A Strange Thing happened on the Way to Margaritaville...

I called to make PS on 11/7 for Margaritaville. The cheerful voice on the other end took my information, then asked me for a home phone number "In case we have been been bought out before then".

I've heard rumblings on the Dis Boards of an ownership change at Universal. So far, it has been just discussion. I asked if there was a change in the works. She either didn't know, or couldn't say. She only said there has been talk, but didn't know anything for certain. Sounded to me like something new could be imminent. If and when, I hope it will be a smooth transition.

This can be taken several ways:

1.) Margritaville is bought out by another owner.
2.) Some rich person buys out Margritaville for a private party.

It doesn't necessarily mean Universal will be bought out. Remember, not everything on Universal property is owned by Universal. The onsite hotels, for example, are owned by Loew's.

You are right, Webray. Jimmy Buffet owns Margaritaville. That's why the question really threw me. I do not understand why he would want to sell such a profitable place. º<º This gives me the impression the person taking my PS request was more ^ likely referring to possible new ownership for Universal and City Walk.

Most people are aware that Universal Orlando is owned by a multiplicity of companies. Universal itself (Studios, Themeparks, TV, etc) is owned by a company called Vivendi. This company was originally part of the bread/pastry industry and attempted to diversify by adding several different companies to it's portfolio, one of which is Universal Studios. In the last shift of management at Vivendi, it was decided that the company would divest itself of several of it's other companies. Universal Studios and it's subsidiaries is one of these. Does this mean that Universal Orlando will close? Not in the least, if you follow through with the forums here, you will find another company mentioned call The Rank Group. They used to own Universal Studios before Vivendi purchased it from them. There is no doubt that other companies have interest in the properties and that the only transition will be on paper. No one noticed last year when the company changed hands from the Rank Group to Vivendi.
