This is both a personal one and from many of my DVC colleagues.

As many of you will know I recently started work for DVC as an ASA ( the people who are usually the first contact with potential members, we are the ones who staff the info centres at the resorts and parks).

I had a day last week where the weather was not playing nice (bucketing down with rain all day) and I was outside at AK near camp minnie mickey. It was a pretty unpleasant time and it was getting me down a bit, park was virtually empty so no one to talk to, soaking wet and prety cold. During the course of the afternoon I had at least 3 DVC members come up to me and say how much they appreciated their DVC membership and wanted to say how much they appreciated the people who had been their first contact with DVC. They went on to let me know some of the wonderful things they had done with their memberships and how much it had enabled them to do with their families. It gave me a real lift to hear the stories from these families and helped me to get back up to where I needed to be when I had a few guests come up and ask me about DVC later that afternoon.

I talked to many of my colleagues over the next couple of days and everyone said how much they appreciate members coming up, saying hi and letting us know the fun they have had with their membership. It makes a big difference for us to know what we are doing can make a huge difference to families from all over the world. It keeps us motivated to help potential members to take those first steps to becoming members, and it gives a great lift at the times when things aren't perfect and reminds us of what DVC is all about.

Thanks guys, we know we can make a difference to your lives, but ( while it certainly isn't about the money) it's what we're paid to do , you can definately make a difference to our day and we very much appreciate when you take the time to do so.

Thanks for thinking of us, Vernon! Your reminder is also appreciated - it's always nice to hear positive things and DVC is certainly no different.

I hope the weather is better too! :)

As long as we don't get in the way of new customers, right? :teeth:

Seriously, thanks for taking the time to post. I find myself instantly drawn to the DVC kiosks and always want to go up to people looking at the brochures and ask if they have any questions...maybe I need to be an ASA!!!

Thanks so much for the nice comments, Vernon. Anyone who has worked in sales knows how much it helps morale when a past client or customer gives you a nice comment about your service or product. I operated a direct sales business for about 11 years out of my home when my children were small
(this was over 10 years ago). I still occasionally run into people I did business with at that time and it's always so nice to hear them ask when I'm going to reopen my business since they just can't seem to get the kind of service I provided to them, so I do know personally how good it makes you feel to be a part of something that makes people happy. Have a great day and keep up the good work!!!

Thanks for everything. I am glad to see that you enjoy DVC as much as we do. Now what about an upcoming DVC at ..................... Just kidding.

Gee, I feel sorry for ya with the rain and all but I am sitting here looking at the new, fresh fallen snow so....you know....I'm not feelin THAT sorry for ya! :sunny: I always felt I shouldn't bother the people at those kiosks because I am not a buying guest, I already bought and I don't want to waste their time. It's nice to know otherwise.

Hi I always felt the same way, I'm already a member and I shouldn't pest the sales people in the kiosk. But we did stop once in DTD when they were building SSR to ask some question about the building and the person was so nice and pleasant to talk with and low and behold we added on. But I did feel a little like I was using up his time so glad to hear that it is ok to stop by and let you know how happy we are with DVC. Thanks for your positive outlook. I'll look for you in March!!!!! Carol :goodvibes

On our last trip, walking out of Epcot after illuminations, DH suddenly grabbed me & gave me a big kiss...I was surprised, since he's a pretty anti-pda kind of guy. DS(12), stunned, asked, "Dad, what was that for?" He said, "Well, this kiosk is the second-best place in the world...the place where we first heard about DVC. First best is where I met your mother." I was a little bit sorry the CM's had already gone home for the night, since you deserve to know that someone is really grateful that you do your jobs.

Thanks for not minding if members talk to you. DH and I always seem to do this. The DVC cast members are always so nice and we really enjoy talking to you guys (and girls)!

I also never want to bother the people at the DVC kiosks just in case a perspective member might walk up.

The other thing I always have to hold myself back from doing is running over to someone that I see stopped in a booth and telling them how wonderful DVC is.

And thank YOU! We like to go up and talk to the kiosk folks too. I usually carry around our DVC canvas bag, and often the kiosk folks will notice it and say "Welcome Home"! I really like that touch too. Glad your folks are there!

To all of you that feel you're bothering us because you're not a buying "customer" please don't feel that way, every ASA I've spoken to always says how much they appreciate the conversation. It gives a nice break from feeling everytime you talk to someone it's just about work. I love talking about DVC, but talking to an existing owner gives it a different slant and helps you to stay fresh.

