A Tale of [family madness in] Two Cities - Final Thoughts & PTR Link!

I hope Henry is feeling better!

I know what you mean about Cali being noisy! When Jason and I ate there (3 years ago!!!), we were lucky enough to sit in a quiet small room towards the back of the restaurant which overlooks Bay Lake. Unfortunately, you don't get to overlook MK but we went on the deck after dinner and admired the view.

When we went to Narcoosee's this last trip we really enjoyed the food there and we watched Wishes while we ate! This restaurant dims the lights completely and is quieter than California Grill. If you ever have another date night I highly suggest Narcoosee's if you haven't been yet ;).

Henry update: He went down for his nap around 1:00 pm. At 6:30 he was STILL sleeping. He was coughing a bit so I went in to check on him and he wanted to get out of bed, so we came out to the living room and I noticed how hot he was. A little firecracker! I took his temp....104! I called my Mom, who has been a nurse for 35+ years and asked if we should do the E.R. or wait until tomorrow for the clinic. After hearing him cough, and asking a few other questions, she suggested we go to the E.R.

2.5 hours later, Henry is diagnosed with RSV. They took his blood, gave him an IV of fluids and took a couple x-rays to make sure it was JUST RSV, and thankfully it's not paired with anything like pneumonia. Since he is 2, the risk factors with RSV are greatly decreased, it's basically like a really, really bad cold. The doctor and nurses were very glad we brought him in though. They expect he'll have another rough day or two, then we'll see improvement. We just have to monitor and control his fever and keep up his fluids.

Thank you everyone for your concerns, words and prayers! :goodvibes I'm certain we'll have our normal little boy back in just a few days!!

OH my! I didnt even realize you had done an update. Poor henry, I hope he is feeling better. My DS used to burn high fevers every time he got sick. I remember one incident when he was about 2, he was running a fever in the middle of the night so I put him in the bath. The poor thing was miserable, I took his temp and when I saw it at 104.3 I pulled out the thermometer in panic. The problem was there was a blizzard outside ( we were living in NY at that time) and it was like 4:00am. I thought taking him out in that would be worse for him. I called my pediatrician and he suggested alternating between tylenol and motrin. I am not a big fan of medications but this was one of those times that it was absolutely necessary. His fever ended up breaking and he was shortly on the mend. But that was one of the MOST SCARY :scared1: mom moments I ever had. We had his tonsils removed when he was 4 yrs old and he has never had a fever over 101-ish after that. I am sure that you are really happy that you are able to be home with him, there's nothing better than having mommy to make things better!

Ok on to the CG update! I am sooooo excited now after reading your review! We have this booked for one of our nights- and I timed it so that we too will be able to watch wishes. One question, I know you said it was loud, but do they pipe the music into the restaurant so that you can hear it as well?
The food looked scrummy. I am definitely going to try that Spicy Kazan roll- that looks right up my alley. I will skip the flat bread as I am soooo not a fan of Goat cheese- but it looked pretty! Oh and I know DH will order what Joe did- that is his type of meal. Thanks for sharing!

What a lovely dinner you and Joe had at CG. How fitting that someone from WI makes a football joke to a couple from MN. So not surprising. ;) Was it a Vikings/Packers joke? Ha! Great update Brook!! The photos are beautiful. I too saw that large wreath and loved it!

I hope Henry feels better. RSV is rough! There is a lot going around in our area lately too. Yuck!

LOL! Um yeah, Iliked ot be in Australia too and I think I would know if I was there.

I wish they had a video phone so they could have seen the look the got when they asked if i was sure I hadn't been! :rotfl:

And now going to catch up on the rest of the TR!

Hope Henry is doing better! I loved him and "Dut Dut" in your last trip report! ! :)

Wonderful update!! At least the text... Can't see the pics for some reason. :headache:

I am impressed that my dining review is quoted. :goodvibes We will have a new CG review coming soon - it will include the same server you had! :lmao: I think we very much agree on the Wishes experience at CG: Wishes was designed to be seen from Main Street or the Hub, not being there takes away from the show.

