A strange man just walked into my house!

I was just sitting at the computer DISing, and the dog (2 yr old German Shepherd) charges down the hallway onto the porch, barking ferociously like I've never heard him before. And I see a strange man on my porch! The dog was flipping out, the guy is trying to get away from him, and I screamed at him, "who ARE you?!?!?!" And he starts to come into the kitchen to get away from the dog, saying "ma'am, I'm in the wrong house", but I screamed at him, "JUST GET OUT!!" And he left. The guy was shaking, I'm shaking (can barely type).

OK...this is about 15 minutes later. My next door neighbor (a 70 yr old woman) came by...the guy was a friend of theirs! I can't tell you how many times over the years THEIR friends (and they've got lots...always throwing parties) have stopped by thinking this was their house...but this is the first time anyone ever came in!! I had a feeling he was a friend of theirs...he was carrying a pie. :teeth: The neighbor said the guy is so embarrassed...I'm just glad he (and I!) didn't have a heart attack!

Whew! I feel better. :rolleyes:

Just talked to DH...we are both relieved Simon didn't bit this guy.

OMG!!!

{{{HUGS}}}

I would have totally flipped out. So glad that he was not an attacker or anything like that and that all turned out well.

:bounce::wave::bounce:

Clarification...the "porch" is actually an enclosed breezeway, with regular doors, windows...part of the house, not like an "outside" porch.

What kind of pie was it?;)
(sorry, I couldn't resist):) :) :)

I'm glad it all worked out. I bet you will be taking some alternate precautions so it doesn't happen again.

Happy New Year

Oh my goodness!!! Yikes! I would have been shaking as well! And I'm guessing that your doors are all locked now? ;)

Hope you have a great New Years, with no more surprises like that. :)

How did he get in? was your door unlock? I am so paranoid my doors are lock even during the day. How scary.

You're not paranoid - that's life in the big city!

I'm always complaining about the dog and how hard it is to have guests over because he's so protective. :rolleyes: But he gets a big treat today!

My heart is almost back to normal. Not sure about the guy tho (he was a bit older than me).

DD told me she had run into the kitchen (I didn't even know!) and thought the guy was attacking me, so she ran to call the police but the cordless phone wasn't on the base. :rolleyes: (Lesson learned!!)

When the neighbor came over, she said that when the friend made it to their house and told them what happened, the neighbor's husband calmly told him, "have a seat...the police should be here soon." LOL

Yes, I will now keep the doors locked (usually I do!!) all the time. The kitchen door leading to the "porch" has a lock, so either the kitchen door is closed and locked if the porch doors are unlocked, or the porch doors are locked if the kitchen door is open. (We live on a somewhat country road...no excuse tho.) We seemed to have had a lapse in security. I guess it's a good thing it was under these circumstances...a "safe" wakeup call!

I'm sorry you had such a fright...but you did give me a chuckle too because I know just what a breezeway is!!!!! :D

JohnTBap - so true and the fact that my father was a homicide detective in Houston didn't help!

Are y'all's houses painted the same color?
ROTFLMAO!! I visited a friend in Texas once, and asked her how she knew which house was hers...all the houses in the neighborhood, street after street, were almost identical.

But we've wondered ourselves how this mistake happens so frequently where we live...it's not like a housing development...it's a very old street, with houses ranging from 200+ years old to under-construction. Their house is yellow, ours is white with blue shutters...both ranches, but different. We've often thought of putting a sign up saying "NOT the Smith's house". The wife just told me they're selling in the Spring...hate to see them go...but we'll probably still be directing their friends to their NEW house.
:rolleyes:

Whew! I'm so glad it was a neighbor's friend! My dh's cousin just had someone try to get into their house (with TWO dogs barking like crazy and the guy was still trying to open the locked door!) You just never know who is going to come along. Lock those doors!!:eek:

mare, how frightening!

I have to wonder if you would have been legally responsible if the dog did bite....he was a stranger who came uninvited into your home. I'm glad the dog didnt bite under the circumstances but in another circumstance it would have been desirable.
