A surprise cruise VR?

Recently my brother was married aboard a cruise ship (not Disney, though for the life of me I can't figure out why since he always says his greatest regret was when he quit his Disney job, it was probably his horrible new wife... but I digress  ) and my parents went along and fell in love  with the cruising life. Now, they've been together nearly forty years through thick and thin (a lot of thin actually) and I'd really like to see them have a vow renewal because their original wedding wasn't exactly spectacular. (My grandparents, mom's parents, even refused to go until the day of the wedding because they didn't approve of my father. )

Selfishly, I wish they would have an Intimate VR at Disney proper because I would love to plan it. :lmao: But I figure this ties things together nicely; I want to plan a Disney wedding, they would like to go on another cruise. And I'd really like to surprise them with it. The question is... is that even possible? :confused3 Can you keep the bride and groom out of the planning and just have them show up in their fancy duds (that they'd need anyway for Palo and such)? I'd be footing the bill, so they wouldn't need to be involved in that bit either. (I feel like $3,000ish is worth letting them know how much they mean to me and each other.) What do ya'll think?

Awwww!!!

Okay, here's what I think: It's a wonderful idea!! I've never been on board with surprise weddings, because I can't help but think the people involved might like to plan their own, you know? But a surprise vow renewal is a whole other kettle of fish!

The day before or the day of you could give them invitations to their own event!! And make sure to take mum shopping so she gets an outfit that makes her feel beautiful! You'll have to schedule hair appointments and could even have morning at the spa so she feels relaxed and pampered. Ooo, can I help plan?? It sounds like so much fun! :thumbsup2

It is fun! I can't stop thinking about it now, it just seems really perfect. I had already talked to my father about them renewing their vows before and so he'd be my 'inside man' on the project. (His memory isn't what it used to be so he was joking that he'll probably still be surprised on the day. :lmao: )

My head is absolutely chock full of little ideas; my mom's original bridal bouquet was daisies (because they were cheap) so I want to add those into one of the really lush rose ones offered by Disney and I'm going to invite her best friend from high school (and my fake auntie since before I can remember) so that my parents can share the day with both family and friends. And I've been looking over all the DCL VR reports I can find, they'd been really helpful too. Squee!

ask away..i just got off a Disney VR..

I wonder if you can add the VR to YOUR reservation as it is a pacakge add on..you could call DFTW and ask for Cathy. She handles all the DCL weddings

What a great Idea. Since they wouldn't need a marriage license or anything I can't imagine why you couldn't surprise them!

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were on a 7 day on the Magic and it was fantastic, and it would be cute to hear about a surprise one....on the cruise thread, a man named Joel had a "surprise wedding" for all his guests....he and his wife were already married....really long read, but funny as all get-out....it is SSHHH it's a surprise (or something like that)

Have a great time planning it.

Cheryl