I am so glad that you enjoyed your meal, even when you ordered something not usual for you. I tried something very new this time as well and loved it a lot. :thumbsup2

I can still remember the pictures you posted in your TR of the sunset...and just the way you described it sounded so wonderful! I gotta try it sometime. I look forward to your review with Topher! We thought he was great.

And yep, that's how I feel about Wishes. It wasn't bad, but nothing like Main Street.

I was pretty surprised I enjoyed the tuna as much as I did! I'm glad I chose to be adventurous!

Dinner at CG looks just phenomenally delicious, but the part that made me drool the most was the special coffee and housemade peppermint ice cream!!! Yum, yum, yum!

Do they pipe in the music for Wishes?

Cool pictures from BLT! :thumbsup2 Hope you get your ride in on Space Mountain!

Thank goodness you took Henry to the ER and found out what was wrong. It is always so scary when you don't know what is wrong. Lots of prayers that he starts feeling better soon!

I LOVE a sweet with a cup of coffee...and peppermint ice cream has to be my favorite! Peppermint anything actually! It was the perfect way to end the meal.

Yep, they do pipe in the music for Wishes, it's not very loud-so the music doesn't surround you like it does on Main Street though. Which, is to be expected considering you are in a restaurant...but, the music enveloping you on Main Street certainly has a distinct feeling, which was lacking here.

Thank you for the prayers for Henry!

Just got finished writing about Henry on our TR after having seen your FB post. Hope he is running around the house 'vrooming' his cars again very soon!

That's a cool picture!
I think you guys were here the night we were meeting Wigd and Shocker in DTD.

I saw your post on your TR too...thank you so much for putting that out there! The more people praying for him, the better! :thumbsup2 He is back to "vrooming" now, just left with a nagging cough.

Yep, that is where you guys were. We were going to meet up with Wigd and Shocker later that night at MK...but as you'll find out....it didn't happen. I remembered around 12:30 am! :headache:

What an amazing evening you and Joe are having! What a beeeeeeautiful plate of sushi that is! I simply can.not.wait for our Sept/Oct (?) Ladies meal there. I think I'm going to get both a sushi platter AND a cheese board. I know, funky combo, but both sound so yummy!!

I always imagined the atmosphere/ambiance to be more subdued too, but now I'm adjusting my expectations somewhat. Yours is not the first review where the busy-ness has been commented on. Tis OK. Just the view sounds so lovely and unique!:thumbsup2

It was a great evening! And it gets better. :goodvibes

The sushi was a;lskdjf;laksjdflkasdf good. Drool. So, so good! I am not a cheese fan, so the cheese board wasn't my thing, but I've read great reviews about it. I think it'll be just fine together!

It sorta surprised me about how busy and noisy it was. I expected big warm booths, but it was just the opposite. Simple tables, light colored wood, open kitchen. I prefer cozy and intimate, but this wasn't bad at all. The food, service and the view are wonderful!

now I can see the pictures!! makes the post even better!! :cloud9:

Good! Something must have been going on with my account or something....can't miss the food pics. :goodvibes

Great update! The view at California Grill looks amazing. How cool you got to stay to see Wishes too.

That's funny about how you just followed some other guy into BLT because that's exactly what we did in August. Hey, we wanted to see the lobby too!

It was a GREAT view. It was fun to watch the boats on the lake, and the buses going around under us. Then later in the week to see the restaurant from the point of view on the ground...it was neat!

I remember reading it on a TR (maybe it was yours?) where people went in to explore and I thought, "if they can do it, so can we!" :rotfl:

Great update Brooke. You must be uploading to Flickr cause I can see all your pics. We sat in almost the exact same table as you. I think Denny sat in the chair behind yours.

Your meal looks delicious. That flat bread looked amazing and so did your appe. So glad you got to stay right in your seats for wishes. What a great way to end the night. But....oh wait....you did not end the night. You are going for space mtn or bust!

I use SmugMug and LOVE it. It has a price tag, but it's worth it to me! Joe and I plan to upload all our full size pictures to it as well because it's allowed with a basic membership - then we have everything backed up again. Photobucket and I did NOT get along. :rolleyes1

Wasn't that view incredible?! It was PERFECT! So, so lovely.