I used to be "guilty" of this LOL  , but it's very much appreciated by the ASAs and IMHO it's a great help to someone that's thinking about DVC to get an owners view on the process, the majority of the time the main worry is that the tour is going to be a high pressure and unpleasant event. We all know that isn't the case, but to someone who hasn't been through the DVC process it's a big fear.

Similar in many ways to how valuable these boards are, getting the opinion of someone who obviously has nothing to gain from giving a recommendation for a particular park, resort or attraction, it's a huge help to get feedback from an owner. I always felt, before I was an ASA, I was doing the potential DVC owner a big favour by getting them to go take a look at the information and to see what was available to them. If they decide it's not for them, that's fine but we all know how many owners say " I wish we'd bought/toured earlier". From any business point of view there is nothing that is as welcome as positive feedback from happy customers. We all feel our biggest asset is the almost 100,000 members ( the vast majority of whom are happy with their DVC) that we have.

Thanks again to everyone and I look forward to seeing you around WDW soon, as a P.S. anyone talking to me, please let me know you're a DIS member, I don't get to participate as much as I'd like to and the DIS has been such a huge part of my life over the last 6-7 years that I miss the interactions with my DIS buddies. I'm the only British guy working as an ASA at the moment so if you hear a funny accent :D you'll know there's a good chance it's me LOL

That's what's so magical ... that you and other DVC ASA's don't mind having owners "interrupt". It's not just about a sales pitch. It's a shame that other timeshare pressure experiences make people fearful of DVC, because it is SO not that way.

Thanks for all you do, Vernon! We'll look for you next time we're there! (and if you're wearing pins prepare to be "interrupted" for about 1/2 hour as my kids agonize over their trade! :rotfl2: )

Okay, I have to ask. What does ASA stand for?

Also just curious do you have to have a real estate license to be an ASA?

Vernon, if a guest is ever walking by and they shout out, "Stop giving away the secret!" it's probably me.

But I've had many pleasant chats with the CMs who man the DVC kiosks. Thanks for being there, even when it's raining buckets.

I can honestly say, Vernon, that it was an ASA (I, too, am curious what it stands for: asst. sales assoc.?) who made all the difference in our DVC purchase. We were staying at VWL as cash-paying visitors three years ago, and it was my family's first trip together to WDW. We were constantly walking by the kiosk in the Villas' lobby and were intrigued. Further, we had run across the DVC concept in making our original vacation plans.

One evening, my wife and I were discussing how nice our 1BR suite was, and we wondered what the DVC program truly was all about. I went downstairs, found the ASA at her post, and peppered her with questions. She was friendly, forthright, and extremely helpful. Due to her response and helpfulness, wifey and I decided to take the tour the next day. And the rest, as they say, is history. So, warm-hearted greetings and thanks go out to you and the rest of your peers. You do make a difference. paw:

Hey Vernon, are you always stationed at AK? We arrive at SSR in two weeks! Woo hoo!
DH and I are English DVC enthusiasts (I remember you from the UK boards) I would love to come and say hi!

Mandy :sunny:

Hey Vernon

We dont make a habit of it, but stop by these booths every so often. Last time we did, we were in Epcot near Universe of Energy. We were looking at things and got in a conversation with the ASA. They seemed really glad that we stopped by and like many here, we seemed to just open up to others about our own experience as owners. Glad to hear that yall dont mind us already owners checking in every so often. And we will be there in March so we will stop by to see you.

Okay, I have to ask. What does ASA stand for?

Advanced Sales Associate , although we don't sell anything :confused3 but I guess when they were working on the titles for the position it was kinda hard to come up with an accurate discription.

No we don't need a real estate licence at the moment, although I have a feeling that may change in the future.
Hey Vernon, are you always stationed at AK?
No Mandy, they switch us about (which I like) generally each week we have 3 different resort locations and 2 different themeparks, my team has a 5 week rotation so our schedule only repeats every 5th week. There are a few ASAs who have a home resort and they work their 5 days all at the same resort and on the same shift. I prefer the rotation idea as you get to see all the different hotels and parks. IMHO it's easier to get "stale" if you're in the same location every day, but others like the continuity of the same location and feel it gives them a better chance to build a relationship with a guest that is nervous about approaching one of the CMs.

Mandy drop me an email or IM with your dates of travel and I'll let you know where I'll be on which dates, love to meet you and DH.

I wish I had seen this post before we left! There were kiosks everywere on our trip last week, and I kept wanting to go up and say "Hi, We LOVE DVC", but thought that you would think "sheesh, we don't care about you...we already have your money" so I never bothered

Next time I'll be bugging every ASA at the kiosks :thumbsup2
