A spot in DL for some down time?

You are allowed to bring in premade sandwiches. You can also bring in a small soft sided cooler. Just not the hard ones or the ones with wheels. You can also bring in drinks and snacks. Hungry Bear is a counter service restaurant. They only have bus boy types.

We bring in our own lunches all the time. I have even eaten our sack lunches in the Golden Horseshoe while watching the Billies and have seen others doing the exact same thing.

Oh good! I'm glad I gave a good suggestion. I now have to admit to all of you that I've never been to the Hungry Bear Restaurant! It's on my list of things to do though since i keep hearing it's a nice spot to relax. I think the lack of interesting food is what has kept me away but we need to check it out even if we don't get any food. Okay, confession time is over.

It isn't really worth bothering with to eat there. Remember about 10 or 15 years ago the food in the parks was all the same blah hamburgers? Well, that's what you get there. Not horrible, just expensive for being blah. It would be a great place to bring food from somewhere else but it is rather out of the way. HB was the only uncrowded place we could find on the evening of Jan. 2 when the park was just crazy packed wall to wall people.

We never bring lunches in the park because we always have our favorite places we want to eat at but we always bring snacks.

ANOTHER vote for Hungry Bear. It was the first place I thought of when I read the question. We used to go there for lunch when the kids were little (like 15-20 years ago) and get the kid's meals which were pretty much the same at all the counter service places. I like to take a break anywhere around the Rivers - it is my favorite place in DL.

I like to take the Grand Circle Tour on the DDRR for a little downtime. There is room to stretch out, you get a little breeze blowing and the rocking motion tends to lull little boys to get at least drowsy if not sleep for a bit. And I have so much to watch that I don't get bored either, just people watch as the park passes by.

That didn't work for us. It was crowded so we were squished up in the top row back corner. And it was hot back there. At main street we were finally able to get a front row seat but the next train down the tracks from us was stuck, so we had to get off after about 15 min of sitting there and waiting. We never did get all the way around the park.

the restrooms are very nice too....on my top 5 list of best DLR pottys.


My personal favorite is the animation building at DCA. I do wish they had a lot more seating.

How far away are you staying? With kids that age, I would be tempted to go back to the hotel for a nap or swim for downtime, rather than at the parks........

Oooooh......good to know. I'll have to keep that in mind.

I also wish the animation building had more seating. I spent a lot of time in there with DS when it was SO hot (over 100 degrees) last august and it was crowded in there. I was able to find a seat but then my space got smaller and smaller as more people came in and crowded around me. Sort of weird to sit that close to strangers on a "sofa".