That is RIGHT! Space Mountain or BUST will be our next update! Will we get there...or will we bust? Or perhaps both???? ;)

Fabulous update! CG looks amazing, the view alone would be worth going IMO. SO glad you and your DH had a relaxing time. Although I'm a little disappointed you didn't get that chocolate cake, it sounded heavenly!

I'm so glad you went with your mommy instincts and took Henry to the ER.:thumbsup2 He must have been feeling miserable. Poor baby! I'll be praying for his speedy recovery! Sounds like you might be watching some more Mickey House Clubhouse for the next few days too. One year, we all had what I call the 'great flu of 2003'. It was baaaaad and my middle daughter and I spiked 105 fevers! My DH was the only one who didn't get it so he took care of us all. We still talk about it like we survived the bubonic plague or something! Get better soon Henry!!:goodvibes

ETA: Dear Henry, my 3 little girls are sad to hear you're not feeling well. Here's some balloons from them to cheer you up!

balloons-big.jpg

Trust me, it nearly killed me to not order that chocolate cake. It has GREAT reviews and while I'm not normally a big chocolate person, I love a molten type chocolate cake...and with the peppermint ice cream, I would have been in heaven! :cloud9: But, I was soooooooo full. Next time I'd do 2 appes and that cake I think!

Thank you so much for your prayers! I am very glad we went to the ER too, who knows what his temp could have raised to. 105, that is SCARY! So far neither Joe or I have gotten sick, but, I have been coughing the past 2 days... Henry is feeling better, still has a nasty cough - but is eating again and active!

Those balloons are great! I will show them to Henry when he wakes up. Cars + balloons...two of his favorite things! :goodvibes

Hugs to Henry... i hope he is feeling back to normal soon.

Cali Grille... love love the food pics, yummy. What a special night.

Thank you! He is almost back to his normal self now. Tomorrow we have a dr. appointment to get an "all clear" from her.

It was a great night! The food, the view, the service - it was all wonderful!

I cannot wait for our CG dinner in May! I don't know how I will ever narrow down the menu though! I have heard great things about the BLT flatbread, I really want to try that sushi roll you got, there is a lobster risotto that is supposed to be awesome...and that is all before the main course!

Hope Henry gets feeling better soon  RSV can be nasty but at 2, he should bounce back OK. I think Patrick was about that age when he got it and thankfully, he came through it just fine

:rotfl: decisions, decisions! You are on the Deluxe plan, right? I cannot recall for sure... Otherwise, I was just going to say, get your appes and skip the main course! :goodvibes I think Joe had planned on the BLT flat bread, but it wasn't on the menu! I think it's because it was a holiday menu though. Higher prices, some different choices.

I read a lot about RSV when Henry was little and it was always on my mind - I completely forgot about it as he got older and out of the "danger zone" with it. So when the doc came back with that diagnosis, I was relieved! He is bouncing back already too. :thumbsup2

Amazing view! Amazing meal! That is so great that you and Joe were able to enjoy a date night. Can't wait to see if you were able to get on Space Mtn!

As for Henry, poor little guy! I hope he feels better soon. Jared had RSV when he was an infant - that was scary. We basically had to take turns sleeping in the chair with him on our chest so that we could monitor his breathing. Thankfully for you, it's not nearly as bad for toddlers. Prayers for a speedy recovery!

It was very nice to enjoy a night out! It doesn't happen too often, so it's a treat - and we've never done it since Henry has been born at WDW! That was a HUGE benefit of taking Grammy and Poppa!

Oh my....I cannot imagine with an infant!!!!!! That is VERY scary! :guilty: I was thankful Henry made it through almost 2.5 years of nothing more than a bad cold! It nearly killed me to see an IV in his arm though. Ugh.

He is recovering really well - almost back to normal already!

Aww, I'm just reading now about Henry's trip to the ER... hope your little sweetie is feeling better soon. It's good you took him right away for an evaluation... always listen to your gut!

...and your mother!!

