I just wanted to send a thank you out to everyone who helped me get information about renting scooters and other information for my friend's trip to WDW.
She finally went on her trip the week of Sept 10-16th. She was able to take advantage of the free dining and that really helped her out. DH & I booked her stay and made sure that she had a handicapped room. I also looked on the "Dis"abilities board and got information about scooters for her.
She and her daughter had a great trip. They had not been for 27 years.
She was worried that she would have a very difficult time because she is over 400lbs and a severe asthmatic. On top of that her knees won't let her step up onto or down into areas. She knew if she couldn't get a scooter then she would not be able to go.
I found a site on the "Dis"abilities board that rents scooters for people of her size. They would deliver to and pick up from the resort. So she was able to rent a scooter.
They both had a great time. She said there were times that once she got back to the room for a rest that she didn't go back out, but told her daughter to go for it. They got tickets to Cirque and loved it. They loved their room, they were in the 50's Tramp building at Pop and had a view of the lake. She said every morning when they came out there were two bunnies sitting there as it to say "Good Morning".
She said everyone there was extremely helpful and pleasant. Her first day out on the scooter, she almost had a mishap, but had her daughter on the floor laughing at her trying to get off the bus. She said the bus driver said jokingly "You are going to learn to drive that before you come to get back on the bus?" She knew he was joking and had a laugh. But she said if it hadn't been for having the scooter she could not have done it and was so glad she did go.
