A Stringbean, a Wingnut, and a plan! (A January '12 PTR) TRIP REPORT STARTED!! 1/16!!

Well, I love Soarin and TT, so it's a toss up between them. If TT just sped around that track the WHOLE TIME, that would be my favorite! ;)

DHS would have to be Toy Story, but Muppets comes in a close 2nd!

EE is absolutely my favorite AK attraction, in fact, without EE, I might not even want to go to AK! I know, blasphemy!

Favorite Attractions:

Epcot- Test Track
Assuming the rumors are true, I am SO EXCITED that the refurb doesn't start until after we leave!

Hollywood Studios- Tower of Terror
The last time I went to Disney I rode this no less than 10 times. It's my favorite ride in Disney World, period.

Animal Kingdom- Expedition Everest
My favorite Disney roller coaster--a fabulous, speedy coaster with awesome theming.

Hmmm... I think I may be slightly addicted to thrill rides. :lmao:

Favorite Attractions: The Non-Thrill Ride Edition

Epcot- Soarin'
A ride that feels like flying? Yes, please.

Hollywood Studios- Muppet Vision 3-D
I LOVE the Muppets. Not everyone has a Swedish chef sitting on the back of their stove. :thumbsup2

Animal Kingdom- It's Tough to Be a Bug!
I know everyone picks the Safari (which is great!), but I love those darn bugs.

(Yes, I do like many non-thrill rides. Really.) ;)

Favorite Attraction in Future World: Soarin' That ride never gets old for me. How can you not love smelling the orange groves in CA?! :goodvibes

Favorite Hollywood Studios Attraction: I love TSM. I cannot stop giggling about 1/2 way through and then I can't shoot fast enough. That's my excuse why DH always beats me ;)

Favorite Animal Kingdom Area: Asia. The theming here is just unbelievable.

Favorite Animal Kingdom Attraction: Expedition Everest. "It's Yeti time!"
I do agree with you though, they can drop the poacher act now on the safari.

And I do love me some Muppets but not as much as you. :goodvibes

I thought I missed responding yesterday. Sorry - hate to be late.

What photo hosting site are you using today because I can see all your pics? (at work)

Favorite Future World Attraction is a tie, Soarin and Spaceship Earth. Soarin because it's freaking awesome and Spaceship Earth because I love it and never have to wait to ride it......I just copied what Leslie wrote. thanks LL!

Favorite Hollywood Studios attraction is going to be Star Tours. I just know it. If not its either TOT or RnR. They both frighten me a bit, but I still think they are both great!

Favorite Animal Kingdom area would be...hmmm. Probably Asia......definitely Asia....thanks again LL.

Favorite AK attraction would be the safari without a doubt. Again - I agree with this. I think safari is the best themed attraction in all of Disney world, although I have to admit I really like EE and I don't want to be too optimistic, but I think I may finally ride it in the dark in December! :woohoo:

Okay let's see...

Favorite Future World Attraction is a tie, Soarin and Spaceship Earth. Soarin because it's freaking awesome and Spaceship Earth because I love it and never have to wait to ride it.

Favorite Hollywood Studios attraction is Great Movie Ride. I love it, I love the scenes and I love the movie clips at the end.

Favorite Animal Kingdom area would be...hmmm. Probably Asia.

Favorite AK attraction would be the safari without a doubt.

I love Soarin and Spaceship Earth too. I think the problem with choosing a favorite for me in Epcot is that I love them all .

I LOVE THAT MOVIE SEQUENCE AT THE END OF THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE SO MUCH. Seriously, I watch this video all the time - it makes me so happy.

LOL, that's a weird answer for your fav Future World attraction! :rotfl: Mine is definitely Soarin! :thumbsup2 It is too short, though, and I wish they would have it be Soarin over the US instead of just California, just so it's different from the Disneyland version!

I absolutely LOVE MuppetVision 3D, but my favorite DHS attraction is Tower of Terror. No question. The Muppets are awesome, though! :thumbsup2

LOL, Animal Kingdom is confusing, I hated it when I first went there, but the more time I spend there, the more I like it! I really, really love the Asia section, it's done really well, especially near Everest, it's so beautiful! I wish I could go there at night sometime, but it always closes at 5! :confused3

My favorite AK attraction is Everest, it's such a fun ride! :thumbsup2 The safari is awesome, too!

Hahahahaha I don't think it's a weird answer! :rotfl: Why wouldn't people want to go on a ride about hydroponic gardening???

I agree, I wish that Soarin' soared over more locations. That would be fun if the ride went over the US - or even all of the countries in the World Showcase! (That would HAVE to make it longer, right???)