;)

Glad your bump on the noggin wasn't serious! It was wonderful to get such a detailed review of Cali Grill... the food looked and sounded amazing and you're right! You couldn't have asked for a better table for Wishes! :cloud9:

Love how you "snuck in" to see the BLT Lobby!! (Well, you are DVC members, so I don't see why you couldn't.)

MK open until 3am?! Wow!

Kathy

:rotfl: As soon as I saw that temp I grabbed the phone. Mom DOES know best. She's been there, done that (times three kids) PLUS the education. She's a smart lady! I called her about 4 more times that night with updates and bubbling with thankfulness for her!

The bump only had a bit of shame. The shame hurt more than the bump!

It's strange that BLT is locked down, but none of the other DVC resorts are....what is the deal? Because it's so close to MK? :confused3

Yep, 3 AM. It was only close for 4 hours TOTAL each night. Open at 7 am, closes at 3 am. That week is unique to say the least! ;)

First off, so glad to hear Henry is doing better... just saw on FB that he wasn't doing too good... not fun stuff when your baby isn't feeling well.... lots of hugs and prayers to him (and you guys too!)

So sad to admit I just found your TR today - a combo of not being on the boards much in general lately paired with a trip for work left me seriously lacking in the DIS lately! So much fun to read all about your trip today, and dreaming about our family trip this next December! Your pictures capture some magical moments - so fun to see!!

Looking forward to the rest! (And just let me know about the sweatshirt! Still willing to make one for you!)

Just caught up. LOVED the OFL photos from DHS. I SO want to go during Christmas and see those. The meal at Cali Grill looked and sounded awesome. And that it was free? Well you just can't be that my friend. I was cracking up at your BLT security breach. Looking forward to more!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear your little guy is on the mend! Isn't it so sad to see your normally active child laying low with sickness?? My DD6 is like the energizer bunny, constantly on the go and when she's sick it's so sad to see!

I hardly EVER pass up a dessert that includes the words molten chocolate! But to have paired that with peppermint ice cream!:worship: That's a serious taste bud party right there sister. Like a giant gourmet peppermint patty! After seeing your CG review, I'm really wanting to give it a try. Are there a lot of kids there too or is it strictly a couples only restaurant? It looks fabulous and the view is amazing!:thumbsup2

Henry update: I apologize for leaving mid-replies the other day, Henry has taken a turn for the worse. He was up for 2 days, and then yesterday went straight downhill. :sad1: We were back the doctor yesterday, the RSV and pneumonia are still hanging on AND he has an ear infection. More meds (which he DOES NOT like!), and a very sad little boy. He woke up today around 7:45 and then fell back asleep around 9:00 am, and has been napping since. It's almost noon here. He's just crashed out on the couch. So, please continue to pray for him! It stinks seeing my little guy feeling so yucky. :sad2:

Great update Brook! Just what I needed today- some feelgood Disney news Just sitting here looking at snow outside that just wont seem to go away, and we are expecting more tonight!!!:scared1: We just dont get this much snow in SW Virginia!
Anyway, sorry to hear about Henry, and I hope he is on his way to a quick recovery. I hate it when my kiddos are sick:sad2:
I loved your picture of you in the Mickey ear at the CR. We have a picture of our kids (minus Alexa since she wasnt born then) from when we stayed at the CR. I had one kid in each ear and one on Mickey's lap. Love it:thumbsup2
I will have to get another one in May with all 4 of them since w will be at BLT:banana::banana:
Thanks for the pictures of the lobby there. Cant wait to be sitting in one of those funky chairs myself:thumbsup2

Cant wait to hear about Space Mtn. Hope you got on and were able to stay up till 3am! I feel like I am getting way too old to make it till 3am:rotfl2:

I so HEAR ya! We have so much snow, and are predicted to get more. Looking at the pictures of lovely sunny Florida makes me weep a bit!

BLT looks amazing! I cannot recall if I mentioned this before, but later in the week we met another DVC family on the bus who was staying there and they said it was wonderful. They had ZERO complaints about it! :thumbsup2

I love that Mickey statue! I have seen him appear on many TRs, and I just had to get a pic. That is a great idea about having the kids in it too! I will have to do that next time with Henry - he'll get a kick out of it I'm sure.

