while it is already spring.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

If we are not happy, if we are not peaceful,we cannot share peace and hapiness with others, even those we love, those who live under the same roof. If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, in our entire society, will benefit from our peace.
--Thich Nhat Hanh, from "Being Peace"

Elaine, Mother Teresa's thought is similar to Lady M's thought you have in your signature. Nice. :sunny: DD's, your thoughts have a nice calm about them.

Such a day

Imagine how it would be to spend just one day sincerely caring about everything and worrying about nothing. Just think of what you could accomplish in such a frame of mind.
You would look at every situation with a new and empowering perspective. You would see possibilities and opportunities instead of problems and limitations. There would be no hopeless situations, no cause for panic, no reason for any anxiety. You would simply have work to be done, and you would go about doing it cheerfully, enthusiastically, and with the highest of expectations.

Your mind would focus on the best way to move forward rather than on the biggest excuse for staying put. You would know with confidence that giving and creating produces infinitely more value than taking and hoarding.

Such a day would be filled with value, with joy, with accomplishment and fulfillment. And the best thing is that such a day is yours to live any time you choose, even this very moment.

DD & Dan, thank you both for your thoughts. DD, yours just always bring a smile to my face. Dan you always get me thinking :)

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of birds, the ebb and flow of the tides, the folded bud ready for spring. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature-the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after the winter.--Rachel Carson

The winning side

Even though life is filled with problems, it is still overwhelmingly positive. Though there's a downside to most things, it is limited, while the upside rarely has such limits.
There is only so far that you can fall, but there is no limit to how high you can soar. There is only so much that you can lose, but there is no limit to what you can achieve. Certainly there are obstacles to any achievement, but those obstacles are finite. And there are countless ways to get beyond them.

Even the discouragements can encourage you. With each setback you can develop more determination to move forward.

In order for something to be wrong, there must exist the very real possibility of it being right. Yet things can be good and right without the necessity of them ever being wrong.

Life is overwhelmingly positive. Though the bad news and the difficulties get our attention, it is precisely because of their rarity that we notice them. Many of the good things we're so accustomed to that we don't even notice them unless they're gone. Ally yourself with the positive things in life, and you'll always be on the winning side.

-- Ralph Marston