I can't do TOT - I'm too big a chicken (I did ride it once though!). I really should give AK another chance, and try to get less lost (or at least appreciate the decor more while being lost!). I'm WAY too big a chicken to try EE...lame, I know!

Oh, man, do I love Living with the Land! I have to say, though, that they need the "Listen to the Land" song:sad2:.

And Muppets? I love them. My kids are OBSESSED with them. So, yes, that's one of our favorite attractions. Can't wait for the movie. We might even take Brynn to the theater for her first full-length film experience:scared1:.

I'm going with EE for my favorite AK attraction. Meh. Hard to choose.

Yay another Living with the Land fan!! The Listen to the Land song is cute, they really should use that!

The Muppets sounds like it would be a fun first theater experience! :thumbsup2 I'm so excited for it to come out!

Hahaha I know what you mean about TT - kind of like the backstory on the Safari...can't we just get to the fun part and speed around and look at giraffes?

I STILL haven't been on TSM! The line has always been too long! I'm absolutely determined for us to ride it this time around!

First off, I love your picture and tag - my favorite part of the greatest pre-show in Disney!

I'm too much of a thrill-ride chicken to try TOT a second time or go on EE. Or It's Tough to be a Bug (yes, I know, that's under your wimpy-ride list ;))...those bugs creep me out!!

Favorite Attraction in Future World: Soarin' That ride never gets old for me. How can you not love smelling the orange groves in CA?! :goodvibes

I do love Soarin', it's such a fun and relaxing ride (at least, for those 4 minutes!).

I'm terrible at those shooting games. I never ever get close to a respectable score on Buzz - but that doesn't stop me from talking a big game in the line! :rotfl:

I thought I missed responding yesterday. Sorry - hate to be late.

Aww you're not late - I'll still be here on this PTR for a few months!

I use Flickr - I'm glad you're able to see the pics on other computers ;)

What??? Not Living with the Land? Alright. Fine. Soarin' and Spaceship Earth are fun too. :upsidedow

I can't wait to see the new Star Tours - everything I've heard about it sounds really fun!

I do think the Safari is a fantastically themed ride - I love looking at the animals and the different areas.

Wingnut loved that grilled ham! He's always looking for it on breakfast menus - I'm more of a bacon with breakfast girl, but that gets so annoying in Disney with that thin paper bacon!

Both Wingnut and I had always wanted to stay at the Poly, it is sort of our "someday, dream resort". And with the fantastic discounts when we're going, we just decided to go for it, and take advantage of the offers! We usually stay around the Epcot resort area, so this is something pretty different for us, but we're both excited to try it!

That's so great! I admit, I haven't paid attention to the discounts since free dining for my trip came out, so that's awesome that it worked out so well.

Favorite Attraction in Future World: Spaceship Earth, but the old version. I don't really like the video screens at the end (we went on the new SSE after going on the "improved" Mexico ride and thus may be biased against video screens).

Favorite Hollywood Studios Attraction: MuppetsMuppetsMuppetsMuppets! I love the Muppets so much (and they're still so good! I love all the parodies that Sesame Street puts out. Way better than the majority of the stuff they parody. It would be so cool to go on Sesame Street. Plus the Muppets Christmas Carol is the best thing to happen to Charles Dickens ever).

Favorite Animal Kingdom Area: DinoLand? I haven't been to DAK in ages. And I really like dinosaurs and carnivals. The imaginary Beastly Kingdom (I still want my Fantasia ride, Disney!!)?

Favorite Animal Kingdom Attraction: Dinosaur (aka the only thing I've been on in Animal Kingdom besides It's Tough to Be a Bug (the worst ever). Apparently four teenage girls on a chaperone-less vacation do not appreciate the slow pace of DAK).

Bonus Least Favorite Animal Kingdom Area: Avatar Land. :rolleyes1

Man, I was sick for a bit ans missed so much! Staying at the Poly is so cool, I bet it makes the wait even harder!

As for the favorites:

Future World - ummmm... Living Seas AKA Nemo. I like the clamshells, for I am six.:cutie:

HS - Muppetvision! Wakka-Wakka!

AK Area - Toughie, but I like the area in front of Kali River Rapids, its really pretty and misty.

AK ride - Kali was fun, but I got soaked. And I was the only person on my raft to get soaked, so I got made fun of a lot. But the one I loved was EE, really fun and fast, but not scary.

It's worth it to keep an eye out to see if any other discounts are released, sometimes they'll be even better than a discount you originally used!

I agree, I miss the old version of Spaceship Earth. It just always feels like they put the screens in to get away with not decorating the entire end of the ride .

Yay for another Muppets fan!!! New movie is coming soo soon!

I'll give Avatar Land a chance...it's definitely an interesting choice, but I'm sure that if someone is going to do it well, it would be Disney!

