Okay, here's the situation (go ahead, laugh at me now! :) ): I completed a trade on PinPics, and now can't figure how to get that person's address to send his/her pin? How do I get that info?

when I actually get someone to agree to a pinpics trade (this doesn't happen very often), we are emailing each other. I just ask the person to email me their address. Then I email my address or vice versa.

Thanks, Duckfan! So now comes the hard part - waiting to hear back from the other person! :)

Debi,
I just replied to your PM.

Just to add to what Duckfan wrote, I have a bad average on the trades as well, so don't get discouraged if they don't accept right away.

And most of all, don't forget to check references!

If you have any questions about trades you offer or trade offers you receive, or possibly some reservations about the trader, you can PM a veteran on this board for advice or post your question and ask for advice. Everyone here is great and will offer some great tips.

Debi,

As a newbie to PinPics I just want to fill you in on a few facts so you don't get discouraged.

When you submit a trade request you are proposing a possible trade to an unknown person. You can verify the PinPics ids of the people you are sending offers to, but until you've been trading for awhile, those names won't mean much to you.

After you submit a trade request the chances are very good that you will not get a response at all. I find that if I've sent out 30 to 40 offers, I may get 3 or 4 responses. I do not interpret this as rudeness, although some do. Since I am also the recipient of a large number of offers each day I find I do not have the time to reply to everyone.

Some of the responses you get will be "no thanks" and the other person has not even included the nature of the original offer so you have no way of knowing what trade they are rejecting. Personally, I think these are ruder than no response at all.

Eventually you will get some people who are interested in the offer you have proposed. When I send an acceptance I always add the phrase, "if you are still interested." Sometimes they offered the same pin to several people (PinPics does that automatically) so they've already finalized a trade before they get my response.

Then, when I've said yes and they've said yes, we exchange addresses. It seems like a lot of trouble, but when those LBEs (little brown envelopes) start appearing in your mailbox, it's worth it.

Happy Trading,
Cynthia

Thanks, everyone! How long should I wait for a response from the people I requested a trade from?

My personal guideline is if a response does not arrive within 48 hours I'm free to offer the pin to someone else. Frequently, however, I do so many on different days that I have no way of remembering what I'm waiting on. But since I could have unknowingly sent out multiple offers with the same pin at the same time, even if I got a response the same day a trade may have already been concluded. I've only had to say no to a pin offer made in good faith once, when I was offering the latest hot pin from the parks after a trip. I've gotten replies that say thanks but I just made that trade many times.

Bottom line, wait only as long as you're comfortable waiting.

Cynthia

Thanks, jojo_ct! :)

HI Debi!
First of all....the first rule of pin collecting.......THERE ARE NO STUPID OR DUMB questions!!!!!!!!!! :p

If it makes you feel any better, after being in this hobby for 2 yrs I actually had to ask what an LBE (Little Brown Envelope pins usually arrive in) was!!!!!!

Yes, I agree with Jo.....I usually give a few days then feel safe in having it up for trade again.

If someone says "YES" to my trade but then doesn't respond back with their address, I will send a 'still interested?" email.......I did this and here the guy HAD sent his address but I never got the email!!! So it was good that I followed up and we made a great trade!