Yep, Erin had a stomach bug about three weeks ago and I got a lot of "Momma. Come sit wiss me." :goodvibes Seriously, who could resist that!? We visit Mickey Mouse Clubhouse REGULARLY, too. :flower3:

I must have really been jonesing for this update, because it DID seem like a zillion years since the last one! ;)

The food at Cali Grill all looked so wonderful! I would have expected things to quiet down for Wishes too. On the other hand, we once grabbed us some ice cream and watched Wishes from the Tomorrowland Terrace place. We were right next to the rail, so it was fine, but I was a little surprised that they didn't dim the lights on the Terrace area. I mean, I guess they want to continue doing business and they probably don't want people falling over tables and stuff in the dark, but it would have been nice if they could have just dimmed the lights right around the edge where no one would have been walking anyway. That was actually our first time to see Wishes, I think, and it was wonderful regardless of the light condition. :goodvibes

I hope Henry feels better soon. Tell Mickey and the gang at the clubhouse that Erin and I said "Hi". Y'all take care!

Our Ped. said that the stomach flu has been going around STRONG. Henry threw up 3 times the other day, but it was more from his ear infection and the mucus (sorry, TMI...but you are a Mom, you know how it is!). Thankfully the stomach flu hasn't hit.

I agree about the lights! It's just for a short show, everyone could just stop. I know I would! :goodvibes

Yum!!! What a wonderful looking dinner and a wonderful view!! :thumbsup2 I was laughing when you had ordered the tuna and said you don't know what came over you.....I did the same thing at the Wave....I ordered a tuna appetizer----I had never eaten it in my life :rotfl2: but I figured if I am going to try it..it should be there and it was delicious!! :cool1:
3am :faint: hope you made it to SM!!
So happy that little Henry is feeling better!

Tracy

Exactly! I figured if I was going to like tuna anywhere it would be in a restaurant with such great reviews! I'm really glad I branched out a bit instead of going to my staple of chicken or red meat. I might have to do that more often!

I guess with that said, I do like the tuna sandwich at CHH too.

So....maybe I DO like tuna.:rotfl: I haven't had it at home in soooooo long, I only eat it at Disney! I just might have to try some.

3 am is crazy, isn't it?!?!

Nice update. What other food does the Cali have? I honestly don't like any of the choices you made for the most part. Well I like steak, but that picture made it look saucey or something. LOL! The icecream did look good though! LOL!

The steak did have a teriakyi (however you spell that!) sauce on it. A neighboring table asked for steak sauce, like some A1, but they do not carry it. I believe the pork tenderloin is one of the more "famous" dishes there, they also have a crispy chicken dish and some other fish choices. HERE is the full menu.

The flatbreads are also well known there, I would go back and order a couple appes and dessert! Yum!

So sorry little Henry has been sick. Hope he's feeling better every day! :)

Love your update of your date night at Cali Grill. DH and I ate here once for an anniversary dinner and we loved it. You should have gotten the choc cake.........:woohoo: It's delish
!

I have read so many reviews of that cake! And EVERYONE says its good. In a way I kick myself for not stuffing it in, but every time I am tempted to stuff in more Disney food I think back to my Great Ohana Debacle of 2008. And I am NOT willing to repeat that. I don't believe you read that TR, so I'll just say it wasn't pretty. :scared: So, I'm glad I didn't! At the moment I just couldn't handle anything more!

Great update:thumbsup2 You were lucky with a great table near the windows!! The view looks amazing. Glad you enjoyed your meal.

Poor Henry!! Hopefully he is feeling better soon. Good thing you took him & they got to hydrate him so he can be on the mend that much quicker.

So how did the plan with Space Mtn. go????

I was very surprised at our pixie dust of such an excellent seat! When they got us they mentioned about it being a "great location", but I kinda figured they said that to most people...but, they were right!

Space Mountain (or not??? :scratchin) update coming hopefully soon....I want to get it up, but with a sick boy, things are hit and miss on the computer time! :goodvibes

 Connie! I'm in Central Texas too!! Was raised in the Hill Country and am now in the Austin area!