Hahaha I like the clamshells, but I pretty much ALWAYS trip getting into them! No idea why, that's the only ride I have loading issues on .

That happened to me too on Kali - it's funny how like 2 people will get soaked and everyone else stays dry!

Hey Sara:goodvibes

Catching up here. Epcot. Let's see, my favorite FW attraction would be either Test Track, Soarin' or Spaceship Earth or Living with the Land. Test Track is just so fun! Soarin' is truly and exhilerating experience, Spaceship Earth makes me feel smart like I'm in history class and I love that musty smell and finally Living with the Land relaxes me and makes me want to have a garden of the future! There, I think I explained my choices rather nicely.

My favorite HS attraction is ToT, hands down. The theming is spectacular! I love it all. Plus plunging thirteen stories is pretty cool too.

I do love the Muppets! I grew up watching them and "The Muppets Take Manhattan" was one of my favorite movies as a child. My whole family is looking forward to the new movie coming out too!

My favorite AK attraction has to be EE. Again, the theming is stunning! Obviously I'm a sucker for a well themed ride! The first time we all rode together as a family with my girls, I was weaving this story of the Yeti and when we got to area where the tent is all ripped up, they were like "OMG Mom, look!" So fun. Awesome ride, I scream like a five year old girl everytime. Didn't you and Wingnut have a poor AK experience last trip?? I seem to recall you mentioning it was confusing or hilly?

Oh, forgot to mention this site for fantastic aerial maps of WDW and the resorts. It shows the layout and walkway at the Poly for the TTC route.

First off, I love your picture and tag - my favorite part of the greatest pre-show in Disney!

Thank you!

I totally agree regarding the pre-show--I love the pre-show as much as I love the actual attraction. Unlike other attractions where I'm anxious to get through the darn line, I'm usually pretty excited to have "just missed" getting into the Muppet's show. More pre-show action for me! :thumbsup2

I really, truly thought that I had replied, at least about your resort change...but I guess not. :rotfl: YAY for the POLY!!!!:banana: Is it possible that your change somehow subliminally influenced my own resort change? :lmao: Seriously, though, how can you look at all of those amazing pictures and not want to stay there? We ate at 'Ohana last year, but between my then three year old son and my mom (who gets very anxious when my son isn't perfect, thus making me anxious), we didn't see as much of the resort as I would have liked. Oh well. We will now! :rotfl: Are you going to make a request for a specific long house? I can't decide. I've found that the Disney resort maps can be very deceiving. They tend to make things look bigger than they really are.

And then there's the food...we had so many ADR's there (OK...two...but still) it was just another reason why it all made sense.

Can't wait to hear more!

I took a picture of the big billboard for the new movie when I was in Holywood Studios last Saturday. We will probably take the girls to see that one and have a pretend Disney day. :goodvibes

We sent Bella a phone picture of her mingos when we were on safari Sunday morning. She was very happy to see that they were doing well, and she is anxious to see them when we go back at Christmas. :santa: (I love having a Christmas trip on the books, because I get to use this guy - :santa: - whenever I want to.)

We went over to the Polynesian Sunday night after the DIS meet at MK. We ate dinner out on the lanai and then went down to the beach. We wanted to see Hallowishes, but it didn't start until 9:30, and that was going to be too late for our little girls. We watched the EWP, and the girls enjoyed playing in the sand. One of the Toy Story movies was playing on the big screen on the beach, but I didn't pay attention to which one. I just know I saw and heard Buzz Lightyear at one point. I love sitting out on the Poly beach. It's a little slice of heaven. :)

My favorite ride smell is from Spaceship Earth, in the Burning of Rome scene! I'm always excitedly smelling in anticipation during the monks scene .

Ahhh I love The Muppets Take Manhattan! "How about this? Ocean Breeze Soap: It's just like taking an ocean cruise, only there's no boat and you don't actually go anywhere." :rotfl:

Yes, our last time in AK was with the wheelchair, and AK was not the most pleasant of experiences...

Thanks!!! I was actually looking at those earlier! It doesn't look TOO difficult to navigate!

Thank you!

I totally agree regarding the pre-show--I love the pre-show as much as I love the actual attraction. Unlike other attractions where I'm anxious to get through the darn line, I'm usually pretty excited to have "just missed" getting into the Muppet's show. More pre-show action for me! :thumbsup2

 If Wingnut and I go into the Muppets and it's past the scene with the guys setting up the sign, we loop back around after the show to watch the pre-show in its entirety. But usually, we end up having pretty good timing and we get to see the whole thing a few times each trip!

Hahahaha i do that all the time! ("I thought I replied to these posts! I swear!")