Brook- Great update! We so have to eat at CG next trip. BUT now thanks to you, I won't stress over getting a fireworks time. They didn't even pipe the music in?? :sad2:

 for you and for Henry. So sorry your little guy is sick. I know it's hard on you too, as the mommie. Wanting to make it all better and ya can't. I get it. Here's praying for a quick recovery for Henry!

I just love your Flufferville story. Every time I see your profile details I giggle!

They DID pipe the music in, it just wasn't very loud - so it didn't really envelope you in the moment. I'm glad we tried it, but I wouldn't rush there to see it again like that. (preview on the TR: later I watched it from the Poly beach and it was much better IMO!)

It's very hard just wanting to snap my fingers and have a happy little boy back...! :sad2:

Your meal looks excellent.

I miss the Contemporary *sigh*

Isn't the Contemporary so beautiful?! I love that resort!! I'm not a huge fan of the BLT style, I much prefer the style of the regular hotel, BUT, we will stay there someday and I'll probably change my mind after that stay!

What a yummy update! I love all those adventurous choices! Did you order your tuna rare? And how cool that Topher made sure that you stayed for Wishes. Can't wait to hear about your late night MK adventures!

Yep! Topher asked how I would like it done and I just stared at him. I told him I normally don't order tuna, I have NO idea. He kinda laughed and said something about it normally being served rare. So I rolled with it! I like tuna in my sushi, so I figured this would be good.

We were very pleased when he came over and suggested we just stay put!!

I miss when I could snuggle with my little boy on the couch! Hope he's feeling better soon!

Gorgeous view!

Mmmm...looks so good! The whole meal sounded good, and you had an excellent view!

Denise

Yesterday when we were at the doctor's office he fell asleep on me. He RARELY does that on me, but usually on Joe if he's gonna. Joe must be more comfy. ;) But, I was soaking it in....I hated the fact that I knew he was only doing that because we was feeling so icky, but I loved him all curled on me! :lovestruc

Joe's steak was very good! I had to have a bite!

Thoughts and prayers with Henry.

The CG pictures were great.

Thank you!! He really needs those prayers!

Glad you enjoyed the update. It's making me hungry for lunch right now!

Praying for Henry to feel better fast! Poor guy!

Cali Grill looks and sounds AMAZING!! The food looks delicious! And your view was incredible! Were you able to hear the Wishes music? Can't wait to hear about EMH at MK!! :goodvibes

Yep! They do pipe the music into the restaurant. It's just not very loud so it doesn't quite create the same feeling as Main Street...which is to be expected I suppose! But, I was just hoping for a bit more.

I hope Henry is better very soon!
Dinner sounds great - and then off to MK - it's a perfect evening IMO! :thumbsup2

I agree! Yummy food, and a fantastic park!

Great update. Hope Henry feels better very soon.

Thank you!!

Oooh, that back room sounds wonderful! If/when we go back for an earlier ressie for the sunset, I'm going to request that I think!

I will keep that in mind about Narcoosee's. I have read a ton of great reviews of it! Hopefully another Disney date night will transpire in a year or two when we bring friends/family again!

Oh man! That is very scary about your DS! When I saw the 104 number too I ran for the Motrin. I try not to give it because usually a fever can be good, but this was just way too high. By the time we were in the ER it was down to 101.

You will love your night at CG!!! It really is a magical place. While it is noisy, they DO pipe in the music. The music isn't very loud, so it doesn't quite create the moment that I like where you are enveloped in it all, but certainly loud enough for you to hear it. :thumbsup2 It could have been nosier than normal for our time due to the week we were there too.

The food was awesome. That Spicy Kazan roll was PERFECT. I had goosebumps eating it! :rotfl:

Thinking of you and Henry today. I hope he is better.

Thank you!!! I posted an update a few posts above...:sad2:

Poor Henry! I was reading the updates thinking that he was really on the mend. Having a setback makes it even worse to have a sick kid in my mind. I bet a shamrock shake would help him feel better! ;)

I'll keep praying that he improves quickly!