 It is funny we both changed to the Poly - we're SO excited! I know, I kept looking at the pictures like, ALRIGHT, you got me! We've only eaten at Kona before (breakfast and lunch). I was using our other ADR's around Bay Lake as justification why the move totally made sense too!

I haven't decided yet about requesting a specific longhouse. Are you going to? I know which one I would request (probably Tokelau, for its location), but I'm not sure if I want to just leave it up to chance and see what we get! I keep reading that the resort isn't as big as people keep making it sound, but I still don't want to be TOO far from the TTC, since we love Epcot!

I hope you post pics of the giant billboard - I'd love to see that! The movie would make an awesome Disney day!

Hahahaha I'd be using the little Santa hat guy too for a Christmas trip! Have you guys gone during the holidays before? I'm sure the girls are going to love all of the decorations!

I can't wait to sit on the Poly beach and watch the fireworks and the EWP! We're getting so excited! :yay:

I seriously cannot stop looking at pictures. :lmao: I did request first floor, because I want a patio, beyond that...I think I'd rather be close to the GCH. We were super close to the elevators and the BC Marketplace in July and I loved actually being able to get my money's worth out of my mug. I love Coke Zero...its an addiction, really. :sad2: And when I get soda from an actual fountain, I'm a very happy girl.

I have found that the Disney resort maps make things look scary big and spread out when they really aren't, so I don't think I'll mind a short walk to the TTC.

So far we don't have any requests - we may just go with the whims of the reservations department! It's funny, Wingnut and I both got our mugs on our last trip, and we literally never used them at Disney! They stayed in our suitcases as souvenirs. But I now use mine every day for water at work .

I agree - I was reading reports of walking around the Polynesian, and it seems to be a less than 10 minute stroll from one end to the other. That's pretty doable! :thumbsup2

I'll go ahead and do it for you now.

Yes, we have been for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year, so we are very familiar with the huge crowds. The decorations, music, parades, characters in holiday outfits, trees in all the resorts - all of those things are awesome!

Thanks!!!! I can't wait for it to come out - all of the previews look really good! :yay:

The holidays at Disney truly are awesome - I love all of the special decorations and other fun stuff!

So since our big switch to the Poly, things have been pretty quiet here on the Disney front. No ADR or reservation changes as of late. Just Wingnut and I sitting around looking at menus as usual and checking out pictures of the Polynesian.

The most recent deliberation that came with our resort change was whether or not to request a specific longhouse at the Poly. We booked a garden view room, so I sort of have an idea of what longhouses that encompasses, but I was thinking that location would be important-ish to us, since we do love Epcot and would probably be walking to the TTC at times.

Wingnut is voting to leave it up to Disney, let's see what we get. I'm thinking that would be a good plan too. I had been thinking about requesting Tokelau, since it's in the middle of both the TTC and GCH, but I'm sort of thinking that we've never been to the Poly before, why not just experience what room location we are given?

So my question is, is there a really good reason to request a specific longhouse? Is the Polynesian THAT big? I was reading that walking from one end to the other is slightly less than 10 minutes, which doesn't sound too terrible, if we were to be placed on the farther end of the resort from the TTC.

Other burning question relating to our trip: where the heck are the $2 ponchos we bought from Staples a few months ago? So much for awesome planning.

That said, how about a few more questions?

Day 15: Your Favorite WDW Resort

This isn't an easy one for me to answer, just because I feel like I don't have a fair enough basis of the resorts to really judge. On-site, I've stayed at CBR, the Swan, and the Yacht Club. Of those three, my vote would totally go to the Yacht Club.

Resorts I haven't stayed at yet but totally want to and could potentially be a favorite: Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Boardwalk.

Day 16: Your Favorite Snack to Grab in the Parks

This one is much easier!

nom nom nom...

(I wonder how many times I can post pictures of these Napoleons on my reports before people start getting sick of them?)

(I'm not yet!)

(Also, more than halfway done with the challenge! I think that calls for another banana!)

Pretty much the same here! :rolleyes1 I've been sick all weekend and I think I spent most of it looking at pictures of the Poly. I swear, if its even half as pretty...:goodvibes

Curious what response you get to this...still not sure what we're going to do, but I'm thinking about asking for something close to the GCH and in between there and the TTC.

As for my favorite resort...I, too, feel ill-equipped to answer this question. We loved our two stays at Coronado...and then we went to the Beach Club and fell in love! :cloud9: I can only imagine how amazing the Poly will be, especially being on the monorail with a four year old. :thumbsup2

Favorite snack..hmm...caramel corn at Karamel Kuche or jalapeno pretzels at AK and those napoleons are pretty darn good, too! :rotfl:
